It will be LTE, 32GB model, 1850Mah battery, coming with OS version 4.0.2. The most critical bugs have already been fixed and price will be $299 on contract and a little over $600 off contract. Verizon will make the annoucement the day of the sale and there will not as much marketing with this phone as with the Droid RAZR and HTC Rezound.
I cannot state anymore than this so everyone please take this as you will. I hope this information proves useful to some of you.

Nope. You only need to unlock the bootloader if you are going to install things such as kernel updates, or ROMS that are based off of a completely different bootloder.
Most Verizon moto phones have locked encrypted bootloaders, yet we still have root on them.

Short and sweet: they don't. There might be some anecdotal examples from folks who work at VZW, or authorized re-sellers, but no one knows how the RAZR is doing nationally, because VZW hasn't released that information.
Rooting is typically done by exploiting a security hole in the OS.
If you unlock the bootloader, you can introduce your own "security hole" and obtain root that way, or write an entire new system image with root baked in.
However, root is available for a whole lot of devices via one-click methods, which universally don't require an unlocked bootloader. One-click root methods are rooting methods that have discovered a vulnerability in the OS and use that to elevate privileges and obtain root access.
So - no, you don't have to unlock the bootloader to obtain root necessarily. WITHOUT an unlocked bootloader, though, someone has to discover a vulnerability in the OS in order to root.

No new info. The vzw support guy left a cryptic message on Twitter that some of us took to be a sign. We were wrong. I felt toyed with.
Yeah I saw your tweet earlier. I hadn't seen where they had say we will see the info there first earlier, so I didn't take their tweet that way last night. I am actually not too upset with Verizon today, connectivity issues are one of my most sensitive issues... If that was the cause of the delay, I am somewhat ok with that.

Currently, My Verizon doesn't need a rooted device to be removed. That may be changed in the GNex. My Verizon also doesn't consume any backup resources, so I'm not sure peoples aversion to it. However, I have heard that Verizon is doing some pretty signifigant updates to it, so it does a lot more than just telling you your account status, so maybe it will end up a resource hog. But right now, it's just a tiny app that only runs when you use it (and I admit, I do find it useful).

With my Droid X there is sooooo much Verizon Crap loaded onto it that I can't remove unless I Root (Amazon Kindle, Amazon MP3, VZW Apps, Amazon Appstore, Backup Assistant, Blockbuster, City ID, Madden NFL 11, My Verizon, NFS Shift, Skype Mobile, VZ Navigator). It just pisses me off. It's more about principle to me now. It's fine if they load things on there, but let me delete them if I don't want/use them. I have Never ever used even one of their preloaded apps.

Rooting and unlocked bootloader are two different things. Rooting allows for root (superuser access) to the filesystem, which is what (almost) all devices have. Unlocked bootloader allows for you to flash unsigned images (kernels, custom ROMs, etc) to the device with ease.

Amazon App store is not bloat to me. I have it on my Dinc. Free apps of the day make it worth it to have that app. I also like Amazon MP3 on occasion too. The rest are ridiculous.
Here's the REAL question though. How much more per device would you be willing to pay to have a "BLOAT FREE" phone?
Is it worth $25 more per phone? $50 more per phone?
Kinda cool, it uses the barometer to cloudsource information, supposidly for weather forecasting. not sure how useful it will actually be, but thought it was kinda cool.
I think I may have to develop my own app for this phone. I have the perfect idea for a program that needs use of a barometer.
Niche market for sure, but could be worth a few pennies.

not sure who you are to "guarantee" a release before dec 13. perhaps a PM to one of the thread mods that they can post with XXXX over personal info as they have done in the past would be a better option. but i could create a new user name and make my first post one of these. real easy.

I like the QWERTY, as the days go by, the Droid 4 is looking better and better (if it releases on the 8th and the SGN does not). If it weren't for the "reference phone" thing and NFC, I would have a ReHound.

The only way to install Amazon appstore is to turn off "allow installation of market apps only" checkmark in the settings.
Commonly called sideloading, since you are installing a program that's not in the offical Android Market.

Yeah they had a weather expert kind of debunk the barometer use for that. because you are moving with your phone a lot, the change in altitude will have a much greater affect than the change in atmospheric pressure over time, and spoil the results badly.

I'm glad you brought up the barometer. I've been meaning to get the feedback of the community on this one.
What benefit is a barometer on a phone to me? I can't imagine using it. I don't predict the weather, I have Weatherbug for that.
