Default Unlocking Samsung Apollo by flashing... (Confused)

I brought my brother a Samsung Apollo GT I5801, but it is network locked to Orange (UK), i have asked around my local stores and stalls and the cheapest i was offered to unlock was £25, i tryed paying a sites to unlock this phone for £12 but i got ripped off, now i have tryed using the stick thread which says ti unlock it using ADB but when loading this up in CMD in just says the program isn't responding but then i was told by a friend i could trying flashing the phone, now i have no experience in this at all and ive been reading alot of your forums and some say any phone needs to be rooted before flashing and some say it dont, and i also have no clue what rom i would need to flash the phone with the unlock it (Network Unlock), I have also looked under my phones forum section hence how i found the ADB thread.

Can some please help me as this is quite confusing, as im completely new to this thing, Call me a noob but everyone has to start somewhere.
