Wondering if I have a bad battery or my cell reception really does suck. My phone lasted almost 24 hours. 43% of the battery drained due to voice calls. The calls added up to 45 minutes. This can't be right???

Please post the rest of what took your battery up. Talk time is only part of the picture. What was the rest of the distribution?

Also, keep in mind, if you restarted your phone at any time during the day, it resets that tracker.

good point, but in comparing apples to apples yesterday i was running the same kernel I was last saturday. If anything I have more widgets and stuff going now. Last saturday was a VERY heavy use compared to a relatively light one yesterday but in any event, for a smart phone, this battery is a rock.

Same can be said for the droid x, which even may be a tad better

Its impressive that touch screen smartphones in general are making seemingly good gains in battery life, whereas blackberrys (at least in my experience are going the other way). My bb 8830 back in the day would last forever, i used to charge it like twice a week (granted there was very little multimedia stuff going on with use) and my most recent blackberry tour was garbage in the battery department. My wife and I both had them and mine was on the charger every night and hers usually was to.

CDMA bbs were always worse than gsm in battery life anyway though, for those who may have used them.

Yeah the funny thing about maxing battery life with everything I've done is now I do use only about 40-60% battery on a average day. So whats the point of going to bed with 41 or 59% battery remaining?
Now SK is going to love this next comment, I now have such a surplus of battery life I contemplating going back to live wallpaper, maybe. I suppose the point of all this battery life saving is to give us longer ability to use our SF. As long as I charge at night I cannot remember the last time I needed to worry about charging. In fact, I have even had a few nights where at the end of the day I was at 60-70% battery and didnt even charge at night figuring I'd make it thru the next day.

I gave in and went back to using live wallpaper. I bought this phone and switched to the Android OS to take advantage of the fabulous screen and all of the great widgets. What's the point of if i'm going to strip the phone down to get an extra couple hours out of it? I'm just going to charge it more often...

I like PhysX and the starfield one. PhysX is especially battery friendly.

Well I went back to the Fascinate as of Saturday night, couldnt resist..Missed the Form Factor to much compared to the X! Anyway, I have beautiful Widgets Running, Live wallpaper, and a pretty good amount of widgets up, and I'm on 70% right now! Thats with talking it off the charger at 10am, and with moderate use through out the day. This one for some reason has been good straight out of the box, my previous Fascinate was fine after about a week worth of charges.

My battery life in the past 24 hours has been twice as good as what it had been the prior 2 weeks of me owning the phone. The improvement coincided with me uninstalling the engadget app and installing updates for a few of my other apps. I think it was probably a buggy app killing my battery before. It's been 29 hours since I charged my phone and I'm at 46%. My battery used to last 12 hours so this is a welcome development and more in line with what I expect given my usage.

I bet that happens a lot to people and they blame the phone, regardless of which phone it actually is.

After my experience today, I have to say that I was impressed....We lost power this morning for about 3 hours. (from 7-10am) The SF was my only means of communication. After a lot of texting, calls, and web surfing, the battery only drained a little. By 6pm or so, I still had more than half my charge left.

I've been pretty happy with it so far. I did a battery reset yesterday morning at about 7am, and by 9pm I was still trying to get the battery to drain all the way before I plugged it back in. I can live with that.

Yep. I think that's a ticket. I mean, of course we dream of a phone that can go for a week on a charge ... some day. But having to charge it every night or every other night is a small price to pay for a thin, powerful, and extremely high quality screen containing device that does SO MUCH. And with style.

Exactly. I have to plug my laptop in every three hours. I can do almost as much on my phone as I can do on my laptop, and I can carry it in my purse or pocket. My laptop, not so much.

As long as my battery lasts the whole day, I'm satisfied.

Birds of a feather
We have such good battery life we should still be able to go a full day on a 1.4Ghz 1400mv kernel [Oh how I miss the days of a new kernel every morning from Dirrk]

Not at all, according to VZW I have a monthly volume of 4K+, so what 140 a day average. I usually get 14-16hours+ on a full charge with that degree of text volume plus everything else. Now if your definition of heavy is 500 a day then you will not find a phone which is good for you honestly. SF is one of the best battery life phones on Verizon

I'm a Smartphone newbie. Have owned the Fascinate for about a week and am alarmed at the battery drain. I came across this forum on a google search. I've read the entire thread and appreciate everyone's posts.

I charged up to 98% this morning and disconnected the charger at 11:15.

According to the Battery Life app in Settings/About Phone/Battery Use it's been 6 hours and 20 minutes since I charged.

I'm currently at 40% charge. Battery Use is telling me my usage has been as follows:

Display - 50%
Voice Calls - 20%
Cell Standby- 17%
Phone idle - 8 %
Android System - 3 %

I made no phone calls during this time. I did use it just a bit. A couple of searches for a backup app in Markets, fooled around with Opera once or twice. I made sure to kill any app I opened right after I used it. I tried to set my K9 email to fetch only every hour, but it kept fetching every five minutes anyway (???). I replaced my animated wallpaper with a stationary color wallpaper. I used no GPS, Bluetooth or Wifi. I removed my weather.com app. I've been getting about two bars on my cellphone signal.

I think something's wrong here. It's dropped from 41% to 37% just while I've written this. I'm getting ready to exchange this for a new one, but don't want the hassle. Any ideas?

Do you have any widgets that are constantly updating on any of your screens? Maybe its an unstable app that is constantly running. you should get task panel (I think its free) it could help you track which app is draining your battery. Is your brightness in automatic? manually set it to around 20% (it works well for me) live wall papers could be a battery hog too.

That's actually a little alarmingly bad, even for a stock Fascinate. Make sure you have all the automatic syncing stuff disabled. Turn on your phone's power saving features. Auto typically does fine for me on the screen setting, and I like it to crank the brightness up for me when in the bright outdoors. Maybe Autokiller would help, too. And do what you can to de-bloat your phone.

Thks for your replies. I downloaded a program called "Watchdog" and it is monitoring my CPU usage by app. So far I'm not seeing anything unusual. Put my weather.com widget back up. It's not doing anything.

Will do a full charge overnight and experiment around tomorrow. Will update. Appreciate the help!!!!

OK, I charged up to 97% overnight

I turned it on in Airplane mode and didn't touch it for 3 hours Result was only 4% usage down to 93 %

then I put it back in normal mode ran it for two hours

- screen brightness locked at 20%
- background data sync set to "off"
- no apps running except:
Watchdog app running constantly on "high" setting to monitor cpu usage
approx 1 hour of listening to internet radio via "Sports Radio Droid" app
aprrox 1 hour of listening to internal SD music via Winamp

Results: a 32% drop in battery power from 93% to 61%

So I shut of Watchdog and listened to one hour of music on Winamp. This was the only activity

Results: another 20 pct drop in battery power from 61% to 41%

Watchdog didn't show anything unusual in terms of CPU usage. The Battery Power section of "About Phone" is also showing pretty much the same stats except that 17% of the battery power was drained by "Media Server". I'm guessing this is from playing Winamp.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Take it to a retail store and tell them you have a defective battery and get a replacement and/or *611 and call CS and tell them your situation. You have a suboptimal battery

Will do. Thanks for the advice. Do I have to do a complete back up, or will they move my chip over to the new device?

It's report like this one that concerns me on switching to SF though majority seems to enjoy good battery life with SF. I will wait until 11/08 and see what they announce for new android phone, then decide which one.

Now chip to remove this isnt a GSM phone with a sim card. Now if you have anything on the sdcard either copy that on your hard drive or ask them to swap it out for you.

Actually you just need a new battery not a new phone right? So you will keep what you have and just get a new battery. Unless they give you an entirely new phone in which case you'll ask them to trade your sdcard since it should be the same 16gb card

I bought it from a Verizon store at the mall. Those guys there don't seem like they would have the expertise to change a battery. I'm guessing it'll be easier for them just to give me a new phone. I guess I'll just shop the app store for the most popular back up and back everything up. Thanks for help..

Wow. How do I track down a "rogue" app?!

I can't get more than 10 hours of battery life with my Fascinate

Hey Saps. I talked to the guys at the Verizon store. They have batteries in stock and will replace mine. That's great, but I realized I'm having another problem.

There's a mysterious beeping noise that the device makes, seemingly at random.

I first noticed it when it was charging. I emits a series of four or five loud beeps continuously like beep-beep-beep-beep-beep pause beep-beep-beep-beep-beep pause beep-beep-beep-beep-beep and so on.

It only goes away when I unplug the charger and then plug the charger back in.

There are no messages associated with the beep.

And it doesn't always happen when charging. Once I was just holding it and it started up. Volume down to zero got it to shut up, but it didn't stop the beeping. The beeping only stopped when I plugged in the charger.

Have you ever heard of anything like this? Thanks.

See I don't want to go to the store and get a new battery if this thing has a bug.

Oh and re Beeping. I've scrolled through all the sound settings. My notification sound is set to a unique musical theme I downloaded and emergency tone is set to "off"

You'll have to try it for yourself; depends on your use and your service area. It's got lots of options but for the most part it's just toggling your 3G.

Don't want to clutter with more pictures, so here:

Dirrk's D01 overclocking kernels with lagfix
Post your Screenshots and Wallpaper!

Yes, JD and Ultimate juice have significantly increased my battery life. I personally have noticed the difference; however, as NOsquid said, you should try it yourself and YMMV.

its gotta be a battery issue.

for an semi-accurate comparison (although neither phone is stock) i have the inc and fascinate too and my wife is currently using the inc because shes had it with her pre plus. we both take it off the charger at 530 am and both get home around 5 pm...ill play angry birds, baseball superstars for about 30 mins-45 mins during the day, 10-20 texts, 30 mins on the web, 20 mins on the phone, download a few things and ill be home with over 60 % left in the battery.

her phone (even bump-charged) will be at %50 percent or less just with those 10-20 texts, 20 mins on the phone, and maybe 15 mins of nesoid and check an email or two...and shes on an overclock/undervolt kernel where as im on stock voltage.

thats this weeks comparison anyway

I have come to the conclusion that battery life us unpredictable because of my unpredictable use. On my D1 I get 12+ hours sometimes and others don't make it from 7am to 5pm. I am finding the same for the SF.

Just to throw another option out there. I happen to sell Verizon Wireless for an independent agent and sometimes when a new phone comes in that we don't know very well we will put the phone together and just check it out a bit. In doing so, we would obviously have to open the battery and put it in the phone. It's still a new phone. We've just put it together prior to your purchasing it. Out of curiosity, would you find that unacceptable? (Honestly just wondering...)

If you did a reset after you dorked around with it, I don't see what the problem would be. I might not want a phone that has been messed with and oviously has made a call, sent a text, has internet history and downloaded apps on it. Do a wipe and repack it and it is the same as a sealed box from my standpoint.

I haven't read all the post but I just switched over from a HTC Incredible and the battery life on the SF is wonderful compared to the Inc. Today I took my phone off the charger at 8am, its now 8pm and I'm at 55% with moderate use. A few phone calls, a bunch of txt messages, some light web browsing and a little bit of gaming. Now compared to the Droid Inc I would be around 20% right now and thats with the extended 1500mah batter I bought for it. Pretty happy with the battery life so far.
