Default So I updated to 2.2....

And I love it

A LOT of improvements, usability wise, can move around icons so they aren't alphabetical, move home screens around with ease, added world clock, smart alarm, and soo much more I love love love it!!!!

ONLY one thing I HATE.

And I need help fixing is - my text messages are now bubble mode like the iphone which I absolutely hate I got this phone because it didn't have that bubble mode..and the text size on everything is increased by like 2 or 3 points x-x

but other than that I LOOOVE THE NEW ANDROID 2.2 omg

Currently no "fix" except to try hancent or chompsms from the market.

I will try and hold off from upgrading as long as possible to avoid losing the current messaging app. I love it. I don't want generic ugly bubble chat... .

And Hancent is the original bubble head. Thanks for trying to help me Kelmar--Just couldn't do anything with it.
The only problem I had with my upgrade was the GPS wouldn't work whatsoever so I went back to stock and did an Odin upgrade which has my GPS working perfectly now. YAHOO!!!!! Now all I have to do is figure out how to make voice dialed calls on my bluetooth headset.

I'm sorry, but that is about the strangest thing I've seen in these forums for a long time. I too hate the bubbles, but I sure as hell wouldn't do without the upgrade because of it.

I agree. The great thing about Android is that you're not stuck with ANY of the UI changes. If you don't like the stock UI, change it with an applications. It shouldn't keep you from upgrading.

And Handcent might be the original bubble-head, but they do have the "Android" style that's pretty much the old Android conversation style as well.

I second this. I use handcent myself, much prefer it to the stock messaging app. The one downside is even after turning notifications off on the stock app you will get both hancent AND stock mms app notifications. You need to turn off "auto retreive" incoming on the stock app.

Increased text size for messaging is a good thing, for some. I have a hard time reading text messages at times, and there isn't a way to increase text size on 2.1. So this is a plus. Don't know about the bubble thing though.

They will likely have the same screen once upgraded.

I updated, but I went back to 2.1. The GPS wasn't working, and now it's still not. Also, my accelerometer isn't working much either. Anyone else have these issues? Anyone know of a fix?

Since you haven't described how you updated in the first place, nor how you went back to 2.1 or even which version of 2.1 you went back to, it's impossible to know what happened.

since being on 2.2, i decided not to use advanced task killer. so far, its been pretty flawless, no lag. on 2.1, there was noticeable lag, and killing apps was the only fix.

hi,

so.. 2 questions for the new 2.2 EPICs

1. For those that understand the GPS issue... did the 2.2 fix this issue?

2. has anyone do the speed test? How did it compare to the EVO on 2.2?

Thanks

I updated as well , my battery seems to die extremely fast . With 2.1 my battery can last all day while listening to music and watching movies . With the 2.2 ROM I can only listen to music and by the time I get home I'm around 10 percent .

1. I never had a GPS issue in 2.1
1. a) depends on how you updated. Those using the Update.zip method almost invariably trashed what may have been (at least in my case) a working GPS.
1.b) Using the full .tar in ODIN resulted in a working GPS I don't know about fixing the GPS problem other than after breaking it using the update.zip method.
2. beats the shiz out of me

if you go to the xda wiki section and find the section for the epic it has everything you need and instructions to flash back to stock using odin... sorry your havin problems i run quantum 2.1 a custom dk28 rom if you want to give that a try i think it runs great and my battery life is good on it as well.... i personally dont believe in task killers anyway those apps running dont really hurt anything IMHO

It's a leaked version. IMO, if you aren't willing to root, you shouldn't install it. If you do want to install it, follow the directions in the Questions about DK28 thread.

ok, thnx

I was rooted day one with this phone; should be the first thing done with every phone. This thing is a test phone. Very capable and powerful but half the hardware isnt properly supported. Hoping to fix that with Froyo and tired of waiting.

Ah!

Perhaps your best bet would be to Odin the modem and flash one of the custom ROMs then.

on my Epic 4g with eclair my GPS was working sporadically...with dk28 it did not work, that is until I did a battery pull while the device was on. Now it works all the time..

try the method of wiping, goin back to DI18 with the update.zip, get a lock (don't sync any contacts or anything) after u get a lock a couple times, flash DK28, lock, & after u lock then sync (U don't necessarily hav to lock before sync but why not)...

of course all of this is if u feel like it, if u aren't @ a huge frustration point; in the same breath, that may be more reason to do it

Default Upgraded with minor issues

I upgraded today following the directions HERE

Everything looks cool but now my Android keyboard doesn't put a period when I double space, I don't get suggestions or auto-correct. even though in the setings I have it set to do this. The only suggestions I get are people in my contact list, not normal words.

is it a user dictionary issue, how can I edit this?

I also lost my alarm clock

thinking about going back to 2.1 and wait for the OTA update and then wait another month to update after that... ha

You should have a new Clock in your app drawer.

After upgrade to 2.2 using Odin 1.61 I get significant lag during screen orientation changes (like 1-2 seconds). Its a deal breaker for me. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix?

Edit: Fixed it using instructions found here. Even though the instructions don't specifically list lag as the problem, I believe the problems to be one in the same since it fixed my orientation problems.
