Hey to all of you who think this guide is obsolete, it is not!!! I fixed my GT-I5800 with another similar guide. The difference is that this guide has a mistake. The reason most of you aren't getting the # when you type in su is because your phone HAS to be rooted and it has to have superuser installed, it makes sense, doesn't it? Superuser=su so I did it with superoneclickroot download it, anyways, you don't have to root it for the first steps, you can always obtain the nv_data.bin without rooting it, by copying it to the sdcard. Once you extract it from the SD card, just download any hex editor and go to 04a05 and change DA to DB, then save the nv_data.bin file and replace the one on the SD card with this one you edited. Then you HAVE to root your phone and have superuser installed so this is the guide I followed if any of you want to check it out, I can guarantee by personal experience that this worked. The thing is, you HAVE to root your phone!!!!!! HOPE THIS HELPS www. wikihow. com/ Network-Unlock-Samsung-GT-I5800l-Using-Only-Your-Computer

I agree with samu_990.

THIS METHOD WORKS!!!! JUNE 2013

I thought it was impossible after using my whole 2 days off trying to firstly ROOT my i5801, then flash stock firmware, then UNLOCK.

The unlocking part I followed on the wikihow as above.

Follow it to the word, copy&paste the commands and it worked first time!

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT - MY GREATEST ANDROID SUCCESS EVER.

I rooted using ODIN and the cf-root-apollo-v1 (kernel 2.6.32.9 root@ubuntu #20)

Flashed stock ROM build I5800XXJPU (without bootloader) Baseband ver I5800XXJP4

Removed network lock using the ADB & HEX editor method as described in wikihow.

Handset is a Samsung i5801, originally locked to Orange with horrible 2.1 and loads of bloat.

Now it is unlock, unbranded and free of crap.

While I am very poor, and until I buy another S3, this Galaxy 3 will be fine.

I don't think this is a difficult process but z4root and other methods didn't work.

GOOD LUCK!
