Default Fascinate Front facing camera?

I am sure everyone has seen the thread on XDA about installing a manual FFC on the Vibrant. Does anyone know if this same procedure would work with the Fascinate?

In theory any and all Galaxy S phones could be modded this way

I didn't know if the fact that we have a flash would make a difference.

Right you'd only use the camera portion not the flash for the SF or epic

I didn't know if the flash was part of the camera assembly or not. There was some debate on xda if they had the same camera or not. Does anyone know if there is a complete teardown of the fascinate I definitely am going to try this if I can gather more information about it and knowledge if the drivers from the vibrant will work once we get 2.2

I registered just so that I could take part in this conversation. I guess I was going to register eventually anyway.

I'm trying to open up my Fascinate so that I can verify that there is room for the camera. I've watched the video of the guy opening up the Vibrant, but it doesn't seem to be going as easily for me. I've trying prying the back apart where the clips may be, but I'm just not having any luck. Any thoughts? Anyone tried this yet or want to give it a shot?

Thanks!

I would be more interested in a notification light than a FFC, I really could care less about the camera.

So I've gotten the body open and done some exploration. It looks like the headphone jack is blocking the spot where FFC would sit. Maybe it would be possible to put it underneath, but it doesn't look like it. This teardown was a bit more complicated than the i9000, but it is still possible.

If anyone can figure out how to get the display up, please let me know. I wasn't able to do so but would like to in order to scratch off the Verizon logo.

Forgive the picture quality. These were taken with my iPhone 3G. Without further ado...

All of the parts and pieces

Camera module

This picture shows the square spot where the camera sits, along with the headphone jack in place right below it (top of the phone is down, sorry). The round slot is where the vibrator motor sits.

Another shot of the whole assembly with sensors lifted, headphone jack removed

Sensors not lifted, but not locked into place here

This FFC project isn't looking too good. Thoughts? Are these pictures showing up correctly?

I just got a new Fascinate a couple weeks ago and I've noticed small spots to the left of the earpiece that look an awful lot like a FFC. Are these what I think they are or is it something else? Proximity sensor?

Those are the proximity sensors. No FFC on Fascinate.

Put it where the light sensor is. They are useless anyway.

looking closely at the connector, no. Its just like the i9000 replacment. Its got that bridge running down the middle of the connector

the fascinate and the vibrant arent identical under the hood in how they are setup/wired....its been established that the ffc mod will not work on our phones...but hey if someone wants to break their phone trying, by all means

This is just a shot in the dark, but what if that space is for the notification LED circuits? Has anyone tried looking at the notification LED circuits on the EPIC? maybe that would fit instead of an FFC

I'm just curious, what information would Uncle Sam be gaining from looking at peoples' faces as they stare at their phones?

Default I think it does...

When my girlfriend first got the Fascinate we were playing with it and before she restarted and updated it we played with the camera and we switched between front and back and that it was really cool. Well after it update apparently it didn't work anymore and we couldn't figure out what we had done before to make it work... So I've been looking it up and so many people say no camera... but that is crap, cuz I've used it before.

I'm just now looking into doing this because I'm getting sick of my iPhone. Would it be possible to move the jack to the bottom of the phone and put the ffc where the jack sits. Or is there simply no other camera that has the same connectors?
