Default GPS doesn't work in Asia

I am right now in SE Asia and this is my third trip to SE Asia with my Samsung Galaxy S2 E4GT. My GPS does not work on this trip or my previous 2 trips. When I run the GPS Status app it always shows no satellites. Even if I let it sit out with an unobstructed view of the sky for 15-20 min, still zero satellites.
Is this how the phone is supposed to work? Is the phone programmed to only have GPS when located in the USA??

Sounds frustrating.

I guess that you might try clearing your ephemeris tables using GPS Status, menu, tools, manage a-gps state, reset, and if you have a network connection, same path again and then download the tables.

That's all that I can think of, sorry.
