Galaxy Ace owners, please look here first! Great tips!!
These things keep cropping up about the Galaxy Ace:
1) The Galaxy ace does have Gorrilla Glass Look HERE
2) Flash (by default) is not supported on the Ace. To be honest its not really needed as the web is moving away from it to other technologies (HTML5 etc). I know there are ways to get it to install it and work around it, but by enlarge our armv6 processors are not supported. (it works for some but not for most)
3) ICS Will not be rolled out officially for the ACE. Phones with much higher specs and that are a lot newer wont either.
4) Cyanagenmod 7.2 has been given an official release. Check out my thread in the all things root section of this forum. CM 9 based on android 4.x.x will get a unnoffical release (most already works)
5) There is no front facing camera on this device - Its a proximity sensor - Skype will not work for video calls. There are apps that allow the back camera to be used but most dont.
6) No HD video recording in ace
7) Battery consumption is not the best. Stock roms are far better than CM based /custom roms
8) DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER - it will kill your phone (clockworkmod recovery on its own is ok though)
9) Dont use task killers. Android manages its own memory better and causing apps to reload when called on actually uses more CPU and Battery if they have to load from scratch.
11) The Variants of the Ace S5830 such as the I version (there are others) actually have different hardware and firmware. This is very important if you are looking to mod, flash, root, decompile or play with the phone in any other way as you could put phone in danger!!

3) There has been no conclusive proof that ICS will be officially on the ace. Some sources at samsung say yes, some say no.
4) Cyanagenmod 7.2 will get an official release (as told by kolja on google +) but official cm9 based on ICS is a no no.

Happy xmas to you Graham too! Yeah they toned it down and cut some bits but happy its up there! Hopefully we'll see less of the same thread clogging the forum!
@kazza0480 yeah the battery usage is not the best but most smartphones are similar. When you first get a phone you tend to play with it more than normal so you should see an improvement. Dont use task killers though as they are counter productive and actually cause more drain in the long run.

All I want to do is hear my music when recieving a text and NOT the crap thats installed at factory settings. Can anybody tell me if this is possible and if so HOW ?
Rooting is like putting a new operating system on the phone, as you may do with a home computer. The root OS is not provided by the phone manufacturer and will void the warranty. The benefits are by doing this it allows you to uninstall the useless bloatware stuff that comes with it and thus speed up the phone performance. I have done it and reverted back, just in case. I'd like my device to be rooted, but can't risk being left without a functional handset. £$£
tbh I found the performance difference negligible, the main thing for me was not having the crap on it that came preinstalled. But I can live with that for a while if it means I won't end up with a brick. In 18 months I'll be due another upgrade, if I have lasted that long without rooting I will root it when I have another handset (that is, unless I am playing with the new one too much!)

Rooting is simply allowing access to the root (system folder). It wont increase performance (unless you install programs to assist ie sd booster etc/chainfire 3d etc)
Flashing a custom rom would change the performance of the phone. (this is like putting a new os on a pc) rooting is the same os and everything else. For example a batter callibration app will not work without root privilages as it needs to delete the battery stats file found on the phones system folder. If rooted it can do this. Flashing a new rom (cyanagenmod 7/the myth ics etc) is the equivalent of a new os. Ie changing from windows to linux for example.

Thanks for the clarification, I flashed a custom rom on mine then using those (correct) terms.
Edit; I did it successfully previously, but as I said I have since put stock gingerbread back on to preserve the warranty.
Is the only risk involved when doing the install? Or can things still go wrong afterwards? For example in day to day use, or plugging it into a laptop, market updates etc...
I wouldn't mess around with the phone too much (i've heard of problems occurring due to 'overclocking'), I wouldn't alter anything like that from the custom rom after successfully installing it.
Thanks in advance.

You told that flash is working for you.
Can you play a video from dailymotion website or like this any such websites from where you can play videos directly except youtube?

Sent you a PM. Ask any specific questions there (otherwise thread may be moved to rooting section) Cheers

Galaxy Ace 5830L - Can't get 3G on my providers network
Hi,
My provider uses 900/2100 and my phone can only pick up the 2G signal which is painfully slow. I've seen workarounds for other phones. Modems, etc. Does anybody have a solution for me?
Thanks so much
Josh

Well i experience this problem if your mobile is on standby you haven't use it few hours it in sleep mode so when you unlock it ( click slide to unlock) you need wait few minutes to let get the system working if you try to use a app while it system is working it crashes shut off. You need install CPU Widget ( i am using slw cpu widget) to see how much it working.
As for i will type & send a a message & it will say failure - you need make sure you have a signal before sending a message and secondly make sure you right settings for your mobile.
I have just got an Ace as a present and have a couple of questions.
1) cannot get it to link to home computer and it keeps saying turn off USB storage. The comp knows it is connected as it will do a virus check on it so the USB cable is fine - please help.
2) need a calendar that allows the frequency of events to include things like fortnightly, every other month, every three months etc, does anyone know of one that allows this?
2) I use the stock calender which I have things set for repeated entrys. In the calender settings make sure its using the Google account one and not the one on the phone
What do you mean about stock calendar? If its the one on the phone the frequency of repeated entries are not varied enough for me. Need one that can Do fortnightly, every other month etc.
Issue with connecting to comp sorted - it was clashing with Nokia software.

If your Ace is running on Froyo then take it to the Samsung customer care and they will update the software with Gingerbread for free and your warranty will also not be void, and above all the battery life will increase.

Using Kies to update does not invalidate warranty. Its the official route to update your handset.

get yourself playerpro or poweramp.
If you want to use factory music player then keep your phone in silent.
Hope this helps.

Create folder called media on sdcard. in that create another one called audio then in that another one called notifications and another called ringtones. Place files in the proper folder and then reboot. Once media scanner has run you'll be able to select them from the sounds menu in settings.
It cant have gorilla glass. It sounds like plastic when tapping in the middle of the screen and already there is a very small scratch on my screen. I barely have the thing 24 hours, let alone that I really have done anything with it. And the galaxy ace is nowhere to be found on the gorilla glass website.
http://m.corninggorillaglass.com/smartphone/ will show you it does. Also look on YouTube for galaxy ace gorilla glass test and watch as a key and knife fail to scratch screen. If yours is scratched get it swapped ......
Hi,
I got a ace on gingerbread 2.3.6, i dont get the fully charged notification anymore (i got it only when it was first charged) i get the notification after i unplugg the charger it says Battery full charged, please unplug charger; but ive already unplugged it??, theres a lag on it now (is this becuase of free mem space of anything)???, it freezes and restarts sometimes???
This sounds like my phone when I had 2.3.6. I think its bugs in the actual firmware. For me the 2.3.3 was better. Although its been a while as I have been playing round with Custom ROMS for ages now.
