Jobs would never allow the announcement to be delayed. You know him and Cook had that conversation. On his death bed he probably grabbed Cook by the collar pulled him in real close and said "You cancel this announcement I'll haunt you for life"
Apple is using Steve Jobs death as a sales pitch and they are running with it.

It's still in Beta? Wow. They made such a huge deal about it at the unveiling. . .I thought Google Voice was just phone and text. Does it have an assistant like Siri?
I know there are a lot of people that could use it. In my case, it'd be more of a gimmick than anything else. I just don't like talking to machines.
REMEMBER: Siri was about the same as it was shown in the video, well before 2010 when Apple bought them. It ran on all flavors of iPhone. That is until Apple pulled it from the AppStore to "innovate" it into the OS. My 3Gs has less functionality now.
It was awesome to be able to say "reserve an italian restaurant for 6pm" and have it fire off a reservation with opentable. But now I can't, unless I pitch my 3Gs for a 4s...
Really the best feature they demo'd was AirPlay mirroring -- any app can go on your TV. It was also the worst feature as it only works with AirPlay (ie Apple TV) and not dLNA. Hopefully we see some dLNA goodness in Ice Cream Sandwich. Apple TV is a marginal product and Apple is using its smartphone dominance to make people buy it.

...found this on the web - file it under the "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm...." category:
Google and Samsung just postponed the launch of a device for a reason that is completely unrelated to themeselves. The companies did this while Apple itself didn't skip a beat and continued on with its own plans, announcing the iPhone 4S likely while Jobs was on his deathbed (and they all knew the end was near), and began pre-orders on Friday. Wouldn't you think if any company should postpone a launch, it would have been Apple, not Samsung?
Of course. I recently read somewhere (Jobs Offered Google CEO Advice, Says Larry Page - Search Engines - News & Reviews - eWeek.com) that when Larry Page took over for Google in April, Jobs actually called him (while obviously sick) and offered some friendly advice. Some executives from both Google and Apple are close friends despite being competitors. Despite this, Apple never held back from bashing Google as "fragmented" and Google never held back from bashing Apple as "closed". Nor did it stop Apple from filing lawsuit after lawsuit against Google's top manufacturers and vice versa. Business is business.
The reason for the delay in announcement is definitely NOT because of SJ's passing. Yes, it's sad. His funeral was last week. Are the news cycles and online blogs still blowing up with news and editorials about SJ's death? Not really. It definitely is not to the degree that it would overshadow Google's announcement, by any means. Motorola just announced that the RAZR is coming. Is anyone calling them evil devils that aren't respecting SJ? Nope.
Something else is up. VZ_wired himself (herself) said that there was more than 1 reason, and kind of pointed to ICS.

well, then you're gonna have to toss me, too. you know i've been keeping my eye on both these devices, even tho i figured the Spyder wouldn't be out until late Nov or early Dec. now it's looking like it might be here in a couple weeks! i gotta give this device a serious look, especially if there's a chance of an unlockable BL.

as has been stated, it's a qHD SAMOLED screen - supposedly something "never before seen" on a phone. Panda described it as better than Bionic, but not quite as crisp as a retina display. it should be a pretty big step up from previous Moto devices.

I think Samsung would benefit if they released the Prime without ICS and release a statement saying Prime will be the first device to receive the ICS update.

The curved glass will mean a greater degree of privacy when viewing the screen. I have not heard that one.
That sounds like a nice way of saying "Hey guys, viewing angles on this phone will _suck_!" We'll see what it'll look like when it finally launches.
Generally, I gotta say I'm psyched about this phone. I've been holding on to my iPhone 3G for way too long and was going to jump for the SII (great reviews, but only WVGA...) or the Sensation (seemed solid, yet overall not as good as the SII) when I found a there's a new Nexus device coming up "soon". Since I'm buying it at full price (no reason to get locked up in a contract, prepaid is just fine), it'd be great if it got updated to at least Jelly Bean (or whatever comes after ICS), so I figured Google phones are the way to go. (Yes, rooting/flashing would be another option, I know.)

I have been limping along with my OG Droid for two months now & have decided no matter what the next phone on the horizon was, I was getting the Prime. I have been counting, days-seconds until 10-11 and now the announcement has been pushed back again To add insult to injury, I told myself I did not care if the next greatest phone was a little faster, or had a slightly bigger screen, or whatever, this is the one. Now Moto drops that the RAZR is Gorilla Glass and Kevlar.... Awww man you gotta be kidding me. that sounds sweet. A trick phone that's rugged and thin. If the Prime is Vanilla, it might still have the edge.
That's it I'm going to activate a old Dare I have bnib sitting at home and drop off the edge of the smartphone world to save myself the stress of decisions I just cant take anymore. This sucks

If the Nexus and the RAZR are released within a few weeks of each other, I'm going to wait until I can compare them side by side...and compare reviews. I don't think that waiting a couple of extra weeks will kill me, even if I am using a Curve currently.
It's true that usually waiting for the next best thing doesn't pan out, but with so many great phones due by the end of the year, what's the harm?

Welcome aboard the crazy train, Blackbriar. I'm majorly psyched about this phone, too. I'm just trying not to get myself TOO excited to where nothing will be good enough.
Also, I think that being in the "real world" yesterday all day kind of made me realize that this is just a phone, in the grand scheme of things. I make a big deal about watching HD movies, reading ebooks, etc., but in real life I don't do that every day or for very long.
So I'm just hoping that I'll be very happy with whatever I get, and that I will be content.
Unlike the Bionic owners, if they pay any attention to the tech news.

Kevlar sounds sweet, especially if you drop your phone a lot. (will that protect it from getting scratched up, or just from breaking?)
Touting its Gorilla Glass, though, is a little gimmicky. Most phones nowadays do. It'd be like saying the latest Corvette has tempered glass.

Guys, I'm getting worried that with all this processor speculation, etc., we're hyping up this phone to epic proportions, and all we're doing is setting ourselves up for severe disappointment.
Whenever this thing is released, and we all flock to Verizon or Best Buy or wherever, and we put up a thread called "So I got my Nexus!", I'm worried it will be filled with posts consisting of "This is it? I waited all this time for this?"
Problem is, this already happened once the phone came about. People are letting their actions dictate their thoughts. Is a 1.2 processor really that big of a difference vs 1.5? no. I laugh when you have people over clocking i7's for what reason? To get 137fps over 133fps in a video game? Or to do a task 2 seconds faster? Its the same concept if apple were to label a bag of crap with their infamous logo. People will buy it, regardless.
In three months people will be regretting getting the prime. It's not like the PC industry now where it's ok if you have a product for more than a year without upgrading. The technology is so new in phones we're living in the hayday of PC components. Ride the wave, folks.

No, that's not true.
First point - it gets HD resolution 1280 x 720, it's about twice more than WVGA. So, you can now imagine how will it influe on performance. We want it to be the best, flagship Android phone, to highly compete with Iphone, to finish Apple's pride, and to make it realy useful. Believe, even with 1.5 GHz, it won't be better than old SGS II, which is half-year old, indeed.
I think it would compete with iPhone ONLY if it gets more than 1.5 GHz clock, it maybe would help. In other way, it is defeated. And that's what I'm afraid of.
That's right, my friend.

Interesting idea. Possible, but I don't think they'd want to have to validate GB on the phone at this late date after having spent so much time developing ICS. Maybe the delay isn't ICS; maybe they're just hoping 4460 attains 1.5GHz before launch.

If you have a cheap contract extension available you might as well use it to save some $$$ up front, unless you expect to switch carriers and have a huge early buyout fee.

I would take an unlocked Prime over a locked Spyder/RAZR anyday.
It comes to a point where improved specs are merely incremental until software development can catch up.
That being said, if Prime is delayed until next year and Spyder is around the corner, that's a different decision to be made. My Incredible is on its dying legs (constantly rebooting), so I will probably only last until November before upgrading. I was banking on the Galaxy 2 to come to VZW and have been saving my upgrade since July, but have restrained myself from going to the Bionic (thankfully). I can't wait forever, though.
But yeah, head-to-head, I'd take the Prime at this stage of the game. Something tells me Samsung is going to announce it, then release it very shortly afterward. If they announced it now, it'd give Apple all the time they need to look over the hardware/software and prepare a legal battle to stop its sale.
Joy.

Even if they announce Razr on 10/18, it won't be released until late Nov. Personally I don't see anything would sway me to it from Prime. qHD SAMOLED pentile screen, 1.2Ghz OMAP 4430, gingerbread, locked boot-loader, Blur UI, etc. It's not really on par with Prime, more like slightly improved Bionic.

Top 5 reasons why the Nexus prime could be delayed;
1- Steve Jobs death
2- Hardware problems
3- Problems with ICS OS
4- Legal issues
5- Samsung and Google are parting ways....
Pick one....
ok, im being 99% sure that this isn't the reason for their delay, but maybe samsung and google noticed how the leaked specs were disappointing for many of us / many of other forums / many of those who waited for it, and we're afraid that their announcement would be a 'fail' the the iPhone 4s announcement has been, so they decided to upgrate their hardware specs and postponed their announcement...
in this case the nexus prime given to the romanian techsite was real and the bgr-specs as well, but GSMArena mentions a tipster from inside google, so maybe that one has got the new hardware plans for the NP..
i know this sounds not very likely and also ridiculous, but it's possible, isn't it?

You mean it's not on par with the Prime you dream of? We have no idea what the Prime will be. It could very likely have the same processor and it's rumored to have a HD pentile screen as well.
And why would it take them over a month to release the Razr? Typicaly when Verizon has a release announcement the phone is only a couple weeks away. If anything since we have no release information at all for the Prime it could be the end of Nov. That is if it's even coming to Verizon since all we have on that is rumor too.

i don't think so... in my opinion the galaxy s3 has to have quadcore, qualcomm and nvidia will be offering quadcore q1 2012, so i don't see any reason why samsung won't...
but if this is in fact true, the original exynos 4212 is clocked @ 1.5GHz, the SGS3 is listed with an exynos 4212 clocked @ 1.8GHz, so there's the chance that we'll see other devices coming with the exynos 4212 clocked at 1.5GHz (as the original one was announced)... NP?

Is it possible? Yes. But not if it's coming on 11/3. I have to imagine that they've got at least hundreds of thousands of these already built and ready to ship if they're going to release it both here and in Europe (Vodafone) on 11/3. They're not going to just scrap all of those because we're throwing a hissy fit on the blogs regarding a processor that no one has ever even tried before.

Yes, if you can reduce the time it takes to render some complex scene from an hour to 45min, or speed up some complex analyses from 8hrs to 6hrs, then the overclocking could give a healthy increase in productivity.
And not everybody is gaming on low-resolution monitors, so maybe overclocking the CPU and/or GPU means the difference between playability and a slide show on someone's beautiful 30" LCD. Not to mention, maybe they have an older system and can't afford new hardware, so the only way to get decent frame rates is by overclocking.
