Since samsung has officially announced the Gingerbread update for the Ace, my question is has anyone gotten that on their Kies yet?
If you haven't tried yet, i'd urge you to try...
P.S. I heard it's already out in the UK..

1. Connect your phone to your PC and make sure it is connected to the internet..
2. run kies.. if kies shows a message that an update is available for your phone.. the PDA and CSC numbers should show KP8 most probably if its a gingerbread update..
3. after updating your firmware go to menu>settings>about phone and scroll down to see Build Number... If it says GINGERBREAD.XXKP8 or something like that then you've successfully updated your phone to gingerbread..
I don't know much about it but i think some providers will give OTA updates (your phone will display a message saying the update is available)..

Hi Pujitjuneja,
How can you be so sure that South East Asia will be getting Gingerbread update before 25th/May? Samsung's press release did not mention any dates whatsoever in regards of Gingerbread update for any of the Galaxy series phones/tablets.

i live in dubai..(middle east) and well i updated my ace to gingerbread... took about half an hour.
Oh by the way, i havnt been able to check it out yet completely, so does the update have any bugs..??
p.s its not sam firmware, its the official kies update
That's my estimate.. because the press release said that the update will reach all regions by the end of may and taking 1 week margin i said it might be here till about 25th
It's just an estimate.. Even the Samsung store doesn't know for sure when it will be available.
P.S. Galaxy S has been provided with updates in almost all regions so we can expect the official update soon..

Hi. I have an unique problem. I am from India. And its the Gingerbread update is available from Samsung Kies itself. But its been three days and I cannot update it. It instructs me to update, then it starts 'downloading firmware components. Then it starts "preparing firmware components" and never stops. That "preparing firmware components" window stays on the screen for hours and hours and is hard to remove unless the task manager is used. It has been three days and I am out of wits trying to figure, how to work this out! Can anyone, please help me?
That's actually a pretty common problem..
All you have to do is just start updating and leave the computer like that, not even use the memory or internet..
For best results try at about 11 at night(that's the only time it worked for me)...
And are you sure its the gingerbread update because i'm from India and have been checking regularly but there is no gingerbread update..
Does the kies window say something like PDA:KC1 PHONE:KC1 CSC:KC1 ?
because that's just an update for Froyo..

Have you updated the firmware from KA7 to KC1 ?
what is the difference between these two?

Honestly i just got the sleep of death bug which i didn't have in the KA7, otherwise, just a small difference in the battery life, or a bit better performance (very slight increase, nothing major)
I'd say wait for GB :P

what do you mean by a "sleep of death bug" ? This official firmware update is having a bug?

Yes it wasn't there when i purchased it, and i kept it on stock KA7 for about 3 weeks and had no problem, but on updating to KC1, the phone restarts sometimes when WiFi is active, and doesn't switch on till you remove the battery, for some people it resolved on changing WiFi sleep policy to never but for many it didn't so i'd say just wait for GB because it will have all bugs fixed.. (since the leaked ROM of gingerbread didn't have this bug)
Same here
Every site said Ace would get an update till the end of may, and unless samsung plans to roll it out at 11:59 on 31st May, i don't think its gonna come
The thing is... The press release by Samsung never mention anything about getting the Gingerbread updates to all Galaxy devices by end of May, the only 'time' mentioned is that Galaxy S update will be roll out in mid May. Samsung never commit to get the updates done by end of May.
Damn! I read on android community that it will all be updated by end of may
I even posted the link in one of the topics her.. well let's hope it comes soon..

Ah... So only Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab will get the update...
But after 3 times reading the thread... I think that Samsung will still release
Gingerbread update on Ace and others... But maybe not on this month...
Maybe next month or next next month...
What was just we need to do is to WAIT for it...
Wait for Samsung to release Gingerbread for Ace...
erm i really do remeber reading in ALL the update articles that the update would apply for the galaxy ace

I remember how long I had to wait for froyo on my samsung galaxy europa (i5500). It had to be on december 2010, but it wasn't. Then march 2011 but it wasn't. I don't know what happened next because I bought galaxy ace.
But I think it will be this same story here with ace.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace is an Internation/European Android phone with a 3.5-inch screen and 800MHz processor. Samsung describes it as minimal yet sophisticated and we'd have to agree. While the specs aren't top notch, the Galaxy Ace still co... Read More
