I thought adb pmshell setinstall was only for froyo and not gingerbread. Tried it on my att avail long time ago with 2.3.4. and never got it to work. No serial number with "n" showed up.

I am able to use the ADB tools to set my phones default installation location to 2 (external sd card), however when apps download and start installing, i get an error message saying "error installing, not enough available storage" something like that. Although I have a completely empty 32GB micro sd card in the phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit SGH-599N from MetroPCS. I even rooted it. Any help or is it impossible to do on this phone? I already tried using Link2SD, App2SD, and they didn't work.

When you install apps to SD, it still needs enough space on the internal memory to perform the install and even then it doesn't move all of the app to the SD card. You are going to need to free up some memory before you install any more apps. I'd recommend going to menu>settings>applications and then select all and sort by size. On the largest apps you might have a significant amount of cache being used. You can clear that. Remember to clear only the cache and not the data. If you clear data it will delete any settings you might have already setup.

I didn't know it still needed the free space on the internal memory. So does the app even get installed in the external SD card at all? However, even so I actually already had deleted the data and cache, i have about 400MB of free space when I tried installing apps to the external SD card, and it was Twitter (22 MB). Any other ideas on how to fix the situation?

Are you saying Twitter was taking up 22MB or you were trying to install Twitter and it required 22MB?

You should be able to see exactly how much of the app is on the SD card from the settings>applications list. Certain apps that provide services and have widgets are hard-coded to not install to the SD card. Twitter may be one of them.

I was trying to install Twitter onto my external SD card afte I had used the ADB tools to set default installation to my external SD card. Twitter on the Play store says it needs 22MB in order to be installed. i have 27GB avaialble on my external SD card, and i have 400MB available on my phones internal storage. I did read that some apps don't allow you to move to SD card, but most of my apps appear as able to move to ext. SD card when i check them out using App2SD. However, when I try to move them I can't. And in my Settings, there is no "Move to SD" button. I even tried moving apps that don't have widgets.

Thank you, lunatic !

Impressive ! Are you certain that there is no simple utility to move the internal memory apps to the SD card ? Tried Android File Transfer viewing via my Macintosh, but the apps were not visible.

How silly that MetroPCS sells a phone with limited internal memory (1.4 GB) and which prevents moving apps to an SD card. The more limited the memory the more imperative it is to free up internal memory.

Samsung tech support said apps over 1GB can be moved, but nothing under 1GB. The tech had no idea why there was this limitation. I've tried six utilities to move apps and they simply go back to the system screen which does NOT have SD card relocation as an option.

Without rooting there is not much you will be able to do with the Exhibit's messed up memory management. I tried changing the default app storage location as well, didnt work for everything and moving an app to external memory will break some widgets until the app in question is moved back to phone memory.

Truth is it does not get better for some other Samsung devices, you just get a bit more memory to use.

My wife had the Exhibit T-759 for the last few years and it really was a horrible phone. Only 512mb of memory for the phone to use and limited app memory made it slow and limited to what you could keep on it.

I rooted it for the simple purpose of removing the bloatware that comes on the phone with TitaniumBackup and that made a notable difference in the phone stability.

I also purchased an app called FolderMount - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount

FolderMount actually moves large apps to your sdcard and creates symbolic links to the content in the phone. Everything just simply works the way it should.

My wife and son both have the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze now, they are rooted and FolderMount is once again installed on their phones to manage large game apps.

It was a must have on my sons phone as he wanted to have all three Dead Trigger games and they are like 500mb each, with FolderMount its real easy to move them to the SDcard and they all work flawlessly.

Something to look into if you desire, but as I stated already you will need to root your devices to take advantage of it.

I got that Samsung Galaxy Exhibit that i bought from Metro PCS that have only 1.34GB .... so much space to do what you want... so thinking I was doing something good and be able to have my apps running and finally be able to take some pictures I bought an Micro SD card of 8 GB. Still cant used that sd card since i cannot move my apps. Contact Samsung to ask how to do so. And told me I cannot. Really frustrated right now. I download that FolderMount but no damn clue how to use it. Keep stopping at checking for root. >.< Any help ?
