Perform factory reset! Everything on the phone delete except the SD card. Or if you need to remove your wife Google account on market app, then clear its data and cache. Likewise you can apply all the apps.

Can you not add a second gmail account, sync that one and turn off sync for the account you don't want to use? Or does that not work?

Go to ‘Settings’->’Accounts & Sync’->’Manage Accounts’ here it will shows you the accounts you have added, tap the account you don’t want to sync it will then show you a menu ‘Data & Synchronisation’ for that particular you can select or deselect particular features. Or at the bottom you can remove the account totally.
Also in ’Accounts & Sync’ you have general sync settings where you can have Background data on or off & also ‘Auto Sync’ function which are global settings. Hope this helps.

I did all that, but the account still shows and so do all the photos I'm trying to remove.
Message says it has to be reset to factory defaults

Did that and there was no option to delete.
These are Picasa Web album and Blogspot photos.

I did a very nervous factory reset and they have gone but I've unchecked all the Google settings, for the time being, anyway!

Thanks for your help
