I've had my Galaxy Ace 2 for about a week and noticed it crash on a few applications when using GPS. I first noticed it when using Waze so stopped using it, but it's also happened with Google Maps.

The screen will go black and all buttons become unresponsive. Holding down the power button and rebooting solves the problem.

Is this an IS issue, out does it sound like hardware?

I think this may be to do with applications sleeping or going into background mode. I haven't had it happen on Google Navigation
