So I read your guys' convo a bunch of pages back. I'm curious as to why everyone who expressed an opinion said that a star wars virgin definitely has to start with episode 4. I'm not convinced that he/she should start with episode 1 or 4; I think it can go either way - sequence of release or chronological order.
I find it hard to believe that no one has said this, but you have to watch it in order of release because of Empire Strikes Back. Anyone who is deprived of that moment has missed out on one of the greatist moments in cinema, and anyone who deprives a Star Wars virgin of that moment by suggesting watching them in cronological order should be beaten to death with a toy lightsaber.

Well, I guess opinions will vary, of course. But in my opinion, the Star Wars saga is less about the rebels vs. empire, Luke vs. Vader, Han and Leia, etc. It's really about the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker and how that character was resolved.
Staging the story in such a way that you see this evil incarnate-type person, and then showing you how he was once good and that he was never "all evil" or "all good", just makes for thrilling discovery. The tragedy scene in Episode III is the centerpiece of the entire saga, and it should be viewed as the climax.
But that's just my take.
I think that theatrical release is the best way to watch it. If Lucas wanted you to see Ep I - III first he would have released them in that order. Start with IV - VI. Then watch the next cruddy trilogy, IMO only thing good was EP III and Jengo Fett. I honestly think the Clone Wars cartoon is better then the EP I and Ep II.
I agree it could go either way, but that's not the way we had it back in my day LOL (insert old geezer voice).
Besides, if they had released Epsiode 1 first, I seriously doubt it would have had the same effect as 4 did on the populace. Let's face it, 1 is pretty long, drawn out, and kinda blah.
4, while not perfect, completely captured a great story in a single movie. Combine that with (at the time) eye-popping visuals that STILL look good today, and you have an all time classic.
I vote for theatrical release order. And am still shocked that BB has not seen ANY of them!?!
When 4 came out we had never seen anything like it before. I can remember just sitting there and my mouth open thinking how many times i was going to see it. I had read the book before the movie which made it even better.

All very possible, the announcement cant be any later then this week though. Any later and they miss out on a lot of holiday sales. I am hopeful for an announcement tomorrow. It jives w/ what we have found today, how VZW has operated in the past and makes logical business sense in reference to the shopping season. We will see if I am right.

Episodes 1-3 arent even that bad. The originals are amazing though.
Also, Verizon doesn't use testman to push big info to the website anymore, it's all backended and sent live. They learned their lesson a year or so ago, so can we please stop devoting entire pages to who sees what on testman?
Why, because I enjoy a well moderated zone that stays on the topic at hand so I don't have to wade through 20 pages of nerd boners just for one piece of info?
I'm on probation because I call people out, and I don't particularly care if I get slapped, banned or not-I can read the forum regardless. I just get tired of hearing nerdgasms when all I want to see is relevant information.
i asked yesterday, and i'll ask again. why are you even in this thread if you don't enjoy the "community" aspect of it? if all you want is information, set a news alert on google and be done with it.

Seriously, I don't come into this thread to hear chatter about who's nerdier than who.
If you want to know when you can get your Gnex and not rifle through banter, friendly convesations, and some genalized fun I suggest you F5 this site whenever you feel like it.
this thread is so fast with breaking info, chances are if you've found anything "New" it's been ninja'd. Did the phone get released already? I haven't been reading every single post.

this thread moves ridiculously fast, just wish it were more on topic not all this star wars stuff.
Here's the thing. It's gonna happen. That's why a lot of people hang around here. Sure Star Wars isn't my thing, but I'll just skip those. The Off-Topic convo is gonna happen, it's the nature of the beast. The same argument was made from the beginning of the Dinc Thread, but it's the environment (that includes off-topic stuff) that keeps many people around here.
This attracts the attention getters (which we all are) to come back here with any info they find, and get the appropriate thanks for it. If no one was here, then there'd be less incentive to come here with the information.
Not trying to be harsh, just trying to explain why I think it has to be the way it is.

I don't know why this is such a big deal. It comes up often. Steven does a great job keeping the first post up to date with the latest info. Once you go past the first post all bets are off. If you only want the latest info there is nothing else to see here.

I don't understand why people do preorders aynways, don't you have a better chance of getting it in hand sooner going to the store opening day?
Yea, but my wife and I leave for a vacation on the 8th. It would really mess up our vacation (from her perspective) if I delayed our departure so I could pick up a new phone, and played with it during the trip. So for me, and 8th release with no pre-order, will mean I'll actually order it that day.
Now if they do a pre-order early, I'll do fastest delivery possible, hoping to get it into my hot little hands before I leave.

That made me LOL!! I agree BUT as Han or someone else mentioned, due to pop culture, I would think most people who haven't seen the movie already know what you're talking about. ESB is easily the best of the six IMO. I remember being little and freaking out during the opening scene in the snow!
And keep in mind, I didn't suggest that it should be watched in chronological order, just wanted to hear conversation on the topic.

Anyone else looking for an external battery charger and an extra battery? For my Dinc and TB I used Seidio but they don't seem to have anything yet. I LOVE having an extra battery ready so I never have to be tethered with a wire. If anyone comes across one of these bad boys, please let me know.
I'm sorry, does the thread title indicate a social contract of "banter and friendly CONVESATION?" Did I miss something?
No, thank you-i'd prefer not.

Go into this thread knowing how large it is. Know that it is not all completely on topic. The OP, Steven58, will make a best effort attempt at keeping THIS top post as up to date as possible on current news on the device. You are welcome to post here or create a new thread with information you have. The new thread will be kept on topic. This thread is sort of a lounge-news type thing and off-topic talk is acceptable so long as THIS POST contains all the important information on the thread. -Phases

I've heard of people getting their preordered devices a day or two before actual release. I don't know how common that is. Also, if it comes in the mail, the greasy-fingered Verizon salesman don't get their smudges all over your beautiful new nexus.
Question: If you do the fastoem unlock, do you still get OTA updates?
We have talked about everything that deals with the Nexus. If you want to know something about it then ask. Other than that we are killing time until it comes out. BTW, Episode 3 is excellent. Start with 4,5,6.

I don't know, you would think with pop culure they would have seen Star Wars too, but you never know. Just my 2 cents.

sucks that the NFC antenna is in the battery on the GNex. replacements/spares are going to be expensive!

Evidently yes.
The OP states that news or info when significant will go into the OP - that's as far as anyone need go for updates.
From there, the OP expressly states by our site Admin, Phases, that this thread is _exactly_ to have some info and friendly banter, in the manner of a Lounge-like thread.
Hope this helps.

Outside of the Nexus beer is the most appropriate thing to talk about. Beer and disappointment go hand in hand. Next topic is nuts then Star Wars. Bro Code
In that case - what's everyone drinking tonight? I'm going with a Sam Adams Black & Brew, appropriate for the first (finally) cold night of the year.

Man I hope the 8th is the date...I don't want to pay the $35 rent-a-r* fee, and I'm weary of losing my additional $50 loyalty discount in the process of rent/return/buy nexus.

Yeah but I think its more common to get it late rather then early O.o
