Hi all
Anybody know how to get Kies working with the galaxy portal
I got it from Samsung yesterday as its now released for the portal, but it did not work, just like the pc suite that came with the phone
Ya! Just installed Kies. Phone got detected fine. Everything working as it should. Phonebook gets synced, media transfer etc. everything ok. Doesn't yet allow f/w upgrade though.

samsung claims only support Omnia at this moments of time.
For all those who are having trouble recognizing their phone from Kies/NPS/adb...
Unplug your phone from USB and do the following...
If you are on android 1.5 (cupcake) version:
-- Go to... Main Menu >> Settings >> About Phone >> Additional Settings >> (here, make sure "Mass storage only" is unchecked. Make it unchecked if it is not.)
If you are on android 2.1 (eclair) version:
-- Go to... Main Menu >> Settings >> Applications >> Development >> (here, make sure "USB debugging" is checked. Make it checked if it is not.)
That's it! Plug-in your phone again and your device should get recognized fine.

Same problem
I followed the instructions of gurdeep still no luck, kies is not able to detect my device. Getting an infinite message "Connecting to device... please wait"
Samsung might be good in their hardware but they are utter failure in software, Take PC studio or Kies both does not have even a professional appearance. Seems to be a software developed by interns under the guidance of a first time product manager :-)

Please try switching your usb ports while connecting and also keep scanning for hardware changes from the Device Manager. Sometimes the Serial ports acquired by samsung drivers are not refreshed automatically. Wish u luck
Hey all, Kies is working fine for me as well. Flashed to 2.1 (i570EXXJC3) today and I managed to sync my phone when I enabled USB debugging just like Gurdeep.Singh.Mander said. When I had 1.5 it didn't sync.
there is some thing wrong because it will only connect in mass strage mode but mass storage mode is offf so i took the sd card out and now its telling me to put in the sd card
been on the phone to samsung and its only compatible with mass storage mode at this monent in time but they said they are working on it to be compatible with the phone fully

Thanks. That saved time to everyone. Surprised that some claimed to have their phones recognised after simple installation (without flashing, etc.)
Sorry for the bump, but where's this mass storage mode exactly?...
That's 1.
Today I sent it to the service (Hat Romania) and said it had a issue but that they fixed it.It had Android 2.1.It seems it had issues.
I tried the method got-petrol mentioned here(reinstalling drivers)
If you have installed the correct USB drivers then when you connect your phone to your PC, you will see a USB connected Icon on the phone. To See the SD card from your PC, you need to Mount the SD card from the phone.
Menu
Notifications
USB Connected
Mount.
You will now see the SD card and all it's contents as an extrenal drive on the PC. Copy and delete to your hearts content.
If you wish to manage your contacts I'd suggest doing it via your google account, as it's much easier. Just re-sync back to your phone when your finished.
There is in fact 3 forums here all about the same phone.
The GT-i5700 goes by these names depending on where you live.
As regards to why there's Galaxy Lite, Galaxy Spica and Galaxy Portal forums, when in fact they ARE EXACTLY they are all the same phone is probably an error when they forums were set up. It has already been asked to merge these, but word is it's too difficult or too hard, or time consumming to do.

Whn you connect the phone via USB do you see USB connected on the phone notification bar?
Menu
Notifications
Press USB Connected
Mount.
Also I suggest you remove KIES and install Samsung's NPS software.
Hi. When I connet up the phone via a usb cable there is no icon in the notification bar. I've loaded the usb driver from the NPS disc and have PC studio and KIES installed. Can't see the phone at all. Any ideas??
Hi can anyone help me? Whenever i load up kies it disconnects my internet so when it searches for the firmware update it cant find an internet connection. But my phone connects fine to kies. Anyone know how to solve this?
Thanks
Is there any new information about the connection problem with Kies. I have tried everything here, but have had no luck.
Kies worked for the first few weeks, then stopped working when I tried to connect the other day. I had not tried to connect in a week or so, I have no idea of the event that may have broken it.
I also have the Kies-mini. This connects approximately 60% or 70% of the time.
By not connecting I mean I see on my phone the image of a USB connector and it says "connected". I have a USB cable connected between the phone and Windows 7 computer. When I run Kies (latest version 1.3.5), I see the pop-up box saying "connecting the device… please wait", but will never establish the connection. For the first few weeks it connected fine.
I also have mini-Kies. About 60% or 70% of the time it will make it to the second screen showing my phone and saying I have the latest version.
I'm in the USA. I have a Samsung Vibrant. I have no files with long extensions (I have used the FileSearcherforKiesFix program mentioned above). I have unmounted my SD card and reformatted the SD card. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Kies and the drivers several times. I have downloaded and installed the softpedia drivers.
Any additional information? Thanks.
Barry.

everything works except when i want to download and intall apps...it keeps on telling me that the app is not compatible with my phone even if it does..
Hi, I have a slightly different problem. Running Kies v2 with Gingerbread on my S2.
Phone is recognised and i can synch et no problem (even did a FW upgrade via Kies) but...
1) It says that my phone is not supported.
2) If I try to delete or edit anythign on my phone then Kies freezes and I have to use programme manager to quite it.
3) I cannot log into my Samsung account - it says wrong user name or password. But I can log in fine directly from my phone.
tried everything suggested in this forum (thanks for the tips!) and still kies would not connect to my device (samsung note) - turned off my note - plugged it into usb / pc - restarted the note and it connected with kies
The Samsung Galaxy I7500 was the company's first Android phone and the Galaxy Lite will follow in its footsteps by offering a slightly toned down version of the original Galaxy. Although the Galaxy Lite has a 3.2MP Camera with no flash and 1GB ... Read More
