Question What is the real battery life?

Hey!

Can you please give some numbers to your words of "battery drains fast" =)
On the specification it says battery lasts for 640 hours or sth - that's a lot and not possible, so I'm hoping for some feedback from the people using the device.

For example:
1) how long does it lasts with wlan on/off
2) or just examples from your normal usage - what are you doing and how long the battery lasts in that scenario(s)

I'm thinking of buying it & battery life + build quality are very important things to know (I'm ok with the features that it has; don't think anything is missing for the usage I'd require).

Thanks in advance!

There are few things I did for this:
a) I had taken 3 g service from airel, as 3g service is not stable, it was always trying to search for the network and switch between gprs and 3g it was draining the battery. So I diabled the data pack for some time and use it when needed.
b) Shut down apps which were running in the background like facebook, maps etc.

but overall dont think we can do much about it as 1350 mh battery is not enough for. I have another lg optimus one, which has an 1500 mh battery.. that lasts longer.. with simimlar usage.

use advance task killer...and kill all ur application after every use...it helps to use less resource and keep all synch options manual(do whenever needed)...use gprs and wifi when required...

I was going to purchase this phone and now I have some doubts about it since I saw this topic. Can anyone post more information on the battery? If it lasts for 1 or 2 days, how much do you use it, 3G/GPRS enabled or disabled, phone rooted or not (if it makes a difference) and how does it compare to others like Galaxy Mini.

Default Battery life (hours, days)?!

C'mon guys - I guess quite a few of you here already have Samsung Galaxy Ace, right?
Most are complaining about how bad is the battery, how it drains so quickly, right?

But why has no one wrote any NUMBERS and the features, programs used during that time?

You can be saying that the battery is bad - of course is not as good as non-smart phones with smaller (maybe even black&white) screens.
It's obvious that you can't expect to go 1 week without charging.

For some (e.g., me) it's enough if it lasts 2 days.

2 days are actually perfect if I'd have WiFi on during the day (only use it for checking g-mail and maybe a couple of min for web-surfing), use camera for 5 photos, and 1h/day of calls.

That's suitable for me; I don't plan to play games for hours on the phone.
If I use GPS, I use it in my car & charge the phone all the time anyway.

Hi,

Well, I have my ACE since 3 days now. I had to charge it twice since than.
It was clear for me right from the beginning that by this kind of phones charging will be more usual in the everydays.

I guess, when it will becomes ordinary (this my first touchscreen phone) it will definietly keep longer to get the battery empty.

Right now Im using it a lot, exporing the new features, playing with the apps, checking the mails (a lot).

So I still belive that ACE is a very good choice (for e.g. compared to LGs P500).

Default Galaxy Ace Battery Problem

Hey Guys, I am using Samsung Galaxy ace from last 1 month & i am happy with it's battery. It lasts for 2 days. My usage is 10 -15 calls a day, 2Hrs of Music, 2 Hrs of Wi-Fi. Initially i had problems with battery, so i have done couple changes to the phone like below.

1) Disable GPRS / 3G immdiately ( Other wise it will try to sync the data & if you dont subscribe for any GPRS, so service provider will charge.)
2) Kill un - used services in Task Manager
3) Brightness to zero
4) Black wall paper... ( No live wall papers)

Default Smartphone battery life

This post is not about Galaxy Ace battery, but I just want to give you an idea about the battery in smartphones in general ...

I have HTC Desire (Li-Ion 1400 mAh) and usually it lasts for about 1,5-2 days.

For that, usage is following:
  • Wi-Fi = all the time ON
  • gmail + web browsing = mostly receiving and sending emails; checking webpages not too much ... that probably takes about 2 hours / day
  • gaming = 1 h / day
  • calls = 30 min / day (all on 2g network; never have 3g turned on)

Then I did a lil test ... checking what could be the battery life with minimal use of the HTC Desire:
-> I got 90 hours (3 days and 3/4)
During that time I was using the phone:
  • Calls = a bit more than 30 min (in total!)
  • Wi-Fi = 3,5 h (in total!); out of that mostly mailing + also some short-period web surfing
  • Gaming = a bit more than 30 min (in total!)

Basically the "test" I did was to check how much battery life I get when using my smartphone as an "old non-smartphone" (not using any of the newest features).
If I decide to buy Galaxy Ace, it wouldn't be for me, but for a not demanding user (who would still need to use some of the smartphone's features from time to time; e.g., mailing, web, gps).
So if in "minimal use" scenario smartphones lasts for 3 days = good enough for me =)

i don't actually know what happened but i think the longer i used my ace, the more it became better. yesterday i was using wifi for about 3 - 4 hours. exploring the market, looking for new apps and games and installing them. my battery went down for about 40%. basing from the battery icon at the top right. earlier, i used wifi with the same number of hours and the same actions but with downloading and installing the database to my dictionary and it only went down for i think 10% or 15%.

i don't know what made my ace become better especially in my battery and in the performance.

1. was it probably it was because everytime i charge it was off?

2. was it probably, i charge it first off, then after charge turned it on, used it a little after 10% - 15% battery went down, charged it again until finished charging. what do you call this again? continuous charging?

3. was it probably the juice defender that helped me out?

guys! one more thing. when you charge your phone, does it signify that it is full charge? does it tell you that it is full? or you just see the battery icon being full, then that's full for you?

3. will it prompt which to use? as mass storage or use kies?

4. or will it automatically run kies and look for its drivers then have the interface of kies?

5. did you turned on the usb debugging thingy? don't know what it is.

i recommend using juice defender, you can find it on android market
just use it on the "default" profile, it really saves you a lot of battery
it shows you how much it has increased the battery life,
for me it's usually 1.6 to 2.0 times the regular battery life.

also use battery indicator to show your battery percentage

i find these two apps really useful!

I'm pretty sure that there's a message when the battery charging is complete.

About the Juice defender, does it affect the performance of the phone?

Happy This can help

I bought Galaxy ace last April 4....

Yes the battery is draining fast but you can be cope with that...
I have some tips like install "Mysettings" you can easily adjust some setting like turning off wifi, Auto sync, 2G - 3G, Auto-Rotate, Bluetooth, brightness and others to help you minimize your battery usage..,

Dont use advance task killer, or maybe dont use its Auto Kill function. I just Use advance task killer before I sleep just to end some application while Im sleeping. But if you use to kill task frequently your CPU will always do the heavy job on opening application instead of just fetching it from the RAM.

Do not drain or nearly drain your battery, do not overcharge, If outlet is available plug it in until full charge and un-plug it...

If you charge it when it is on and the widget or some application says that it is 100% it is not...!! based on my observation when I charge it and the widget says that it is 100 percent and turn it off, It will continue to charge for about 1 hour and it will vibrate and indicate that it is fully charge...

Hope it helps..,

and about juice defender I dont know if it will improve your battery.., because as far sa i know it just turn off all the sync feature, wifi and some background process when you lock the phone.., maybe it is better if you just turn it off manually using "Mysetting" app...

I got a better solution for this guys.
Download Android Booster from Market (its Free). And install to your phone.
I don't know how this things work but I assure 100% that it will prolong your battery's life.

Tried and tested, before, normally I charged my phone 2-3 times a day, but after installing Android Booster, my phone battery is alive for almost two days.

I hope it could help you too.

My battery was at 60% (according to my battery widget) before I go to bed. When I woke up 6 hours later, I was horrified to see that my battery has only 20% left.... I did not turn on Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth or anything that I'm aware of...

Have a look under applications/battery use and see if theres anything odd using allot of battery.

I know there is a bug in the latest firmware for the galaxy s where android os uses excessive amounts of battery, 50-60%, it's worth checking.

Battery should only drain by around 5% over night.

hey, so ive just got this phone. had it on charge for 2nd time and before i went to bed, it was 100%, si i unplugged it. all it had turned on was 3g. over night it is needed a recharge.

under About phone: Battery use: it says, while last unplugged for 8h 57m its used:
50% cell standby
48% phone idle
3% display

ive already followed the whole, min screen timeout, lowest screen brightness, turn off wi-fi, gps ect ect.

Hi, 3g is THE worst thing for zapping battery, especially if you are in an area with a poor signal! Your handset has spent all night trying to connect & re-connect to 3g, so is not really in standby. Also, give the battery a chance to get used to your usage patterns. I've had the Ace since March & after a poor start I now get 3 days sometimes, or at least 1-2 days with "normal" use, ie/ bit of 3g, bit of wifi, games, playing music, a couple of calls & about 10-20 texts. Not bad I think! Maybe the motto for all Ace users should be "be patient"! Hope this helps. GrahamF.

GrahamF.
thats good i was getting a few days on froyo with a 1500mah on my ace.

rooted 2.3.4 with a 1930mah = light use 4 days 9 hours (little internet)
= normal use 2 days easily.games surfing etc

2.3.4 uses very little cpu & i can honestly say its comparable to a non smartphone when it comes to standby times.

ive had it swaped at the store i bought it now, so ill run it withough 3g ect. see how things go.

is it worth buying a 1500 battery then?

i wish they would develop a battery that can handle a modern day mobile, its pretty shocking that they are marketed as an all in one device, yet the battery isnt capable of going more than a day making use of all the functions

I can last 2 days with my battery, at the middle of the third day i have to charge.

Brightness is down, but i use wifi, music, games through the day. But i terminate the process when i'm done.

Yesterday I've installed many apps, tried them all, uninstalled, downloaded, transferred using bluetooth, listenend to music, checked my mails, watched a 40min movie file and today my battery has lost 1block of it's life (:

well so far, ive had the replacement ace for 26 hours now, sent quite a few txts, made a 10 min call, added about 10 apps via wi-fi and it has used about 21% of its battery.

i think we can safely say the 1st model i had was broken. much happier with this

Has anyone bought/used the 2430 mah battery advertised on ebay? If this is an option then it should solve the battery life issue

Bought and tested the Gold 2430 Mah battery. Full discharge and charge to 100%. Heavy usage for 45mins. Only than does the battery drop to 98%. Before that using the stock battery it would start dropping immediately. Seem like the Gold 2430 mah battery work as its seem to drain slower now. But by how much improvement I am not sure.

Hi All,
I got galaxy ace around a month back and came across few things

that were pretty much common like battery drain which got fixed by

disabling all the wi-fi,background data sync,using 2g n/w connection

instead of 3G, etc but the problem of fone lag specifically after

charging the fone is something which i am noticing since past few

weeks. After every charge i have to reboot the fone then the fone

responds normally or else i get a lag of around 4-5 second (lag

means- if i call thn by clicking dial button would dial the number

after 4-5 seconds and even 'end call' event would get processed

after the lag of almost 4-5 seconds).

Do revert me on this ASAP!

hi i also had this problem , turn off bluetooth, wifi, turn off data when not using it, because it will continue downloading updates, also set it to 2G rather than 3G as that drains the battery too , hope that helps

Surprised

Got same problem for two days after upgrading the firmware from 2.2 to 2.3.4.

It used to drain 50% battery overnight with everything turnedoff(bluetooth, wifi, gprs, backgroud data etc....).

I dont know how did it happen ....may be due to one complete
discharge/recharge cycle happened today.....

NOW MY BATTERY DRAINED ONLY 7% in 8hours.....

android OS works in wierd ways man.
