Insurance/ext warranty worth it for 1 yr contract?
Just curious, but are any of you who are planning to buy the Fascinate, or have already done so, getting the Asurion insurance, extended warranty, or the combination of both?
I've never gone with phone insurance before and alway use a case and treat my phones fairly conscientiously, and have never had to get one replaced (knock on wood).
Just wondering what the prevailing opinion is on adding up to $7.99 a month to the bill, especially as I plan on only a 1 yr contract.
to buy the insurance on a one year contract. $72 per year insurance cost plus $89 deductible = $161 and without it Verizon will sell you a certified pre-owned version of your phone for about $160. Both methods are limited to one replacement per year. So the cost is a wash if you lose your phone and if your past experience continues, the insurance would be money down the drain IMO.

Can you start an insurance policy on the replacement phone?
Also, can anyone confirm that VZW will sell you the replacement for $160?
It will be more then 160 and that's only if they have a used one to sell you no guarantee you may be waiting months for them to. Have a certified used one to sell you atleast with insurance you get it next day.
1 is $6/month and cover accidental damage, loss and theft
the other is $7.99/m and covers those plus "anything else" including intentional damage.
You can also pay for the extended warranty coverage.
Can anyone confirm what the difference is between $6/m vs $8/m beside intentional damage?

If you are not an irresponsible person like taking the phone to places you shouldn't, I cannot see the need for insurance.
And if you are active person (like me ), you should consider buying some waterproof pouch. I put my phone in an Aquapac (http://www.aquapac.net/) pouch when I am doing water sport.

The difference is that the $7.99 combines the insurance with the extended warranty. The insurance by itself is $6.00. Intentional damage will not be covered by any insurance for anything you own.
the certified preowned I believe is only if they have that phone available for this. They couldn't sell me one when my droid went out.. I went with the insurance for $6 a month.. extended warranty isn't worth it IMO. definitely not for a 1 yr. contract since the extended only covers after the 1st year up to the 2nd yr.

If you have renters or home-owners insurance get a rider added on to cover the handset. Mine covers my Eris, Nook and iPod Touch for less than $15/yr. There is no deductible and my insurance company just cuts me a check for the full price of the item so I don't even have to get the same device if I don't want to.
i recommend insurance. you never know what will happen, insurance covers everything lost stolen wet cracked display get mad and smash the phone on the ground as long as you dont tell them you did it. the only exclusions in the brocure is government seizure and nuclear war. and you get 2 claims in a rolling 12 months. while working at a store when the first droid came out he got it and the 1st night it got stolen at the bar. insur bought him a phone over the phone at the store he left with a new droid and a week later he came back with a shattered display.. again they bought him a new phone and he left with a new droid. insur dropped 1150 in a week for him to get a new phone and he only spent 178 something to think about you cannot see the future and dnt know what will happen.
as far as the certified pre owned for 160 that is not true. yes they have the CPO option you can do once every 12 months. depending on the phone it varies starting at 50 for a motorola 325 up to 300 for a droid 1. so yes you pay 161 for insurance and the deductible. it can vary depending on the phone you get with the CPO option.
with the CPO option you have a list of 60 phones and you can pick any of them and get it for about the 1year pricing and it comes with a 1 year warranty and everything the phone orginally came with.
there is 4 options for insurance.
basic phones non smartphones and under 300 full retail
insurance 4.49 covers all damages done to phone for 39$ deductible
tec- 5.99 covers insur and ext warranty covers above and gives you a 2nd year of manufacture warranty
advanced- smartphones and phones over 300
insurance- 6.00 covers all damages to phone for 89$ deductible
tec 7.99 covers insurance and ext warranty covers above and gives you a 2nd year of manufacture warranty
The Samsung Fascinate is the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S line of phones. Much like it's brothers, it includes the same 5.0MP camera capable of taking some of the best quality 720p HD video at 30fps. Unlike the other Galaxy S phones ... Read More
