Default Epic 4 g Speaker blown - need help

It seems that my speaker is blown. All sounds come out like the speaker is cracked, very fuzzy and not loud.

Last March there was one thread that said Sprint had this problem with 2.2.1 but I updated mine to 2.2.1 quite awhile ago. You can see this thread on it:
Werid sound distortions after updating to 2.2.1

Is it really blown or is it a weird software issue?

I am not on sprint service contract.

Any experience in opening up the phone to the speaker, I used to work in repair I can handle it?

Where do you get parts, specifically the speaker?
