I think 2.3.6 is being released for s5830I and not for s5830. Can anyone confirm? I'm currently with 2.3.4 in India. Kies shows it's the latest firmware.

Yes 2.3.4 is the currente ver in India & KIES confirms it for me too. But s5830I has never sold in India so why did they make that announcement? Mine is Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830/S (GT-S5830OKAINU)

Are you sure that s5830I is not sold in India? Then why the heck they rolled out the update? Also thru samsung's twitter I inquired and they said 2.3.5 is available for s5830 in India. But that also doesn't come.

But did they specify that 2.3.5 is available for Galaxy Ace. It could available for some other model I think we should hold our horses, in all probability they must have made a clerical error in the model nomenclature.

guys even i checked near my service center they told 2.3.4 is latest version ..dont know what its fools are doing .. staying in gujarat....
Guys does anyone know how to backup messages from galaxy ace to pc ? There is no such option Available in Kies. Very disappointed with this kies. I had another old version but it's samsung new pc studio. I could backup all my messages.

but backups thru this s/w can be restored only to Android phones.

Mean while, I updated kies. As u have posted the snapshot, i think there is some glitch in your update. Try disabling antivirus of your pc and then update kies. It should work fine. For me, it's showing this though i didn't update my firmware yet.

You should try restarting your phone phone, doesent seam to be bsnl problem...
and i checked OTA still no update in India...
Hmm there was a small patch (update) to KIES some days ago. Cool what is the size of the update & how long did it take. I suppose you used WiFi & what are the changes as compared to 2.3.4 in India.

The lock screen is changed to 4.0 style, few changes in icons and mostly the performance is improved... still trying to figure out what are all the changes in 2.3.6.. OTA download size was 14mb, used wifi so it was quick installation took about 10 to 15 minutes...

Is this the right way about going in for the OTA update. Go to Menu->Settings->About Phone-> Software Update. In my case Sign up.
It is the right way.. it is asking you to sign in with your Samsung account... if you don't you can just sign up for one by going to "Samsung account" in "software update" menu.

Hi all, i have upgraded my galaxy ace to android 2.3.6 via phone itself it took 40 mins for up gradation.here are some new features which i want to share.
1.blue colour added at the bottom and top .
2.battery improvement is amazing
3.home screen clock display shifted to bottom.
4.very fast and responsive.
5.new kind of notifications on home screen while msg,call comes.
6.new unlock system
7.fast charging,battery is not getting hot while charging.
8.in the gallery section added zoom in and out icons .but i found something wrong with the pan images its not smooth panning.
9.camera enchantments ,video recording is far better now (great improvement) .

is the any changelog released by samsung for the update?
Did you take backups of all your data sms/contacts/notes/appointments/photos etc. I suppose all that is lost during the update.
Do you have to remove the memory card/sim during this procedure?
You might want to take a back up just in case but you won't lose anything by updating. Nothing needs to be removed either, just go for it! It's an official update so the chance of something going wrong is very slim..
I wish O2 would get the 2.3.6 update out over here!

Updated from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 today. OTA & not thru KIES . Downloaded in less than 5 minutes but the installation took at least 30+ minutes. In fact I was wondering if the update had got stuck midway but it went thru slowly (patience in not my strong point). Like others have mentioned I noticed this (immediately on starting).
1) Home screen clock display shifted to bottom.
2) New unlock system. Can be confusing as there no direction on what to do.
3) No problem (so far) in browsing thru the gallery.
4) There is a slight different in accessing the contacts/sms/logs. Basically the first three buttons frm the left side.
Will update in due course as & when I notice an upgradation/degradation in performance.
@wearethestorm You were right I didn't loose any data But I had taken a backup of everything, just in case

Just noticed that the ringtone for receiving a sms & the delivery report is the same - no matter what ringtone you have applied Bloody inconvenient

When the phone gets charged I do not get s sound notification like in 2.3.4
Has anyone noticed the same? I wonder what the 'Notification' ringtone is used for?
@dhawanmohinish You have mentioned'new kind of notifications on home screen while msg,call comes.' Is this same as what I mentioned in this post? My ringtone for incoming calls has not changed.

Even i bought the same last week. It is 5830i with 832 and 2.3.6.

Battery seems to be really bad. I charge it previous night and without much usage it goes off by evening around 5 or 6.
the battery life will improve once you get a hang of it......5830i in Bangalore, must be a new model, i bought from marathalli Mobile Store in bangalore about 5 months back and i didn't come with an 'i'
