Send your devices to me together with a nice sum of cash (gold and diamonds also accepted), and I will update it for you and ship it back (probably)

Anyway,I'm so sorry for your loss (for not living in norway). But if there is only the update you are longing for, then I for one would probably not move to norway.

I only hope you get the official update soon!!

Rivisio: Really? Mid June!? *insert long winded "No"*

I'm trying really really hard not to try and root my phone regardless but I bought an extra 3 year warranty on mine (and it does say in the terms and conditions) that if I root my phone it'll void that warranty. Suppose its my fault for jumping into the "pond" without checking to see what was going on with android - of course had Bell decided to replace my phone instead of extending their "loyalty date" by another six months I wouldn't have this issue.

You can download some demo games but I guess if you didn't do it before it might be difficult to see any 'difference'.. but have a go with raging thunder. See if it can even render the cards. Before i found that it couldn't even render the graphics. Now it can. Still not perfect but much better.

In Slovenia the official update is the JD1. The official Samsung Service Center updates to that firmware. Has anyone tried the JD4 firmware? What are your opinions about it?

Seems to be not too much different. 3d does seem better but could be my imagination on second thoughts. The whole thing IS a little faster though it seems. There is no 3d gallery and the gallery app seems slow still. Have you managed to put the 3d gallery on?

hmm .. the movie player seems different, but just cosmetically. I wonder why they make these different versions if they are installing one version on the phones.. Not tried google maps but that updates by itself anyway when you go into the marketplace and click on downloads it often says updates available..

Apparently you have installed the JD4 version, not JD1. But it seems to be built on JD1. How is it?

Well, they've DM'd me back and it doesn't look like the stores are doing the updates yet...

Quote:
we haven't released it yet for the Portal, so I wouldn't think T-Mobile stores could offer that. Will try to get an update tomorrow
Still, there's hope for an update (to the news, not the phone!) tomorrow...

Megs: Yes, I was told that the magic is receiving the update the first week of June than after that the other compatible devices will get it as they're tested 1 by 1. Sounds gay to me, but thats what the guy from Tech Support said when I talked to Rogers.

I have an All-In-One Rar file with JD1 and odin. I'd be happy to put it somewhere for people to download.

File is 85Mb.

RAR content:-
I570EOXEJD2-CSC-MULTI-CL263367.tar
I570EXXJA1_CL132638_Bootloader.tar
I570EXXJD1_Phone.tar
I570EXXJD4_CL273309_PDA.tar
Odin Multi Downloader v4.03.exe
spica_jc3.ops
SS_DL.dll

All you need to do is run odin, and add the above tar's to it.

PM me for rapidshare link.

This firmware is for Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom Spica/Portal/Lite users ONLY.

You install at your OWN risk.

N.B. YOU WILL LOOSE PORTAL Branding, and phone will be shown as Galaxy Lite. You may also lose some default apps that came with your phone. Re-install these from Market place.

Patience is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. It is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast. :-)

Your Patience level is high, really appreciated.

This is actually a pretty good idea. There's a Samsung service centre at the top of Princess Parkway, opposite the Fosters brewery in Manchester. I wonder if they'll do it for me...?

Me too. Much Longer. Also a program called TODO which is part of the NPS installation requested internet access during the process - this never happened before. Just ends up with can't connect to server message so far I have tried 4 times and haven't had the usual "No upgrade necessary" message.

Maybe something is happening - or maybe we are clutching at straws....

I think because it's actually checking. 1.3/4 simply goes straight to server error for me.

Same for me and dropping to a command prompt and running netstat while it's trying shows a connection to "unknown.level3.net" - 4.68.95.11.

So T Mobile/Samsung might be lining up the update server. Level3 supply all kinds of services for delivering content on behalf of large corps'.

Here's hoping :-)

Back to normal today - quickly goes to "No update necessary". Excitement over.

I have decided to go down the Odin route next week if no positive news in the meantime.

I'm with you on that. I got the ROM from Beercan (thank you very much!) so just going to wait for another week or so and if no news, I'll flash with that ROM.

I have posted in the flashing guide thread about a problem I have with Odin that no one seems to have answered. I don't want to hijack this thread with my problem, but how do I get Odin to show details on the COM port bit? Mine is completely blank but Win 7 recognises that the phone is plugged in (it shows in device manager)

I think I may have some bad news for UK users...

I just called Samsung again on the off chance that they may have some more information that T-Mobile aren't telling us.

I queried with them that a press release came out many weeks ago that said the update was out and that it would be rolled out to Germany first then the UK etc but the Phillipines have it, Norway has it, the Germans have it and so on and the advisor said that Samsung management were aware that the UK don't have it yet (other than on 3) but the update process for the UK is much more difficult than in Germany due to the way the networks in the UK work.

She said the Germans have something called Home which prevents phones from working on one network only so its easy for the user to update the phone and for Samsung to roll it out.

So I asked when the UK would get it and she said that nobody knows yet, but because of the differences between the UK and the rest of Europe, the update can only be done in the UK by an engineer and can't be done at home by a user!!

I don't know how true this is (probably bollocks but you never know!) but if it is an engineer only update for the UK I'm definitely going down the Odin route.
