Default Phone active while not being used

Hey guys,
Since 3-4 days now i noticed my battery would drop very fast and barely last 24 hours. Even when hardly using the phone.

So i checked the battery usage and for some reaon the activity bar has lots of activity on it.
Like last night it was active allmost 4/6th part of the night. It's large solig bars, not broken up small bits.
I have everything turned off, wi-fi, datapacks , background data etc. The screen and such show no signs of activity.

Usage stats show:
Display 25%
Android OS 24%
cell standby 15%
Media server 13%
Phone Idle 10%

So i cannot really see anything weird there either. AVG and Northon did not find any virus or anything either. I now turned my phone on and off to see if that helps.

Anyone has an idea of what it could be?

Update:
After i restarted my phone it now seems to work fine again. Last night it did not activate and after charging last afternoon it has now been on standby for 18 hours or so with only a little use yesterday and it is still at 90%.

Also there is a trick how to improve your battery's life. Some of the people listen music and browse internet same time. After they close it... Some programs may still be working background. To shut it down and clear memory I use widget which you can use it too. Press a button on your phone on the left (dunno how is called ) then ADD->WIDGETS and look for PROGRAM MONITOR. It will show active programs which you can close it whatever you want.. Plus clear memory as I said etc.

Thanks will try that.

I had some more issues lately where the battery life meter goes down at a 45degree angle and that while the phone does not show active either.

Hi, do you have 3G on all the time?? ie/ Auto Mode GSM/WCDMA??
In settings, go to "wireless & network" then "mobile networks" then "network mode".
Tick GSM only, this will put you on 2G.
3G is the biggest drain on battery because it is trying to connect 24/7, even if you are out of range. I reckon you will see a vast improvement on GSM/2G only!
I just switch 3G back on if I need to surf using packet data, if I'm not near wifi! Try it.

GrahamF - am I right in thinking that if "use packet data" and "Data roaming" is switched off (no green tick) then the phone would not be searching for a 3G connection. Or is the phone always seeking a connection for a 3g connection whether "use packet data" is on or off.

Just asking the question for clarification, not to undermine your answer.
Cheers

I have the 3g on Graham. But somehow it just empties too quick. The reason whi i don't understand why is becourse i had it on wifi and 3G before and then it went down at maybe a 10degree angle and not 45degrees.

Hi, in answer to graham35 & coenraad, it is definitely the 3G killing your battery guys! Your phone is ALWAYS searching for a 3G signal whether you are using it or not! & yes even if packet data is off it will still search to use it for non-data purposes. Try it with just 2G (GSM only) for a few days & I am positive you will notice an immediate increase in battery life. Try it & update us later. Graham

GrahamF - you are absolutely right, regarding switching off 3G. I have now researched this and there is loads of info on the net regarding this.

I don't have a power issue with mine, but I have now switched off the 3G (anything to save the planet - is good..lol) as I figure one day I shall be in need of the extra battery available to me.

Good advice, thanks

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 is a mid-range handset. It's a decent looking follow-up to the original but it still positions itself in the mid-range market in this day and age. It houses a 3.2 inch TFT display, an 800MHz processor, 768MB of RAM, Blu... Read More
