Hi,
Is there a way to stop the SMS notification tone upon receiving the message ? I use Handcent SMS and if the phone is locked, the tone keeps on till the I bring down the notification bar.

Sometimes when in a discussion I want to be able to stop the SMS tone from continuing buzzing while I am trying to open the message. I do not want to put it on Vibration or Silent mode. My old Sony Ericsson used to have this feature that if I press the volume button it will stop the voice of the incoming call ringtone or sms tone.

Any idea ?

Thanks for the reply Gurdeep, however this is not what i want.

Maybe my question is not very clear in the first place.
I do want to be alerted of a new message with the SMS tone however I want to be able to shut the sms tone down when it is playing.

Currently it only stops when I bring down the notification bar. As I said it was very easy to press the volume button on my SE

I am having the same issue. Once the sms custom rintone starts it won't stop till the length of the song is done. With past phones like my bb, once you hit any button it was smart enough to realize you reacted to it and it shut up. haven't found that smart button on this phone yet lol.

Perhaps you could try this.

I have TasKiller permanently running as a widget on the desktop. Each time I run an app, when completed/ finished with that task I press the TasKiller Widget, which closes the task and continually frees up memory.

In your case, press the TasKiller Widget to stop the Ringtone.

You can exclude which tasks the TasKiller widget will close, for example I always leave GTalk and HelixLauncher running.

To exclude a task, run the main TasKiller App and press and hold on the icon of the program you wish TasKiller to ignore.

TasKiller is free, and available on the Marketplace.

I would suggest the easier compromise to be merely shrinking down your tune to 2-3 seconds, so you won't have to stop it.

Why is this not fixed yet!!!! All the things this phone can do. Yet simple stop notification tone with push of external button cant be fixed! It's the only thing about my phone I don' like.
