Default hdmi cable out

I have a regular hdmi-hdmi cable for av stuff, and i have mini hdmi -hdmi for laptop to av, what type of cable for charge. There wasn't one in the box, not assuming there would be, but need to get something mail order. Want to make sure what I am getting is correct as the shipping is more than the cables.

You want micro HDMI. Check out monoprice.com. They offer USPS shipping so it's extremely reasonable (less than the $3 cable). You can get a 3ft micro HDMI to regular HDMI for about $5 shipped.

Has anyone picked up or tried a micro HDMI cable with their Droid Charge? I was thinking of picking one up from Monoprice, but looking at the clearance with the little cover rotated away, plus the recess in the side of the device, I'm worried that some of these connectors won't work quite right. From looking at the pictures, the plastic casing on the micro-hdmi side of the cable tends to be quite a bit larger than the metal connector. Our phone looks like it needs something with a slim casing. Anyone have any feedback on this?

I have a Droid Charge and my wife have the LG revolution. Both phones appear to come with micro HDMI output. Do you think both phone will work with the same micro HDMI-regular HDMI cable to connect to TV?

I have been using the 10 foot micro HDMI from Monoprice for a couple of weeks. I spent $8 including shipping so I could so I could be farther away from the TV and operate the DC. Monoprice is the only place to buy any cable. Best quality and best price.

I've used a micro HDMI cable with the Charge and have had no issues at all. Videos captured using the built-in videocamera are actually pretty decent on my plasma. Nothing like a high-end camcorder, but for a cellphone not bad at all.

Default Sound not working via HDMI on Droid Charge

I am not getting any sound. Picture looks great. Did you have to change any settings to get sound? Other HDMI inputs carry sound so I assume it is something on my DC that is not set right.

No Sound out when I use my newly purchased HDMI cable, apparently my Sony TV doesn't support Sound? Why can't I specify where the sound comes from, the HDMI, Charge Speakers, head Phones, Bluetooth?

I finally got the micro-hdmi cable from Amazon for $7-8, worked great sound quality of 720p video and the beautiful video quality into my LG TV. It was better than my Sony HandiCam HD and my Flip HD, hands down this is a very good Droid. Not only does it take quality photo's, it is an awesome video camera to boot. Very happy...

I should update that I got a cable from monoprice and it works great. Have you ruled out your cable as the problem?

On a side note, I noticed that the TV I connected to reports the input signal as 1080i. Interesting as I don't recall ever seeing that info published in the specs. I suppose I could encode 1080i/p content and get full quality out.

Did you push the volume up button on your Charge, to make sure media volume was turned up ?

Yes volume is up, it will actually work with a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the hdmi input that has a 3.5 input so I can use that as a workaround but the point of hdmi is a single cable. TV is capable so I may need to break down and buy another hdmi to see if I just got a bad cable.

I ordered a cable from ebay and works fine. I was disappointed to find out that you can't watch media hub movies with it though as it shuts down hdmi out.

I connected it to the HDMI port in the TV in our camper this weekend, and I got audio, but no video. That (cheap) TV would not recognize the 720p video and was stuck in 1080i, with no menu that would allow me to change it. I guess I need to try the Sony again.

I'm having the same issue. I just got my DC last week and got the HDMI cable last night. I was testing out the connection using the HBOGO app, I am able to get video to my TV just fine but I cant get an audio signal. Here's what I tried:

  1. I tried all three HDMI inputs on my TV (Bravia) and the picture is fine on each, but I can't get audio. The HDMI cable I bought was from Amazon (seller was Gizmodo) and the description said the HDMI cable was compatible with the Charge. It was actually in a Charge bundle that included other accessories. I can try another HDMI cable but given that the video works I doubt that's the issue.
  2. I also made certain that the phone's volume and media settings were turned up as high as possible, ditto for the TV.
  3. I can't get sound for anything through the TV - I tried the music player, no go. I opened up a game and can't hear the background music. And I can't hear any phone sounds through the TV either.
  4. A Verizon rep suggested that there is some content that is restricted and can't be played through HDMI. But I get no errors or messages to the effect, and I get the video, so obviously that's not the issue either.
  5. I then took a video. I can play it back on the phone with sound. I can play it on the TV, with video, but no sound.

Any thoughts on what's going on with the sound would be greatly appreciated.

On another note, I also tried to use an audio cable that connects the phone's headphone jack with the TV's audio in port. That did not work either. But I saw in another thread here that the Android OS does not support splitting the HDMI output between video and audio - so you can't channel video content to the TV and the audio to your stereo. Looks like someone logged a bug on the Android OS board.

Would love to hear any thoughts.

Update an hour later: So I never thought to try this with another HD TV. I have some off-brand cheapo TV that I never use (not even hooked up to cable). Vizio I think. The HDMI output - video and audio - works just fine with that tv. So perhaps this is all because Sony and Samsung don't play well together.

Hi all. Google sent me here as I try to troubleshoot. I have a Charge and I ordered this HDMI cord: Amazon.com: HDMI to Micro HDMI Cable, High Speed with Ethernet, 6 ft , For HTC EVO 4G: Electronics

I've tried plugging it into a Dell PC monitor and a Dynex TV, and neither recognize a signal. Is it safe to assume that the cord does not work and is the problem (no sound or picture)?

In other words, when you plug the HDMI into the Charge and TV, the homescreen should show up on the TV, right? I don't need to change any settings (other than the correct input on the TV) or download any apps?

I just recently purchased this same exact cord and mind works fine when hooking it up to my Vizio TV (no settings changed on phone).

Perhaps try taking the phone and cable somewhere (perhaps Walmart or BB) and see if they'll let you connect it to another TV. It will at least eliminate the TV/Monitor.

"Hi, may I see if my phone's HDMI works on this TV?"

Guess I'll try that on my next shopping excursion. I have a friend with a Samsung TV, so I suppose I could try that as well.

I have the same no sound issue. Video is fine. got the cable at monoprice. (I purchase about 100 cables a month from them for business, never a problem, so assuming cable is good.)

Went to youtube, video comes up fine. plug in headphones, sound is fine. but no sound from tv?!

Initially mine would not go through my surround sound which is connected via digital coax.

I turned on the internal speaker on the TV and then I got sound. Tried the surround again and it worked.

I must have done something to make the change on the phone but unsure what that was.

Additionally I was able to split sound and video via Hdmi and headphone jack. That worked from the begining when my video was workind and sound wasn't but it defeats the purpose of HDMI.

This past week, I plugged mine into a TV (forgot the brand) in a hotel and Video and Audio Worked great. I guess it's TV dependent.

Tried the HDMI cable to a Samsung TV and it did not work, so I decided it was not worth my time to try and check it on TVs at a store. I emailed the company and told them the cable does not work, and asked if they could send another.

I might have to take my phone into a store to get looked at to resolve this issue: My Verizon App Ruining Phone ... so I might see if I can have them check the HDMI port on the phone itself.

It is definately TV specific... We bought 7 droid charge phones in my family and we have 6 TV's that the sound is working on and 2 that are not working... Working are Sharp, Samsung, Panasonic and Magnavox... Not working are JVC and Sony...

Thanks,

Sonja

Default A revelation

After a bit of a runaround with monoprice I finally got my HDMI cable for my Samsung Charge today. Plugged it in, saw the sharp image, loaded up some music and... no audio. Tried all the suggestions here, tried it on a different TV and it worked but at the last minute before I was about to write off the purchase as a waste it hit me: the TV set -- a Panasonic, and I assume many other LCDs -- lets you set the audio input separate from the video. I normally have the audio from my HDMI sources (game consoles and PC) run through separate stereo cables.

So if you're having this problem still and haven't checked your TV's audio settings to check for 'HDMI audio input', give that a try! It worked for me!

Same problem. I have a Sony Bravia and I get a great picture but no sound on the TV with the Samsung Droid Charge. The cable said audio and video - micro HDMI to HDMI.

If anyone figures this out, please share with all of us! Thanks

Hi guys, I need help for a newbie question. I got my LG 3D P920 that is HDMI out capable. I used LCD monitor for my videos but I got no audio on my phone via the 3.5mm audio jack output. I searched the net and found out that HDMI has both the video and audio. My question is, how can output the audio on my phone. Is there any cable or software to separate the video and audio output? Thanks in advance.....

Cool HDMI malfunction

Hi all! The HDMI out was the defining factor in choosing the Charge and on a daily basis, I had been using the HDMI out to my Hitachi plasma TV using a 3' Micro HDMI to HDMI cable connected to a 25' HDMI to HDMI extension cable so I can control and enjoy media content from the comfort of my bed. All screens, games, phone calls, video and audio generated from my phone, both downloaded and streaming content, would be displayed and heard on my TV without a hitch since I bought the phone in July, 2011 up until the first week in December about an hour b4 Samsung's most recent Software Update. Immediately following Update firmware version 2.3.6 and to this day all screens (on phone) are now off-centered to the left 6" on my TV, downloaded video content is displayed off-center and cut-off left 6" with no Audio, same goes for Netflix. Streming video (app used is Jetflix) content is neither displayed or heard, just a blank screen now. There's no doubt in my mind that the most recent update is the cause of our HDMI issues as is evident in my stated experience.
I've sent phone to Samsung once where my complaint about The HDMI wasn't even addressed, instead the touchscreen was replaced and phone returned, WTF? Got it yesterday, I'm sending it back tomorrow gave explicite instructions (again) to Samsung phone tech support to please diagnos/resolve documented HDMI issue. I will post the results. If anyone already has a fix, please post it as well.

Notsure

Have received phone back from Samsung but problem still exists, infact the phone has picked up another issue while at Samsung's repair facility in TX... great! Samsung requested a third attempt to resolve, then a warranty exchange can be issued as I'm sure will be the case. Just not possitive a new phone's HDMI will work properly as mine did for the first 6 months. I'll post results incase anyone's still interested,
