Unhappy Being overcharged for my internet?

Okay so I've had my Samsung Galaxy Ace since Sept/Oct and despite many visits to the Orange shop and many calls to their helpline they say they can't help. It started the first week I got my new phone, twas all fine and dandy until I got the text measure saying I had £0.00 of credit left - I was like 'huh?' because I'd just topped up and my bundles had just been renewed. I phoned up Orange and they said I'd used my 100MB of internet up and the £25 credit (I'm PAYG). So I topped up £10 and no bundles, phoned up and they send me bundles but when I try to check how my much internet I have left the stupid mechanical voice tells me I don't have any! Even though I'm clearly using internet! Now when I bought my phone the guy in the shop mentioned nothing about excessive charges for internet usage yet that's all I get spouted at me when I go to the shop or call them - even though my background data is turned off an as well as my network connections! How can a few minutes of internet usage a day (if that!) eat up 100MB of internet + £10 in a week?! This happens every month. And not only that but I also can't top up on any day except the 19th otherwise I don't get my bundles. Anyway this guy who works for Carphone Warehouse recently overheard my bitching about Orange to my friend the other day and he was the one that suggested I was being overcharged for internet access - apparently this can happen (only rarely) when a SIM is transferred to a new phone (which is what I did) and the network gets messed up or something like that. I just can't understand how they wouldn't have picked up on this problem...

Please help I'm at my wits end , it's easily cost me an additional £100+ to run this phone since I've got it and no one seems to want to help sort my problem. Any reply will be welcomed!

Sophie

If you don't need to use the internet on your phone you could request Orange put a bar on your internet access. But I'm guessing as you get a 100MB allowance you'll be wanting to use it.

Have you set Data Network Mode to deactivated? It should tell you if you hold down the standby button. I'd deactivate it for the time being, then connect to wi-fi so you can browse for free in the Android Marketplace (Play Shop). Download the App "3G watchdog", enter your quota of 100MB and then this will be set to monitor your internet usage.

Then activate data network mode so your 100MB browsing works again and keep an eye on 3G watchdog, if you see it rising up on its own without you even browsing then theres something wrong so you'll need to speak to Orange. The last I knew of Orange their customer service was quite shoddy and will only act upon a forceful complaint, so maybe someone else on this forum can advise you on whether you could request a detailed summary of the usage of all this data and the fees they've charged you (come on 39 views of this thread and nobody can contribute anything!!!)

I don't know the ins and outs of how much of your allowance that widgets take up, if you've got anything on there that alerts you in real time, such as email accounts, facebook etc then they may be eating away at your 100MB every time someone statuses about how much they "carnt wait to eat Nando's OMGZ". 3G watchdog should tell you if they are eating up your data with their nando's and if it is then get rid.
