Default Why is Fascinate Hush Hush? Cause of VZW, Moto or Samsung?

I am really excited for this phone and would love to know more info about it....like if I get the X, will I still be within 30 days for this one? At this point, I would get anything because this LG Voyager is really killing me here

Anyways, what do you guys think? Is Samsung just really tight? Is the product far from ready? Is it VZW that is withholding info due to Moto contract? Or not enough inside Samsung people? Just wondering...

Cause I just can't take it anymore

you may make the 30 day window...just get the x on the 21st or 28th to be safe....dont get it on launch.

no. Samsung should be good to go.htc is the one sweating like tony hayward at trial though, but thats only because htc relies on samsungs s-amoled plants. I would preorder just to be safe, due to many carriers dividing initial shipment.

Simple. if they broadcast it, everyone will cancel their Inc orders and won't order a Droid X. The Fascinate is the leader right now as far as i can tell - of all phones including the iPhone, a.k.a. "I'm better than you cause I got one" Phone.

Its because of VZW and/or Moto, they don't want to steal too much thunder from the X. It's not Samsung. Even still, I am hoping for something to be said soon about availability, and even more so for it being in around the same time as the Vibrant and Captivate.

the leader in gaming and 720p recording and next gen screen, yes. Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves.
We dont know anything about call clarity, hardware build, battery life, software interface.

If it turns on, the battery lasts more than 5 hrs, and you can actually see the damn screen outdoors - its got my former Inc beat. Its the leader in my book right now. Samsung makes good phones.

How is call quality with Samsung? I have never had their products before... Also, you guys mean pre-ordering the Fascinate?

My issue is I am a girl and the X is just too big...plus, I guess I really love the looks and brightness of Fascinate. It totally looks sexy!!!

I agree about HTC...Incredible started out rough for many people...and the whole AMOLED to LCD switch is not a good thing.

I use to have the Alias, which was years ago I know, and I never had an issue with call quality that I remember. I highly doubt it will be terrible, at least any more so than most smart phones on VZW (which tend to be pretty darn good). Also, keep in mind only people with a complaint complain on an open forum. People who don't, well don't. They have no reason to come here and say, my phone quality rocks! So you will see more unhappy users than happy ones, and you will see it for EVERY phone. There are Moto, HTC, LG, Apple, etc complaints about everything under the sun. Doesn't mean those products are bad, just some users have bad experiences and most of the time those are subjective.

If the X is too big for you, the Fascinate might be too. While its not quite as big as the X, it is comparable to a degree. Maybe see if the EVO is too big (tallwise) and decide, they might be about the same height, even though the screen is bigger on the EVO. I say get the phone either way though :P

I had the samsung i700 eons ago. The call quality was ghastly!! Things have changed since then, though. I'd be curious, as well.

It's definitely VZW holding back the info. Moto surely has no say in the matter (they're not Apple, after all ) and why wouldn't Samsung want to advertise their new product. Can't blame VZW though, they have to run a business and sell lots of both of the phones. Oneuping the Droid X by pushing the Fascinate in front would ruin their sales figures and their "Droid" brand image.

I was thinking of getting something that is a little bigger than the Incredible...but X seems too big. So I thats why I think fascinate would be just perfect.

Fascinate should come out this month. 3 of the 4 Galaxy S should be out by the end of July. However, the last one, Epic 4G on Sprint, is yet to be determined.

The fascinate has a better (although .3 inches smaller) screen than the x. better cpu, better gpu, but less ram. That is all we really know.

Call quality should be ok.

Isn't it 512mb as well? Or you mean like the 2gig on board? I really don't care about that...cause I am planning on getting the 32gig sd card. The screen sure looks way better than the Incredible or the X...at least in the videos. If call quality is good and build quality is solid...I am sold

It really is interesting how quiet this VZ release is. I really believe it has everything to do with the Droid X release, but man, it's hard to make an informed decision with so little hands-on info out there. I really liked the Droid X, but I really like what little I can see about the Fascinate. The video camera samples taken with the Fascinate - for example - are super impressive.

This complete dampening of info and news about the Fascinate is crazy. The X and Fascinate were introduced only 6 days apart. I can find dozens and dozens of videos, hand-on reviews, details and opinions on the processor, the software info, etc about the Droid X. Yet I can find ALMOST NOTHING about the Fascinate. Not just from VZ, but from blogs, reviewers, etc.

- I really want to know how it feels to reviewers hand-on (other than from the 10 minutes at the release event). Yes, hummingbird, yada yada but how responsive is it during extended use?
- I want to know mostly if I can make Google Maps and Google Search defaults (Or are they actually the defaults, and Bing is just tacked on all over the home screens? We don't really know, because there hasn't been any hands-on. )
- I want to know about call quality.
- I want to know about battery life
- I want to know about its keyboard and typing (not Swype)
- I'd like to see a few more still photo examples of it's camera (you can find a surprising amount of video examples searching Galaxy S - and they all look excellent to me), but not nearly as many still shot examples seem to exist.

I want to know lots of other little things too, but it seems I may not be able to until after the X release unfortunately. I guess patience is a virtue, but it would be nice to have more info ..

I am currently using the I920 on VZW and the call quality for me is just fine, actually very good... and the speakerphone is excellent... I wish the fascinate had stereo speakers like the 920...

I emailed Samsung today to see if they have more information...I will let you all know what they say. It will probably be like a generic response...but hey, shows that people are interested.

+1 it's pretty shocking the difference between the two attention wise. I wonder if the fact that the droid x is an exclusive makes it more desirable to push it, versus the fascinate/galaxy-s/vibrant/captivate. I'm surprised Samsung isn't creating some hype themselves, again maybe it's because it's not an exclusive they don't have to worry as much, of course this is just conjecture. Might still get the droid x but would love some better info to see if the fascinate is worth waiting for.

Oh yea something I haven't seen discussed yet, cnet said the fascinate will play back multiple formats including divx, phone arena said one of those formats is MKV which would be awesome. Of course they could be 100% wrong later (like all blogs/media was about droid x early upgrade) but we'll see.

I am sure if they advertise it, many people will opt out for it because of features...but since VZW has the moto bond...they always try to push moto devices...but it's still frustrating!!!

yes it is. i was more excited than a fat kid on candy day about getting my Inc. At the time, it was the only game in town. Got it early, it died after 4 days, and then all the wind went out of my sails.
As far as I can tell, the Fascinate looks like a leader, but there is more to come. And who knows, Verizon may get the iPhone. If that happens I will really be torn.

Thats cuz its not part of the Droid line up. Verizon will only really focuses on their Droid line up.

The Samsung phones are high end phones so I'm sure they will get their fair share of advertising.

Found a Fascinate commercial (2nd video on the page) funny how they have a commercial ready but haven't sent it to more places for reviews.

It's not really a commercial, its just their generic video for their phones. Watch the Captivate one, its the same with the phones just being swapped. Plus, these videos have been available to view since the NY event a couple weeks ago, at the Samsung Galaxy S US site. The site has all 4 videos.

Anyway, I doubt VZW will advertise these phones themselves, it'll most likely be something similar to HTC's life advertisements. Samsung will advertise them as a class of phones.

I have seen many people question whether it will be part of Droid line up/naming or not...I think it will be something like "Samsung Fascinate by Galaxy S" as that's what the Captivate is named...just a thought.

I thought about that too. If I was making decisions at Verizon I would make it a part of the Droid line up.

They did it for the Eris.....lol I would be insulted if I was Samsung if they didnt at least approach Samsung about making it a Droid too.

I agree...all VZW Android phones should be part of Droid line up...I think it's a really neat idea.

I think they might have, and Samsung said no. Samsung is pushing their own brand of high end androids as the Galaxy S line. I guess they could compromise and call it Droid Galaxy S or Galaxy S Droid, but it doesn't really fit Samsungs naming scheme.

Oneuping the Droid X by pushing the Fascinate in front would ruin their sales figures and their "Droid" brand image.
I agree it's VZW holding back the info, although I woudl say Moto has a little say in it. And VZW isn't going to advertise a phone coming up (my guess is closer to Thanksgiving), when they have a release of a similar phone coming sooner.

It's not very common for the manufacturer to advertise the phoens, moreso the carriers. The carriers have more of a say about when the phone is released than the manufacturers, and the manufacturer wouldn't want to advertise one of their phones if it may hurt the sales of another (on a different carrier).

How do you figure on the cpu part? I haven't seen any reviews of OMAP vs. Hummingbird. I may have to do some digging around..

Hope to be seeing that commercial soon. The more i read about this phone, the more excited i get. I think I would take this phone over a Verizon iPhone, if that scenario was available.
In my opinion, this is the Verizion iPhone and can really help Android get an iron grip on the market. The Fascinate is so damn sexy, it will make the Inc and X look like chop suey. I am interested in reading more about the Hummingbird processor. They are touting a phone faster than other Android phones, so I will be looking forward to some bench tests. I've seen some with other Samsung Galaxy phones, but I want to see the Fascinate. I also think Super Amoled is as good if not better than iPhone retina.

This phone will be out WAY sooner than Thanksgiving. It will likely have 2.2 by Thanksgiving time period I bet even. There is no way the other 3 carriers release this phone this month, and VZW waits 4.5 more months.. There is no info available of course on this, so it's anyone's guess for now. Mine is August ..

I agree. There's too much hype as it is. As soon as the X hype, or lack of, dies down, we'll have a release date. The Droid X is one ugly phone. The grey finish reminds me of their old flip phones from 1997.

Not to mention that all four versions are advertised as coming this summer.

I handled the phone at the store an hour ago. It is NOT an ugly phone. That's a personal judgement. It's not ugly. It's huge, though. Huge and thin. (no "that's what she said jokes), please)

I'm not sure if I want it or if I'll wait for the Fasc, but it's not ugly.

Carry on.

How did you get your hands on an X when they're not releasing the in-store demos until 7/15?

Ok, so the X may not be ugly, but from what I can tell, the Fascinate is still better looking. Things I like about the X is the 3 microphones for better sound and the double flash, which I'm not sure is necessary or not.

Yes, you're right. It is not on display, but my store had one behind the counter to show folks. I played with it.

You're kidding right? T-Mobile and AT&T have already announced they are releasing their versions of the Galaxy S this month. Do you think they're lying?

if that's the case, Verizon is surely not going to let them steal their thunder.

I've talked to a few Verizon story employees and they've been dropping hints about something big coming to Verizon here in the next month or so. I don't know if it was the X or not, hard telling with so many Android devices flying at us.
I would be shocked if the Fascinate wasn't released with a big bang. I think this is the phone Verizon should be marketing as an answer to the iPhone. That Samsung commercial would even have iPhone users thinking twice.

Kidding about what? I said that the other 3 carriers are releasing the phone this month, and there is NO WAY that VZ will be waiting another 4+ months to release theirs .. You are the one who said you are betting on around Thanksgiving for VZ ... It's all speculation anyway until we hear something from VZW...

I agree, especially with folks saying it looks like an iPhone. From the UI to the build.

I keep watching the video reviews and just can't get enough of it. The only thing, from what i can tell, that it needs is more MP on the cam and could have had a front cam, but that's not a deal breaker. Now that phones are so much more powerful, I can see someone coming up with a front camera attachment that is not too intrusive.

The Samsung Fascinate is the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S line of phones. Much like it's brothers, it includes the same 5.0MP camera capable of taking some of the best quality 720p HD video at 30fps. Unlike the other Galaxy S phones ... Read More
