This device's version cannot be updated.
Just tried again to update, no luck.
One thing though, my version is different.....
PDA:JK1 /Phone:Jl1 /CSC:JK1
Also it says " The latest version is already installed on connected device "
I wonder why?

I'm getting the same message, with the same version. When did u purchase your phone? I think mine was early november roughly
As I have already tried to explain in the FB Group, yours is a very specific situation (you’ve had the phone a long time – August – and you’re on a contract) it is unrealistic and unhelpful to lead all Europa owners to believe this is the level of compensation that they will receive.
Anyway hope you get on well with you Galaxy S, a nice phone indeed. Watch out for the minor RAM issue, it can rapidly get used if you don’t run the Task Killer App.
Warm Regards
Paul
Paul you need to read more about Android, never use a task killer, that is the official response from the android developers. and as someone who has been using a SGS since launch I know there is no RAM problem, simply poor 2.1 dev.
Just posted this thread Kies v2 and Europa new Firmware Not sure at this point whether it will solve anything or not. Be good to see what other users get?
My kies updated last week 15.3.10103_102 and no new firmware. Just checked for new update and it just says latest version already installed. Seems to be a lack of continuity with people's updates.
Hi, i've had this same problem since christmas and have had two replacement handsets and two sim cards- all to no avail. im on vodafone who basically deny any problem exist with their network or this handset. anyway I think i,ve sorted it out- basically the default sms software on the handset appears to be faulty. I downloaded chomp sms from android and replaced the standard samsung one. this appears to have sorted the multiple text problem at long last. hope this helps....
I have had this problem too but as of yesterday I fixed it! :-) I had to reflash my phone with a different firmware. I opted for Froyo 2.2 or version thereof. Use the following link on how to do that:
and follow the instructions, I have never flashed a phone before and found it really easy to do.
Or the following link will give you earlier firmwares for the Samsung Europa i5500.
Samsung Android. - www.SamFirmware.com the following site you will need to register but if you click on the samsung europa i550 you'll find the roms and the instructions on how to reflash your phone. All the password for firmware roms to extract are samfirmware.com
Be warned though if it does go wrong you may end up with a useless phone. Also take note of how to change the language back to English before flashing and ensure you backup everything on your phone or you'll lose it.
I can 100% confirm that my phone hasn't received a single duplicate text all day from o2 users now.... why wait another month or so for samsung to sort out there sad act. Oh if you use the froyo firmware you'll need to flash it back once the official Froyo 2.2 is released, as you won't be able to do a firmware update through Kies (not that you'd probably want to ever again anyway :-) ) any questions please ask.

This is looking good!
I loaded the KIES 2 software and subsequent firmware update an hour ago, and sent test messages from two other O2/GiffGaff phones that had both been 'repeat text offenders'. Messages received fine and it 'flushed' through all of the other test messages I had sent but not received since 13/01/2011.
Caution: although this has worked for me, the i5500 is not stated as compatible with KIES 2 (although this may be an oversight by Samsung) so back up data etc.
Yeah, I'd second that. I updated the firmware around lunchtime yesterday and so far no duplicate texts. When I did a factory reset a couple of weeks ago, I thought that had fixed it for a couple of days, but it didn't.
I'll report back, hopefully positively, in a few days
What a day! I have been on to Samsung UK and O2 all day! Yes you guessed it, I was ringing in relation to the Multiple Txt Message Issue amongst many other's on this device - Outcome is.... Samsung UK have admitted that, the Kies update will reach 39% of all UK Devices sold but will not reach 61% of devices and are asking all Operators in the UK to advise any Samsung Europa Customers to let them send their device back to Samsung where they can install any required updates. They also went on to say that while some O2 Stores will attempt to update your device, success is so few and far between, it is best to have it sent to them. It will mean you will be without your phone for a week but it should come back repaired.
Mine is going off tomorrow for upgrading - will report back as and when it arrives back!

Loaded Kies 2.0 had to remove the old kies as it showed no updates. but still saying This version of the device can not be updated.
Also V2.0 does seem to have anywhere the functionality of V1.5, it just looks a glorified version of the old Samsung Studio
I just don't get how a piece of software made by Samsung, linked up to a phone made by Samsung can produce such different results. Sorry it didn't work for you Miesc

Rang Samsung this morning and explained the situation. They said to uninstall the old version of Kies (which I had done), install V2 and reboot the pc. If this doesn't work to reinstall V2. Just rebooted and the update came up straight away. Hope it works.

Yes, I did the kies v2 update a few hours ago and, fingers crossed, it seems to be working! I've had loads of o2 texts and so far no repeats!
I deleted the old version, downloaded the new, attached my phone and clicked on the prompt to download and install new firmware. Hope it works for everyone!
I've just bought a Samsung Europa in the past couple of days and also suffer the repeat texting. Updated to the most recent version straight away which at the time was PDA:JK3 / PHONE:JK3 /CSC:JK1
I have just loaded up Kies a moment ago, and there is a new firmware version: PDA:JK3 / PHONE:KA1 /CSC:JK1
I'm downloading as I'm typing, heres hoping to an end to the repeat text problems.
FFS, Im still getting no update and am using Kies 2. When its time for me to change fones I was thinking about a galaxy s, not now, im sick of this crap. Those HTC's look good, ill try the wildfire and see what they are like. The best of luck to ppl this update is working for, i hope it solves this text issue.
Issue not only with O2, Voda I have an unlocked phone 'sim free' put Virgin sim in (which uses T mobile network) since December and never add any issues with the phone, until now getting the same problem as many in this thread. Seams to have started since downloading Advanced Task Killer so just unistalled it to see if it was that. Let you know later. Updated the firmware from 2.1 to 2.1.1 using Kies.
Hi, what you have to do is go back to the store you got it from and ask them to send it to samsung for a software update because its to do with the current software that is installed.

I know thats what some O2 stores are saying, but you can do it yourself and save the hassle.
As Samsung have now hopfully cured the problem would it be worth starting a new thread explaining simply how install the new firmware for the less nerdy out there that just want a phone that works?
I bought my phone a week ago from carphone warehouse. I am on a SIM only contract with Vodafone. Phone has been ok all week and then today I got a text from an O2 phone and it repeated 6 or 7 times. I haven't bothered loading the software that came with it, but if it happens again, it looks like I will have to.
Samsung should test their software properly before releasing it. I won't be buying another Samsung phone.
Please tell me that they don't write software for aircraft systems...!!
Hi ... new member here.
I bought the Samsung Galaxy 5510, which is similar to the Europa but runs Android 2.2 and has a QWERTY keyboard tucked under the screen. I've put my o2 payg sim into it on Friday, and yesterday when I received a message from another o2 user, I have received the same message around every 3 to 15 minutes.
I'm pleased that the Europa seems to have a solution now, but I'd appreciate some advice on where I stand, having a different handset? For the record, I bought it in Germany and I really don't want to return it, I'd like to have the bug fixed. Is it the responsibility of Samsung UK or Samsung Germany to help?
I bought this phone for my daughter via Tesco mobile (O2 network). Admittedly I had read on the forums of the multiple text issue, though had hoped it was resolved. We soon found out it wasn't. I agree it's a very poor show on the retailers for continuing to sell these devices. Tesco mobile referred me to Samsung support (0845 7267864), and I logged a fault with them. I was advised by Samsung that the issue was with the model phone not communicating correctly with the mobile network and they were working on a fix and I would be told when it would be available. They never took my email address, so I assumed they'd call! Well they haven't. Having read the thread about firmware 2.1 update 1 being available I upgraded. First upgrade via KIES just hung. May have been due to my Windows 7 account not being an administrator, so ran it under a administrator account, and it upgraded within 5 minutes. Well now we wait and see. My daughter will soon tell me if she gets multiple texts again, if so, I'll be onto Samsung again.

I can confirm the same as "SteveGad", i spoke to O2 and they said that there engineers are dealing with the issue, but annoying they could not give a time frame.
Oh well will have to see......
sorry to break it to you guys. Anyone calling o2 will get fobbed off with the engineers are working on it but we do not have timescale at this time. does that sound about right?
The reason I know this is cos I work for o2. problem is the issue is only arround for people using the o2 network. anyone on other networks aren't effected. o2 do not active support the galaxy europa because they dont sell it. anyone using one probably got it from carphone warehouse or phones4you. because of this they wont bother looking.
from what i can see its to do with the message centre and how the phone communicates with it. when the phone recieves a text message it should tell the service centre that it as been recieved. in the case of the o2 service centre this isn't happening so the centre just keeps resending. please bear in mind that this is simply an educated guess on what could be happening.
i spoke to someone the other day who had been on the phone to samsung and been told that they are working on a software update for this but is is nowhere near ready yet. think this is probably a fob off again but i'm going to call them myself tomorrow so i'll update tomorrow.
one thing to think about that solved it for someone that posted on another website is to manually update yourphone to android 2.2. this fixes the sms fault and also enables apps2sd without the need for rooting. bear in mind that it may void your warrenty though so be careful.
i post again tomorrow when i've spoken to samsung.

I brought mine from a O2 Store in Essex in late December.

My wife is O2 and has sent me 3 texts and so fa none have repeated!
Welcome to Android Gattancha (only Android since Christmas day myself)....the firmware you mention is the same as the version that solved it for me...so fingers crossed for you!

Reason: Typo
problem is the issue is only arround for people using the o2 network
Reading the forum posts here, I don't think that is true. I am on T-Mobile and suffered the problem but a lot of my friends are on o2, so the problem affects anyone on o2 and anyone who texts to an o2 phone.

The update is out there, I have it. However, it has not arrived to everyone via Kies yet - see other posts in the Europa forum
Lo all, 1st time Android'er here ( I have an Iphone I'm afraid), and I hope this is of use to someone.
My other half needed a cheap new phone and I found a Europa via Carphone Warehouse at a ridiculous price of Ł65 (unlocked as usual) , I was aware of this text problem and she is on O2 but it was so cheap I thought I'll keep it and try out Android as I have wanted too for ages.
Anyway I got it last night downloaded Kies , upgraded the firmware and either I am very lucky ( for a change) or the firmware has indeed been sorted ?

You seem a little uninformed if you work for O2 in the UK - Galaxy Europa is available both in O2 high street stores and O2 Online and has been for quite some time.
Like others on here, I was fobbed off when I contacted O2 and told the issue is with the phone, not the O2 services so I should update the phone using Kies. Samsung were more forthcoming and said it seems to be a comms issue but whilst the bulk of issues are on O2, it does affect other networks and they were working on a fix that would be out by the end of the month.
I haven't been able to test the new update as yet since I bought the phone for the missus as a birthday present and she's not getting it early!
Yep O2 certainly do sell the Europa. Though my understanding from another O2 employee is that they have stopped selling them untill the issue is resolved, but I saw 1 on display for sale in an O2 shop last week.
My Samsung Galaxy Europa has arrived back from Anovo (O2 Repair Center) this afternoon!
You may remember my post last Thursday? If not, In short it got sent away by my local O2 Store to Samsung / Repair Center so that the Fix/Update could be put on my phone.
Anyway - It's now running...
Firmware Version: 2.1-update 1
Baseband Version: I5500ADJL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-perf root@SE-S608 #1
Build Number: ERE27.XWJK3
[/URL]
And just to be sure I had the latest, I hooked it up to Kies 2 which said...
'You already have the latest version'
Current Firmware Version: PDA:JK3 / PHONE:JL1 / CSC:JL1
Latest Firmware Version: PDA:JK3 / PHONE:JL1 / CSC:JL1
Now... has it solved the Text Message Problem?
I am going to say yes for the time being. I will update again in a few days time.
I also have noticed that so far and I have reinstalled everything I had before, same settings as before too - It seems to run a tad quicker!
Thanks WWUK, seems o2 are starting to pull their finger out. Interesting my baseband number is different to yours (i5500XWKA1), but I haven't got a scooby what that means anyway
The Following User Says Thank You to europadroid For This Useful Post:
Just got phone back from O2 repairs which they've had since 10th Jan. Allegedly problem fixed but wife sent me text in shop and surprise surprise repeating texts. Shop then tell me they've had an email with a link to get updated firmware. As they couldn't or wouldn't do it in the shop I now updated at home.
Why this wasn't done while being repaired is beyond me but from what I've seen so far about O2 I'm not surprised.
Same firmware version as earlier posts so keeping my fingers crossed!
ok people,
i bought an "europa" at the weekend without knowing about this text problem and guess what?, I opened the box turned on the phone and guess what?>> repeated texts all night!! so after a row with the carphone warehouse ,for nearly an hour !!, they agreed that I could return it for a full refund!!! result ehh!! so knowing this we decided to try the new update first using kies 2 , to my amazment this has fixed the problem!!!
I was feeling a bit guilty for my ranting down the phone but they do deserve it fOr selling me the phone knowing there are problems!!
I hope this helps someone out there!!!
tataaaaaa!!!!!!
dont know about all the people having problems with updating. My only issue with getting the update was actually updating kies. Because it is a such a crappy piece of software, I everntually had uninstall everything kies-related on my computer and then install the new version... twice! however, when I did get the firmware update it worked a treat and ive had no repeating texts for a few days now

miesc - I to was wondering why Kies (Keys?) weighs in at a hefty 100Meg when there is nothing obvious in it.. oh well
Well still cant Kies to update, still saying ive got newest frimware JK1.Spoke to Samsung Tech and they told me i need JL1 and ive got to go to a Samsung dealer.Im going tomorrow so hopefully they can update the damn thing, if im having this trouble now hate to think whats gona happen when we finally get Froyo.
Tell you what, this Kies V2 is crap, i want the old one back.
