Is it just my phone? I'm trying to charge it in the car with a 1 amp USB charger (Belkin) and a micro usb cord (SAMSUNG CORD!) and the phone will NOT charge with this charger. All my other devices plugged into it works, iPod, etc... The cable I'm using works fine, so it's DEFINATELY NOT the Samsung micro USB cable...

Must the current be the same as the oem wall charger? I would like to be able to charge the phone in the car but again it will NOT charge with the Belkin 1 amp USB charger....

Or is it charging but does NOT DISPLAY the charging indicator like when using the oem wall charger?

I had the same problem. This is because USB charging is supposedly "standardized" but it's really not. The solution to your problem is probably to buy a charging-only cable. It must NOT have data lines connected. I haven't tried it but this cable may work:

The charge rate is controlled by how the data pins are connected. You can find the details on the web but basically Apple does it one way and other devices do it another way. Most chargers are designed to work with Apple devices. Some non-Apple devices work with them too but this phone doesn't. Our phone expects the data lines to be shorted in order for it to charge at 1A.

What I did was cut a micro USB cable in the middle and then short the 2 data lines that were connected to the phone plug. The 2 data wires going to the charger I made sure weren't connected to anything (so it wouldn't mess up the charger). It worked for me, just be sure you're confident in your soldering skills and you short the correct wires.

Do an image search on "usb pinout" to find out which are the data pins. If I remember correctly they're the middle 2 pins and they're usually the white and green wires.

not sure what the specs are volts/amps (watts are volts x amps), but my wall wart is 4.6v @ .8 amps output making it 3.68 watts. so if a usb charger is truly 3 to 5 volts, you are getting just 3 to 5 watts @ 1 amp, not much difference for the dc-dc converter in a charging circuit.

I have the OEM Samsung CAD300UBE car charger, and it works fine. The specs are 5.0V @ 700ma. You can find these on eBay for under $10. As a previous poster mentioned, these phones will not charge with many generic chargers due to the data pins.

Instead of cutting up data cables. Open your car charger. On the back of the female usb it should have 4 leads. One is positive, the opposite side is negative. The two middle leads are data. Solder those center leads together. It makes the phone realize its a charger and not a computer. And now your charger can be used for anything full power. Even ipods.
