What do you mean, it does not work?
Which app are we talking about here?
If it';s the Nw mode selection shortcut (**583385##) it WILL work 100% of the time. It's from SAMSUNG and came with all the indulges.
Are you sure you're rebootingthe phone after switching modes?

Is the app LTE onoff?
I been using it for over 3 weeks and it seems to work great. Steps that I do 1. disable data connection 2. turn radio off and then on
I am able to make phone calls and receive texts with out having to turn the 4G off again.

This may be covered in other threads, but there is a way to turn of LTE for everthing except MMS. If you are really okay not using 4G at all, then do this:

Download Any Cut from the market
Run Any Cut
Click "New Shortcut"
Click "Activity"
Click "Access Point Names"

This will now put a shortcut on one of your home screens labeled "Access Point Names" (but it's cut off).

Click on that shortcut.

Click on "metropcs" (may be slow)
Scroll down to APN type, click on it and select MMS
Hit menu button, click Save
Hit Menu button, click Exit

Phone will reboot.

Now, phone will not have 4G at all. However, I was able to sucessfully receive an MMS.

Unfortunately to turn back on 4G for non-mms with this method requires another reboot.

And 1x is too slow for me, so I don't actually use this hack, but I figured I'd mention it.

Arr... This pains me. I bumped int o a fried with a galaxy - s. I was telling him how much battery is saved with no 4g searching. I was telling him about the **583385## trick for my phone. Then he tries it and of course it didnt work on the galaxy -s, then he looked at me weird... I said "what"? He pulls up the top bar menu and switches it off and back on.

Come-on, we cant hack this some how? Are there any bounties out for this one.

I agree this phone needs a 4G toggle switch not the anycut or hidden menu one. I don't like having to turn off the LTE radio after every phone call nor do I want to have to restart my phone if I want it temporarily on.

Are there any guidelines or ethics in creating a bounty post? Is this pointless? How does one go about requesting such a thing?

The best I can think of is asking the devs here to please see if they can bless all us indulgers with an LTE toggle maybe ported from another samsung galaxy line phone.

Happy Download Any Cut

Download the app Any Cut and from there go to LTE Functionality Testing and it will place an icon on home page and then you can turn on and off 4G LTE whenever you want to. It's great on saving the battery life.

FWIW, this is something I do bug k0 about periodically. I suppose you could be free to create a new bounty thread, here or in the root sub forum. Hell, I probably would even contribute to that.

DO NOT TYPE IN THE **583385##!!!! I did it and clicked cdma only and turned my phone off. Now it won't turn back on. I called Metro Pcs and they told me it is some sort of virus. Now I'm going to have to go to the store and probably pay for them to fix it!

That is entirely untrue.
If you have a virus, I, and several hundred indulge users can guarantee you it did not come from **583385##
It is very unlikely that you would have a virus on your phone, seeing as android is based off of linux. You may google that up if you want to understand more.
Furthermore, the **583385## shortcut comes from the factory. Unless you are now accusing Samsung of installing viruses on our phones, I don't see how it could be a virus

If you have an issue with your phone, before turning in it to metro, may I suggest you open a thread here on this very forum instead explaining what exactly you were doing and when it started happening? You'll find that we have one of the friendliest forum communities here on AF and more than likely we will genuinely try to help you out.

Of course, you are welcome to join us over on our IRC channel by following this link, so we can chat about it: KottNet Web IRC for #indulge
A small word of warning though, the chatroom's been kind of empty as of late

1) you're the first to fail at this.
2) If you are not comfortable with the side-effects of hacking your phone, why even attempt it? No "official" party ever told you to do this. So as always, do it at your own risk is implied.

Sorry to bump sch an old thread, but there IS a built-in shortcut to the factory LTE toggle. However, I don't remember what it is, and can't find it for the life of me I remember a long-press on the home screen, but I don't remember what I'm looking for, I think I was to select a shortcut? I had it on my phone before, but just FRU'd it out today, so I'm working with a fresh root and fresh install of BASIX on a new phone. Help please? Thanks!

you can use anycut and add LTE functionality test. It doesnt save technically and after receiving or placing a call you would have to turn it off again. I have it turn on intermittently sometimes too.

The best way to turn off 4G witout a restart, and still have it off even after a phone call/txt message involves downloading and app from the PlayStore called "Restart connections"
Then open the shortcut **583385## and select CDMA only mode.
Once you've done that, open the "restart connections" app and it'll cycle through your connections and land you at 3G.
4G will remain off from then on.

NOTES: This process is less succesful the other way around. (it may work 10% of the time, but most likely will fail if you are trying to jump back from 3G to 4GLTE mode).
You may have to open the "Restart Connections" app a couple of times to get it to actually reboot your connections, depending on the 4G state.
If it still can't go through after about 3 or 4 tries, you can manually close the 4G connection using the LTE Functionality Test Shortcut, and then retry restarting all the connections using "Restart Connections"

I suspect some faulty code from Samsung may be why it's required to go through hoops at times to restart all the connections, and requiring an actual reboot to jump back on 4G 90% of the time is only reinforcing that huntch of mine...

I don't care about a reboot, I just want the shortcut I had back on my homescreen that took me directly to the same menu that **583385## takes me to.

Install LauncherPro, and use LP's shortcut maker to find and add the app on your homescreen as a shortcut.
Your default launcher doesn't even have to be LP, it's just that LP's shortcut mini-app picks that hidden menu while Anycut doesn't.

after doing this it will say the action will take effect after the phones next reboot. Reboot the phone and it will now use 1X forever until you go back in there and turn LTE back on.

To turn 4G back on you are going to want to select Enable Global Mode. This will allow LTE and CDMA. If you select Enable LTE only it will turn on 4G but turn off CDMA meaning no phone calls.
Are you recommending this because 4G drains the battery so fast?

- his is the only reason I wanted a 4g off app. Though as it turns out I have 5 spots in the surrounding cities that actually give me a good 4g signal and I have learned to live without it.

Please forgive my noobness, but isn't 4g super fast? Why would you want to disable it?

Because it kills the battery very fast and at times it can even make your phone overheat, so to save battery ppl only turn it on when its needed and off when its not being used.
