Default Screen keeps lighting up! Help pls.

Just got through my first month of being an Android user (used to be a BB user), and just loved the apps available... Im using a Samsung Ace 2 for my first android phone. One problem i found is that the screen keeps lighting up even if there aren't any new notifications... i've searched the net for possible solutions but they all havent worked for me...

I've tried exiting all apps on task manager,
Clearing the RAM on task manager,
Turning off Wifi, Mobile Data, and GPS
Power cycling...

ive tried all the above mentioned individually and as a whole and im still having the same issue... pls help
