Default +44 being change to 077

I have a contact which starts 078 etc in my phone if we communicate via text using reply option it is fine but if said number creates new message to me the +44 part of the number automatically changes to 0778 etc thus making it a 12 digit number to which i can not reply or call, have tried deleting and re entering contact using both 078 prefix and +44 but it still changes incoming to a 12 digit number starting 077. it's really annoying as if i don't notice i think i have replied and the text isn't sent as number is invalid. Any ideas how i can stop this please????

update on this.. as from today i cannot reply to this number using reply at all, i have to create a new text every time and check the number only has 11 digits and not with the added 7 in it to make it 12 digits grrrr!!!!!!!!!
