Default Updating Issue

Hello everyone!
I have been using an Iphone 3GS (unlocked and jailbroken) for quite some time now. However a friend of my just gave me his Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. Now, it is still on the android version 2.1 and I want to update it via Kies Mini.

The drivers installed.
Kies Mini recognizes the phone.
It downloads the Update.

Then, once it starts installing. Windows tells me I require a driver known as "gadget serial" driver. I have been trying to find it with no luck. Few minutes later Kies mini tells me that the phone could not be updated and tells me I can do an ER restore. Tried that, i mean what the heck do I have to lose. It frezzes during the process. So, reboot phone. Still one 2.1. Sad face!

Reasons I need 2.2.
I know it has an easier way of turning of the 3G network and everything. Been using the Iphone without a data plan and want to do the same with the vibrant. I got to the point it does not use it with 2.1, but want more control.

Thanks for any help!

Uninstall Kies Mini, reboot, download and install Kies (not the mini version), reboot, replug phone, redo update.
