Default Help Moving installed apps from one SD card to another

Hi Guys

What do I need to do to move installed apps from one SD card to another??

Iím new to the forum but hopefully this isnít too difficult a request! Iím in the process of upgrading my micro SD card from 8gb to a new 32gb card for better music storage Ė and itís proving not as simple as Iíd thought to move my apps across!! Got a standard S5830 running gingerbread XWKPY version 2.3.3

The phone recognises the card ok but so far Iíve not been able to successfully transfer the apps I have downloaded and installed from my old SD card to the new one. Most of the apps are freebies, but there are a few Iíve bought such as Poweramp and I donít want to have to re-install them all Ė and in some cases pay again! But, itís obviously not just as simple as copying them across and expecting them to work!!

I copied everything off my original SD card onto my computer and then onto the new SD card. When I then transferred this into the phone it wouldnít see any of the apps installed on the card and then when I put the new sd card back in the pc a lot of the file content and folders Iíd just copied onto it were missing!!

So, I'm assuming thatthe set up must be more like an intalled programme on a pc, which cant just be copid over onto a new drive and expected to work! But there must be a way?!
Cheers

Paul

Format the new card before copying the content on it.
The sd card apps are stored in the .android_secure folder, make sure to copy that onto the new card.

Just a side note: if you loose the paid apps, you will not have to pay again for them, just use the same google account as before to log in the play store and reinstall them.

Many thanks - the phone wont let me format that card, which is what I originally intended to do (that option is greyed out) but I think the card is the main problem here! It is losing data so something is not right! Teach me to buy off ebay!!

I've gone back to my original SD card for now and re-loaded the Andriod secure folder. The apps work but all my thumbnails have gone and they all have com.xxx in front of their names?

Previous to all this I transferred the apps across to the phone from the old card, then back to the new card thinking that would solve the problem. It didnt, largely due to a duff new card I think.

thanks

H2testw was not impressed with it! I'm organising a new card but meanwhile I've managed to do something not good to my old SD card in that the apps dont appear to be installed properly. Some work, but with no thumbmnail, and other dont seems to be there

I think the only course is to re-install all my apps properly on the old card (thankfully I dont have to pay again for the bought ones) then hopefully when the new SD card arrives it will justa simple case of copying over! Just spent two very frustating nights!! cheers guys

You can format the card from the PC using a card reader if formatting is the problem here.

There is no use if you move .android_secure as it contains part of the app you moved to sdcard...so unless you are rooted and can backup, moving that folder is kinda useless...

This works only for changing the sd card in a phone without loosing the apps, but you can't use this to migrate apps from one phone to another. You either download the apps again on the new phone or make backups using specific apps on the sd card and restore them on the new phone with the same app. But there are some apps have different versions for specific phone models, so those apps will have problems running on the new phone.
