Default Possible for Fascinate to launch with 2.2?

So samsung has already said that the galaxy s line is supposed to get the 2.2 upgrade later this year. Does anyone else think its possible that the fascinate could launch with 2.2? The X is out and the droid 2 is supposed launch next month, so unless they are planning to do a really quiet launch of the fascinate, it probably wouldn't launch until the following month or maybe even later. Could vzw be planning this phone to be their holiday phone this year? Or are there going to be bigger plans for that? Just thinking out loud and seeing what everyone else thought.

Definitely one possibility. All the Fascinate press and descriptions from Samsung or Verizon seem to specifically identify Android 2.1, perhaps a sign that Verizon at least plans to release the Fascinate before there is an update available for 2.2?

It will be interesting to see when the Galaxy S phones in the US get an update to Android 2.2 FroYo. The Droid 2 is rumored to be launching with 2.2 sometime in August (I've seen both 8/12 and 8/23 rumored) and the Droid X to get it later in August, but the version of Motorola Blur UI used on those seems likely to have an easier time being modified for FroYo than HTC Sense or Samsung TouchWiz.

Well, it's being tested right now on 2.1. The Droid 2 will be the first to launch with 2.2.

It is definitely possible, but not likely, that it will launch with 2.2. I'm not too worried about any updates, however, because the dev community is already working on ROMs for it.

I think it will be one of VZW's holiday phones, but am quietly hoping the rumored Droid Pro will be the featured holiday phone.

I'm not saying I distrust him I just like to read a lot of info on the phone I was hoping to buy(it's my odd thing about me). Maybe some info we don't know about, I heard a rumor that the version verizon is selling just as locked down as the droid x (which was rooted I know). I don't doubt it but you never know, and thanks for the welcome.

Average from testing start to launch is 6 to 8 weeks. It just started testing last week.

So I say end of September/early October.

While this news does depress me I do have a question to ask (and I think you for the info btw), I heard from another form the Fascinate was locked down like the Droid X I was wondering if that was true. That is my only real concern

Not saying you are wrong, but samsung tweeted that both the epic and fascinate will be coming in a few weeks. Sounds more like end of August, if they are right at least.

That would put it more towards the 6 weeks time frame. Not outside the realm of possibility. Depends on how testing goes.

Samsung Mobile USA (SamsungMobileUS) on Twitter

I'm new to twitter (signed up to enter their captivate contest lol), so I don't how to link a single tweet. Just scroll down to towards the bottom, and there's a tweet from the 23rd to Aerroskyknight. It says the Tmo and ATT ones are available now, and Sprint and VZW will get theirs in a few weeks.

I am not sure how reliable their tweets are but a few weeks is much better than "coming soon".

Just because Samsung releases the phone to the carrier doesn't mean it launches immediately. It still has to pass VZW field tests.

Well now that we have a idea of it's release, my only concern is I've been hearing the Fascinate was locked like the Motorola Droid X and Droid 2.

If the insider is a rep or a store manager, then disregard it. If it was VZ's engineering team member, then yeah...,
From what I have been tracking it will be easily rootable, and the bootloader will not be locked since the other SGS phones aren't. I think bootloader locking happens at the Manufacturer's (Samsung) level, and it would just add more complexity to it if the phone was customized just for Verizon.
Modaco already has a ROM out with TouchWiz deleted on it, I think.
Only time will tell us.

He didn't say store rep (he said it was a tester), but like you said time will tell. But I do agree it would be more complex to re do the phone just to have a boot lock for one carrier when the rest doesn't. Thanks for your incite.

NKT is very legit. He's the one who got the first pictures of the Incredible on the internet that were subsequently posted by all the major sites.

NKT, what's your thoughts on the Fascinate? I have the X right now and wish it were a bit slimmer. Is the Fascinate something I should consider or do you think the X and Moto is a better/safer alternative?

The Facinate's screen is definitely nice. The Super AMOLED is crisp and vibrant. I haven't played much with the OS so can't speak to that, but the form factor is nice. It's thin and slim.

I can say, the biggest thing I've heard about the Facinate is the battery life. It's been said to be phenomenal!

I know my brother has an X and its battery life is just insane, he goes from 7am to 10pm still has usually over 40% left.
Unless Fascinate is different from other SGS phones, I can't see it being that much better, although I am not quesitoning you.

All battery life stories are anecdotal. There are too many variables that affect battery life to extrapolate hard numbers in the real world.

Key point is, from what I've seen the Facinate has been more battery friendly than the majority of other devices out there.

OK thanks, another quick question.
Does heat ever get too hot?
I noticed when using Droid X with GPS and Need for Speed, the phone gets fairly warm. I realize that Droid X is very thin for its size. Fascinate is just as thin, and I wanted to know if it had the same condition.

I doubt it is locked down because it is a galaxy s phone which they already rooted and have custom roms for so i doubt its locked down

It's a big benefit of a AMOLED screen. They consume very little power compared to other screens which is huge for phones since the screen is the biggest battery hog. Various tests have seen the Galaxy S get around two days worth of battery life. Insane for a smartphone running Android.

@NKT

Have you heard about any of the Benchmarks from the Fascinate?? Do they match up with the GSM versions??

I've been hearing that the GSM versions with the internal Memories have been having issues. Its made apparent by the I/O bench markings on Quadrant

It's a bug and has been solved by people over at MoDaCo. Benchmark scores showed it faster than the Nexus one with 2.2.

Thats what I wanted to know. If the Fascinate scores the same score as a Galaxy S using the MoDaCo fix.
