Default Samsung Continium - Newer features???

OK. This thing looks pretty nice, but essentially its the same phone with a snazzy swipe screen on the bottom.

Regardless, please have a look at the top left hand corner of this picture - the Gmail Icon with the 17 on it.

1. Does any of yours look like this on your Fascinate? Mine is a grey M.
2. There is a new Location icon from what I have.

Might this be an indicator that 2.2 is coming soon? - Could this be a preview of a new feature of TouchWiz next generation?

A chick pea is neither a chick, nor a pea. Discuss.

SAPS - I just looked at all the Galaxy S devices screenshots - and none of them have these 2 icons. I really am hoping that this is next gen stuff here...

This device almost looks launch ready as it has the Qualcomm , if VZW launches this with 2.2, it wont be far behind for us - officially or through alternative sources. The only thing is I dont see any TouchWiz widgets on the screen - even though the TW launch bar is below.

Freakin' Bing. The only good Bing was Chandler Bing. Why cant MS keep their scummy mits off my Droid.

We can hope, I guess.

Well MS is just being MS as usual, trying to monopolize everything. Its as much VZW for accepting the $$ to integrate Bing. But then what else is new

I like the idea of the second little screen, but it seems the main screen
is smaller then that of the FN. Over on boy genius, they have some
pictures of this next to the Droid 1, and it looks like it has the same
size main screen. I could be wrong, but it doesn't look like it's 4In.

Agreed. In fact it looks like the screen is a total of 4" if you count that bottom part. Its as if they merely layed a strip down to separate the two screens. Obviously they didnt. Clearly its 2 screens. Top screen looks like a 3.2" or maybe 3.5". Definitely smaller than the D1's 3.7"

Yup. At this point I will not do anything under 3.7in, after owning an Eris
at one point, it was just to small. Even my Ipod touch at 3.5in feels way
to small anymore.

Seems to be all touch. There was no mention of a qwerty.

yes, it is a 3.7"

But, heres the kicker. The 3.7" also is broken into 2 parts (with the mini screen).

So in essence, not quite a 3.7"

No longer interested in this one. Is the camera also 5MP?

Thats encouraging. The camera is quite good on the SF. So this baby has the same hummingbird we got. Is the gpu the same too? BGR didnt have a lot of specs. If it does thats a lot of power for an even smaller screen i.e. higher frame rate for games

Im not 100% certain, but i believe it has the 1ghz hummingbird. But i know the ram is 256mb. Im sure the internal memory isnt as high either.

This phone is targeted for "lower end users". So, they may have some tweaks on it that make it "cheaper".

I know it'll be marketed heavy for social networking.

BGR seems to think it has the same ram as SF . Although 256 makes more sense if they want to lower it down the hierarchy food chain. Then again they did put the hummingbird in there. And if they put the powervr540 in there thats not at all low end

Very true. All i can confirm is it will be targeted for the lower end user.
Example: LG Ally.

But, hey. If the "lower" end has great specs......great things are in the future!

Samsung Continuum (SCH-i400) - This is the dual-screen Galaxy S phone that first popped up this week. Engadget’s tipster claims it features a 1 GHz processor known as “Garnett” which might be a refresh of Samsung’s Hummingbird processor.
So its a 1Ghz but maybe not the full bird hummingbird we got

i also think it is shaping up to be like the LG Ally of the next round of phones, sort of like the LG enV Touch 2...the enV Touch was top of the line when i got it....or pretty close anyways....then along came Android phones....the LG Ally was the budget Android device....now the LG enV Touch 2 and the Samsung Continuum will be the new low end devices coming standard with 1Ghz CPU's but smaller screens and less memory, etc....

Continuum is to Fascinate as Pixi is to Pre

It has got to be hell to type on that screen especially landscape since the main screen is offset quite a bit. After seeing it next to the Fascinate I am glad it was not released first. How many of yall would have been pissed if you bought this and then the fascinate came out with its sexy 4 incher?

Agreed. Of course until today I knew nothing about this Continuum until today. I knew about the Fascinate months before it hit. Not a lot of Marketing behind this SC

Here's what I don't get about the Continuum. All of the blogs are talking about how the little mini-screen will save battery life by displaying info without having to turn on the main screen. It's kind of a cool idea -- supposedly the mini-screen turns on automatically whenever the phone is being handled.

Thing is, with a Super AMOLED display, couldn't you just display a little banner at the bottom of the regular screen and accomplish exactly the same thing? Black pixels are off and draw no power. So theoretically someone could write an app that gives the Fascinate the same functionality and the same battery advantages. I see no reason why there needs to be a second, separate display.
