I'll test tomorrow and post up-this may be the answer. Remember- turn it on for nav and maps. It's odd, even if there is no wifi signal, it locks on to sats great as long as wifi is on. I did not think of this, the blue map triangle with a 4300 meter circle instructs after tapping it to turn on wifi for better accuracy and it is accurate to 2 meters. I need battery way more than nav so I am keeping it off unless I need it (or June 2012 when I get the iPhone and I can leave everything on all day and have a 50% charge at midnight like a normal phone).

My question is why did everyone have wifi running all the time to begin with? I only turn it on when needed. Heck I only turn EVERYTHING on when needed.

Yes, I never had wiFi on because I felt it was not needed with my 3G connection. Little did I know that WiFi is what enables the GPS (even if there is no WF signal). Now, maps and GPS are nearly instant with WF on which was never the case before. I am keeping WF, GPS, and BT off since I need none of them at work and and rarely need to navigate. If Nav is neened, WF is easy to turn on. Seems to be working with battery still on full after 6 hours. The real test comes when I am in an all day meeting checking emails and texting all day.

Uhh...because I am in places where there is a WiFi signal a lot? There was never this issue before, so there was no reason for me to actually have to turn it on and off every time I used it. Just because you don't use a feature doesn't mean there aren't thousands of other owners who might use it.

How is Nav and maps with your phone with WF off? I seem to be the only one who has experienced very poor Nav going to superb Nav by turning on WF- Again, this was a prompt on the phone, not my bright idea. I bring this up because the WF seems to be the culprit eating the battery.

I am at 62% after 9 hours- several emails, few texts, no calls. I don't know if that is good or bad- we'll see how the evening goes.

I am at 34% and just hit yellow at 15 hours- WF, BT, and GPS off all day. Moderate email use, minimal text, no calls. During one 2 hour span today the phone was untouched and battery went from 64% to 54%. If you don't use it, it will last all day. Heavy use and you are lucky to get 10 hours even with everything off.

I would tend to agree- holding judgement on mine until I am at a meeting with heavy text and email, few calls, no GPS etc. I was in Boston with use just like that and whilst on 2.1 I hit red by 4pm and had to friggin charge the phone in the hotel b4 heading to dinner

I accidently kept my Wifi online at home (it was my day off at work) and it ate the battery the first day I had the phone.

Right now its 7:46 PM and I unplugged my phone from the charger at 8:30 AM. Battery at 56% and this is after about an hour of phone calls, 300-400 texts, and downloading about 3 app updates and 2 new apps. And I played Cordy for about 10 mins to show my brother.

Impressed with the battery so far I also got a 1544 in Quadrant which is killer.

300-400 texts? dude, when do you work- OK I see- it was ur day off. Anyhoo, I am hoping this WiFi idea pans out b/c it is maddening to have to think about my use during the day- that is not freedom especially when my iphone colleagues leave everything on all the time with heavy use and never have battery issues.

Wow, it was a legitimate question... I didn't know if there was some added benefit from having it on other than the obvious (you can connect to wifi when available). No need to be poopy about it...

I was on red at midnight with a 17% charge- I would say acceptable given the use which I would say was light to moderate. I really can't say intelligently until I have had a day of heavy use and what it does at 4pm. I have noticed that yellow and red last a lot longer in 2.2. Previously, once you hit yellow, you were pretty well done in 20 min.

I've noticed this too. Kind of nice but kind of scary lol (since you don't REALLY know when it's going to crap-out)

Well I apologize. I've just seen it too much when people go online and say "Why in the world would you do that," or "why would you use that because I don't use it." Sorry for jumping to conclusions.

Anyways, my battery life has been much better lately. I guess I will just have to leave WiFi off from now on.

I work at a cell phone store that sells Cricket service, but its a very slow store so I text all day at work when im here too. Seriously, 90% of my job is surfing the internet and texting the girlfriend and a few friends haha.

And yeah, iPhones get ridiculously good battery life but the OS is made a lot different.

It's funny how my girlfriend does complain about it. Rare case though.

Its 5pm and I have been on yellow for 45min. 10-15 texts, multiple emails 30 or so, and 5 phone calls under 5 min each. Battery sucks- no question in my mind. My associate has given up his pager and uses his iPhone. I could never do that with this phone. People who need to reach me can at least page if my phone is dead- happened twice on 2.1. Here is another kick in the head- try taking a picture with low battery- forget it- the camera will not function if the battery is low.

Apps on the market- many available- I use Android Optimizer which is a multi tool app that has battery life as one of its functions

OK (for those that care)

Little after 5 PM here. Phone has been on since 5 AM. I have run mixZing for about an hour this morning and maybe 30 minutes later in the morning. I have had maybe a dozen texts throughout the day, a couple of phone calls, I have had bluetooth ON in my car. I have downloaded I think 3 apps. So going on around 12 hours I am at 48%.

Good or bad?

Mine too! I did the update on Sunday and now my battery doesn't last past 4pm. Task killer and display settings are adjusted for minimal use, but still my battery dies! FB contact sync doesn't work either!

Hey guys, check out this new app on the market, its called screen filter, it has the power to lower brightness all the way to zero, it changed my display usage from 70 percent to less than 40 while I was using it at 30 percent of minimum brightness. The brightness does reset after reboot though.

My battery life was quite poor after the OTA update to Froyo, and eventually the TouchWiz UI crashed and would never recover, so I did a factory reset.

Both TW and the battery life are now excellent after the reset. I guess it's like PCs and a new version of Windows---a fresh install is always better than an upgrade install.

Hmmm... I did this too (total factory reset using ODIN and the stock flash). I then upgraded to 2.2 without doing anything and my battery life has still been poor What am I doing wrong? lol (my guess is NOTHING, it's just a crappy update)

My co-worker with an OG droid said the same thing happened to him when 2.2 was pushed to the droid...

I had an original droid that did not seem to suffer with the 2.2 update. I recall that the battery was much better than the SF but still on somedays could not last the entire day whether 2.1 or 2.2. This SF (even before 2.2) lasts a full day very infrequently especially with moderate use. I may well use wifey's upgrade in July and move to an iPhone 5- I'll miss some aspects of Android but I know too many people (some of whom I have experienced using their iPhone) that are thrilled with their iphones. This morning after 2 hours off the charger I was down to 93% with no use

I am sure this would help and I may look into it especially if i will be out of town at a meeting with heavy use- it won't make it past 4pm- a very dim screen could help- turning it off would really help.

Am I the only one who sees a problem with this beautiful vibrant Super Amoled screen being turned to ultra dim? Kind of flies in the face of what attracted me to the phone in the first place- no real advantage to the Super Amoled now- I can see showing a friend something on my phone and saying "oh, wait, let me turn the screen up so you can see how nice it looks". The Retina Display on the iPhone needs no such shennanigins which is one of the reasons I have decided to jump ship in early July- Here is a presale tip- My Fascinate will be for sale early July- Excellent shape with a new battery- PM me if interested.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Historically I take care of my things very well. An example might be that I have never had an accident in 33 years of driving. I may total my car tomorrow but that can not erase my history, so while I can't predict, I can make a reasonable assumption from an historical perspective . It is indeed possible that the phone may fall in the sink tomorrow but very unlikely.

I am reminded of Prov. 27:1- "boast not about tomorrow for you know not what a day may bring forth".

I am predicting I will be more satisfied with an iPhone though I know it is not perfect.

I'm a bit bummed that the "display" is what's sucking anywhere from 45-55% of my battery. I feel like I never even use the display. I mean, obviously I do, but I'm not watching movies or anything and I have brightness set ALL THE WAY down. My timeout is set at 15 sec... I dunno what else to do.

I think, some people, probably not all, but some might be suffering from a poor performing battery rather than a battery life issue. If you constantly charge your phone in your car or from the wall, you will only in reality get an 80ish percent charge, it will say it's all the way charged, but it's really not. The best charge comes from a slow trickle. Plug your phone into your computer to charge overnight as often as you can. It will give you the best charge, and should keep your battery in better shape in the long run.

I agree, the display is almost always dark in my pocket and only on when I use the phone which is not that much. Battery is better since VZW gave me a new one over the weekend. I am at 84% after 7.5 hrs with light use.

Edit: @ 7.5 hrs my associate with iphone (that never goes dead) is at 77% with a little more useage than me- I am feeling pretty good about my new battery

If battery, how did you swing that one?!

Samsung sent me a new phone last week. They were going to fix the old phone with a factory flash after the online flash bricked it and called me the very next day and said they would send me a new one. I kept the old battery, back cover, and SD card.

I stopped in the VZW store 2 days ago and told them about poor battery life, sometimes dead by 4pm etc- they swapped a new in box battery and trashed my old one. I am now at 9 hours and 80% with fairly light-moderate usage today.

Hmmm, I ought to try this...

I'm about dead by 4PM too... HORRIBLE battery life. I will stop in and see if they can do anything for me.

Anything specific I should mention? Anything you mentioned that seemed to be the tipping point?

I am at 76% just shy of 12 hours, I would say that use has been on the light side today. I did not mention anything specific other than it is not holding a charge and often is on yellow with only moderate use by late afternoon.

I did find what is supposed to be an OEM samsung battery on Amazon for $8.50+shipping (so like $10). I may just buy it and see what happens!

I too am getting a new battery from verizon. the batt for the SF was out of stock in store, so they are mailing it to me with a self addressed pre-paid envelope. I just have to send back my battery within 5 days. We'll see how it goes from there.

My phone as well as my wife's are not lasting past 5pm on a "full" charge from the wall charger...

For me deleting the ESPN widget helped. My phones been off the charger for 13 hours and I'm at 41%. I've also made a few calls, listened slacker radio through stereo Bluetooth headphones, and the occasional web browsing. I have not reset my phone since the update.

I went from charging every other day in 2.1 to twice a day with 2.2. I started running JuiceDefender and I am almost back to where I was before.

After update battery life sucks! Did a reset still sucks. I can take it off the charger @ 5:30 am - 20/30 text, rarely make phone calls, and maybe 1 to 2 hours of net/facebook by 3:00 pm I am at red and being told to charge. WTF? 9-10 hours and battery is dead? Under the battery use section it shows that my display is using 82%!! I have everything set low. Auto brightness, screen timeout set to 15 sec. , NO live wallpaper & power saving mode is on. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm going to have to look into JuiceDefender... if I could just get back to where I was before I'd be *happy*...

Excatly my story. EXACTLY. Says display is taking far majority of battery power. I've changed all of my backgrounds to black/grey (kind of a cool theme though) and have brightness and timeout set as low as possible and still says my display is gobbling up power. I don't get it.
