Whenen Samsung finally (if ever!) get thier act together and release the new OS for this phone, what are the chances of it getting Mobile Flash support?
Or is Mobile Flash still in the development stage?
Yeah this is what I'm waiting for, I heard it would be on the next upgrade, but I really don't think it will be, as they carn't even get there software to work, chances of them getting somthing decent to work would be zero I think
Stroll on 22 months when my contract finish's.

Upgrade available in UK?
This page provide instruction to upgrade the Galaxy portal. I tried to download NPS as per the instruction. Quite surprisingly NPS installation file is quite different from the one listed under support page

Even the new NPS 1.5 doesn't detect i5700. How am I supposed to check for update when phone itself is not supported???
Even new Kies doesn't detect my phone!!!!!!!!!!
Have installed NPS 1.4 still no success.. m still getting the message .. Device is not supported BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH .. Although my device got detected instantly ..

Even new Kies doesn't detect my phone!!!!!!!!!!
Uninstall EVERYTHING Samsung related using Control Panel > Remove program (do not remove drivers for your monitor if that is a Samsung model).
Then reinstall NPS, then the driver and try to connect your phone once this is complete. You may have more luck with the computer recognising the Lite/Spica/Portal after doing this.
It works for me, but I have to uninstall everything and reinstall each time I want to connect thephone to my Win 7 PC. Not great, but at least it kinda works!

You need not to reinstall everything each time, you reinstall drivers every time to resolve this issue. If you installed your application at default location then navigate to
C:\Program Files\samsung\Samsung New PC Studio\USB Driver
and install it again.
At least for android platform NPS is just a Junk.

I've tried at least 5 versions of NPS downloaded from various samsung sites, and I've got one that finally recognizes my spica(1.3.0 something.. I'm at work atm can post later). No updates ready yet though (just various error msgs).
here's one that seem specific for the spica though, didn't work for me, but maybe for others :

If I don't reinstall it just doesn't work. Already tried what you suggested.
I get "Samsung Android Device" and "USB modem" which doesn't let you do anything.
I got my Galaxy Portal as an exchange for a faulty SE C905. I love the Portal but the support is awful and I now wish I'd waited another couple of weeks before pestering T-Mobile and I could've got the HTC Desire instead
got some more news from samsung and its not looking good
this is what i asked
how can i update my galaxy portal i5700 with new pc studio when it will not connect to the server this is all i get ive been trying for hours ==============================
At present the update is not available, there is no update server for the phone to connect to. Unfortunately I can not give a date when this will be available.

I just don't get it!!
All the tech news sites are reporting that it is available now after receiving a press release from Samsung. Yet Samsung tell its customers that it isn't available and there is no date yet set for when it will become available.
Are they saying in the reply there that they don't yet know when it will become available or are they saying that they do know but they have decided not to tell anyone?!

Eclair manuals are up on the UK site as kingdave pointed out, hopefully that means that a release isn't far up. The problem is that when you call Samsung the people you are calling are mainly for basic questions and they wouldn't know much about when the i5700 is getting an update. But T-Mobile said April a while back so I don't know if it'll be out before then .
Don't worry, it is coming to the UK however we don't know exactly when. However, I think for my next device(in 17 months ) I will go to HTC as they seem to offer fantastic customer service on all their old and new devices.

You people, just just be patient. The update will come eventually, otherwise there would not have been that much firmwares leaked from Samsung.
You are right patience is the key when we go for a handset from companies like samsung who release a software which doesn't recognize their own handset. Do they have a Q-team inside the organization?
Anyway I bought it in india without any tie-up with carrier and it cost only 12400 INR which is equivalent to 202.3 euro or 273 USD($). This help me to dispose it any time through ebay.

Do you have any idea since when the HTC Hero users are waiting for 2.1 update? Or other users with other devices?
As far as i know, the only phone that got an update to 2.1 is the Nexus one and it got the update from 2.0 to 2.1.
As for the disposing, you can do anything you want. Nobody stops you, it is a free world .

I didn't mean to dispose out of frustration. I meant to say that i do not have carrier tie-up(=freedom) and this device is the cheapest capacitive device available in india so that i will get a good resale value(=opportunity) currently.

Reason: spell

This is true. I also got it because it was the cheapest device i could find with that specifications. And i am really happy with it.
Anyway, i am keeping an eye on the german forum, and on the update business and i will let you know as soon as something changes
This is exactly why I kept my iPhone, why I love my iPhone and gave my Spica to my girlfriend!
Whenever an update is coming from Apple, I get it right away. And I can actually download paid apps without rooting the phone og support pirating (I live in Norway, and Market only have free apps here).
Yes, iPhone has its problems to, and is kind of a closed solution, but everything works as announced, and the device + os gives me more presicion.
When software and hardware's not built for eachother this kind of things can happen, sad but true!
android market not giving you paid apps has nothing to do with samsung tho
I myself am also missing the option to get paid apps (Belgium)...
The only major downside for me about the spica is just this, the PC software
(that and a somewhat slow tilting)
Well you will be happy to know, that once 2.1 comes the tilting is much snappier and the phone is recognized with kies, so you can copy files to the phone and sync calendars or whatever you want to do with it.
Personally I don't know what use does the pc studio have even if it worked properly? I have my contacts, calendar and everything else in the cloud, and if I want to transfer files I just take the sd card out and stick it in my computer.
As to the paid apps problem I'm sure google will eventually make it possible to download them in any country. While waiting for that to happen the net is floating of them.
And by the way comparing the spica to iphone doesn't even make sense since it's more than twice the price, even though the hardware is pretty much the same.
I have been reading this forum (and others) regarding upgrade to 2.1 for some days now.
I am also eagerly waiting for 2.1 to come but then let's not forget that 1.5 isn't too bad. I have simply fell in love with Android. Lots of awesome free apps and a wonderful User Experience.
so just enjoy and wait for the upgrade to come... then enjoy more with a new experience []
But how do I connect to some particular Tor Relay from Tor? I can get the Relay IP but I can't find the port number from the description. Basically I have to use both IP & Port to connect to SOCKS4/5. Also, is it possible to tunnel traffic through some particular relay from within Tor itself? Any Idea?

well... Tor is tricky a little bit did you try to find your answers in its docs?
i'm pretty sure that it is possible to decide whitch Tor Relay to use yesterday i'd managed to use German and French one
if you look one any of the samsung sites there no update yet to update to as its not been put on yet. we got to wait untill It get put on the samsung sites that's why it will not connect to the servers
The Following User Says Thank You to andy-roid For This Useful Post:
Well I did go through local docs but couldn't find anything useful on how to use some particular relay from list of relays. May be I had overlooked something.
Well, that sounds cool, will give it a try. Thanks.
Convinced. This seems to be least required to even fool NPS. The reason why I wanted to give it a try, I heard someone from Germany having success upgrading ... at some forum I guess I landed earlier
with all the logistics behind getting the phones to a store, i doubt they'll have it if their release version wasn't finished atleast for over a week or 2

From now owners of the Samsung I5700 Spica Galaxy offers the latest Android release for free download. So far, the phone worked with the restricted 1.5-OS (cupcake). The update to the modern 2.1-platform (Eclair) provides better performance and include additional camera settings.
How, where
The fresh firmware is theoretically loaded on the new PC Sync to the Galaxy Spica, which lies on the manufacturer's website. In practice, the update but not quite as simple - the experts of the CHIP mobile world have tried it.
Next silent on Samsung's support site that an update on Android 2.1 is present for the Galaxy Spica. In addition, the update works better on the program, PC Studio ', which is also available for downloading. In addition, the direct reference is missing, the cell phone store data as a backup on your computer.
Camera: Much more comfortable. Known how
Before the update be noted that the cell phone under "Settings - Information" uncheck "Only as a mass storage" and disabled "USB debugging" under "Applications" / "development" is checked. Cell phone via USB cable to connect to the PC, open PC studio - and ... During the first update procedure fails, run smoothly with our review sample, the second attempt. The new firmware is downloaded and unpacked.
When the software finally starts to install the update again Spica, the phone will restart automatically and the only option for mass storage enabled - our Windows XP machine reports a new mass storage. Shortly thereafter, informed us the PC Studio software that would not connect to the phone over and now would have the option of "disaster recovery" using the PC Studio. There is after all the instructions to remove the battery to be reinstated and the Spica turn with a special key combination again. Big sigh of relief: It is now easily contain old update.
First impressions
Immediately after the fall update us on some pleasant news. This allows the keypad to resolve more quickly and directly from standby to activate and deactivate the silent mode. The Android keyboard responds better for our taste. Essentially the camera options have been improved and provided with numerous new features. Thus, the digicam is now fairly intuitive to use. (fgo / wh)
so its out in germany going to try mine i bet it will not work
update
no its not been put on the english server yet but it means theres light at the end of the tunnel and the update is comming soon

I think we have something! 25 minutes ago on www.samsung-firmware.webs.com Dante put this firmware I570EXEJC1, but I guess it is still some experimential version...
The Samsung Galaxy I7500 was the company's first Android phone and the Galaxy Lite will follow in its footsteps by offering a slightly toned down version of the original Galaxy. Although the Galaxy Lite has a 3.2MP Camera with no flash and 1GB ... Read More
