Definitely. If it comes with an Exynos 4212 and an HD penTile display, (high brightness and no pixelation, hopefully), then it should work great with battery consumption.

Here's hoping!

i always go back to the VZW focus group docs, as it is definitely appearing that those were about the RAZR: "Large 4.3" Super AMOLED Advanced display delivers superior color, enhanced readability, 35% more pixels than the competition."

i don't know if that means pentile or non-pentile, but word is that it's a nice screen.

also, i'm not overly surprised that the RAZR would compete pretty closely with the Nexus. again, it seems pretty likely to me that the RAZR is/was Moto's candidate/submission/prototype for the Nexus. when Moto's device (or HTC's or LG's) wasn't picked, did we really just expect them to scrap a top tier device and never let it see the light of day?!?

for me, it's probably gonna come down to the BL and dev'r support. i know Moto's history, but it has been promising unlockable BL's. also, if this was meant to be the Nexus, it's not implausible to suggest that it might have an OG-type BL.... time will tell, i guess.

Yes. I'm fully back on the Prime wagon. For at least the next 24 hours.

LOL no, you're doing fine. I was just poking fun since you seem to get really excited one minute, and then depressed, and then excited again. It's fun to watch . Probably poor posting on my part, I should've used some smileys or something

the 4460 has the 540. period. you can't swap gpu's in and out. so unless TI has some secret SoC we don't know about, it's not happening with them

Keep in mind that SAMOLED+ screen on SGS2 is only WVGA, not qHD. As far as I know, Samsung hasn't put out any SAMOLED plus screen with resolution greater than WVGA yet. That will come next year. So the qHD SAMOLED in Razar must be pentile screen as well.

i'm not disappointed. in fact, i interpreted the "source's" statement to not be a comment on the CPU/GPU, but instead to say that the Nexus, running ICS, gave a better overall experience than the RAZR, running GB, even tho the Nexus and RAZR are otherwise pretty closely matched in specs.

of course, i could be wrong. either way, thanks VZ!!

the RAZR is rumoured to come with an (old) omap 4430 clocked 1.2GHz, and when ICS was said to be the only advantage you assume that their hardware specs would be equal... and the OMAP 4430 is really old... its used in the optimus 3d, which was shown @ MWC 2011

Hmmm... this is the first time I've seen Super AMOLED Plus qHD screen mentioned for RAZR. I've only seen Super AMOLED without the plus mentioned for the RAZR. I'm a bit surprised that Motorola is getting the first qHD Super AMOLED screen. Samsung must be in a generous mood or because of the Super AMOLED HD and future screen, they feel like they can hand off "older" tech screen to competitors. RAZR will indeed be interesting to see... in many way it has specs that match some of the speculation for the Prime.

One of the links a page or two back claimed it was no disappointment because they thought the X2 screen looked great but I think it looks fugly.

OMAP vs. Exynos doesn't matter to me; I don't game on my phone and would honestly just prefer the processor that gives the best battery life assuming no enormous discrepancy in day-to-day performance.

We'll see!
I'm haven't seen the Bionic or Photon screen but they are RGBW as far as I know. Super AMOLED is RGBG and it hasn't bothered me much looking at it. Hopefully because of the higher pixel density of Prime, it won't be annoying. However, I agree that it would be nice to see RGB version of Super AMOLED HD screen. However, I would like for screen tech to go even beyond RGB striping... to no striping at all. I would like to see each pixel be predefined single color, not a combination of 3 rectangular RGB pixels. However, the only way to get that right now is with Quantum Dot displays which is still a few years away from mass production if ever. Quantum displays would deliver much purer color than any RGB stripe matrix. A news link for Quantum Dot displays:

Quantum-dot LED screens may soon rival OLEDs and LCDs

I believe the OG Galaxy S phones were RGBG and bothered me equally.

I'm cheering for the high density display to make this a non-issue. The Bionic is actually off my list completely strictly because of its display. I'd rather stick with my Droid X for another year.

unfortunately, all we've really gotten from over at HoFo is that the Spyder is real, it's LTE, and it will have a better screen. beyond that, bubkus. Spyder and Nexus are running neck and neck for which device has been locked down tighter...

I read through all of their web docs, and while the underlying technology does have legitimate benefits, many of their claims were bogus or exaggerated. IMO, a decent technology marketed sleazy.

Interesting, I wonder what those are (offline). But I'd leave it up to the phone manufacturers themselves to decide which screen technology to use... and to live with whatever battery life consequences that means for the users.

I'm not [yet] convinced of that. Eyes are more sensitive to certain colors than others. White subpixels are more efficient than a combination of RGB subpixels. And pixel grain does become less noticeable at higher densities. It makes sense to use designs that maximize strengths and minimize weaknesses without regard to what ostensibly seems elegant or symmetrical.

Mega-ditto.

Ugh!

I'm quite excited that the Exynos may be in the Prime, particularly for performance and low power consumption. Couple that with a PenTile UD screen and we may not NEED a 2000MAh battery!

Three weeks to go......

actually, leaks on the RAZR internals have been decidedly difficult to come by, as much or more so than the Nexus. all that has been leaked is that the Spyder has an "unspecified" processor clocked at 1.2 ghz. i think the better money is on it being a turbo charged OMAP 4430. but, like you said, that is a fairly old chip, and i wouldn't be overly surprised to see the 4460.

edit: fwiw, over at HoFo, Susurro (who certainly appears to be an insider) posted this about the processing speeds/specs of the Spyder:

I have noticed on the blogs though that people get really excited about 1GHz vs 1.2GHz vs 1.5GHz or dual core vs quad core. Those people are generally clueless about what really affects a phone's performance (for example, quad core holds no advantage over a good dual core, when in fact a good dual core with a solid GPU would actually be better and internal bandwidth matters so much more). I am not saying anything about what this phone is or isn't, just commenting that a lot of people talk out of their arse.

On this phone, I'll just say that Verizon and Google are extremely excited about it.

I am thinking that VZ_Wired saying to "hang in there", means that we will know something this week. Whether it be a new date on the unveiling, or even an announcement for the device. With all of the hype and news about this device, I don't see them letting this dangle in the breeze. This week we hear something...JM2C

CK, there is not enough vodka on the planet to erase that image from my brain. Thank you so much for that.

In other news - it is strange that there is so little info on the RAZR given its impending release. And also strange that Verizon would launch a premier Sammy product and premier Moto product so close together, don't you think?

Agreed, German!

Although I think that if they do a whole Unpacked "google experience" garbage, it's going to be such a hassle to get everything put together.

I just hope they make a simple announcement.

Hey, maybe they could ask if they can join Moto's RAZR announcement? I mean, Verizon will already be there!

In other news - it is strange that there is so little info on the RAZR given its impending release. And also strange that Verizon would launch a premier Sammy product and premier Moto product so close together, don't you think?

This thread is hilarious.

Back on the Nexus front, do you guys find it odd that all three phones that are believed (at least by me) to have been contenders for the Prime:

1. RAZR

2. VIGOR

3. GALAXY NEXUS

are all under so much secrecy? We've had leaked pics of all three, but precious few details on internal specs.

Could it be that during the evaluation phase with Google, all three handsets were put under severe NDA's way back when, and are still in place?

I just find it very hard to believe that all three phones are so secretive.

Anyone ever think that vz_wired is being told by Verizon to give us these little tidbits as "leaks" in order to keep up the level of hype and anticipation? Just a thought...

I'm not complaining either way. Thanks vz!

Hmmm....I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no. Not sure Verizon is that savvy. I truly believe VZ_wired is risking his JOB to give us anything at all.

Thanks VZ_Wired!

I've always thought that these little leaks come from either Verizon or manufacturers.

The video (or was it the pic?) leaking on the same day as the Apple announcement was pretty fishy to me.

But I doubt VZ's being instructed by anyone. It seems like he's trying to keep us encouraged without actually revealing anything of substance because he's scared to death. Him warning me about my sister losing her job kind of proved that to me.

Watch it: Verizon is going to play up the RAZR to the hilt: media blitz, big signs in the windows, arrows in the store pointing to the device and reps saying "OOOH you gotta buy this phone!"

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy-Nexus-Prime will be played down, sitting all alone, virtually ignored. Why? Verizon's preferred relationship with Motorola. All because of the locked bootloader issue and the relative difficulty in removing VZW bloatware from Moto phones.

I'd almost bet a paycheck on this scenario.

Nexus Prime Announcement Coming Nov. 3rd, Says Verizon Inside Source

this seems wrong to me... I was under the impression that we were holding November 3rd as the release date, and we should be hearing an announcement very soon. How could they get this wrong? (or maybe I'm wrong.)

I see it is more complicated than I thought. Well..

I knew N__ P___ won't be so beast with 1.2 GHz, and I see you're rather disappointed with SGS III and RAZR specs. Yeah, NP needs more power to be the beast.

AND NOW, I believe one - every single person who handled this device says one (and it is quietly common) word which describes it - THE BEAST! I hardly believe it is much better than 1.5, especially as VZ_Wired sais - it was chosen to win GAME and ENTERTAINMENT prize!

Let's believe........................

It seems like this year all the launch timings got frakked up among the manufacturers and now they're all scrambling to get their hardware with the right service providers to maintain market share.

Steven would know for sure. .

Steven, did your source say that it would be announced November 3, or released November 3??

Also, I hope that his bosses never find out his identity, because talking about how they didn't like the Bionic but released it anyway would definitely get him fired.

Maybe they are doing an announcement and launch same day?

The video was an official Samsung leak as I understand it. They even uploaded it to their official YouTube account.

As to your second point of keeping us encouraged without revealing anything. Well that is EXACTLY what Verizon would want to do don't you think?
But yeah I also sincerely appreciate all the effort Vz_Wired is making for us. Thanks!

Edit: the comments about the bionic do prove otherwise though. So maybe not. Just thinking out loud. Sorry guys

Doesn't make sense from a business standpoint though. (marketing types love to build suspense for what the techies invent - makes more money that way)

Surely they wouldn't do THAT. Would Verizon go that far downplaying such a device? As to let it just quietly hit their website?

What if the nexus is the MOTO HD? What if the unpacked event for the nexus for cancelled because of a last minute decision?

Exactly. I'm willing to bet that wires got crossed somewhere and the source was talking about a release on November 3. That date has been rumored in too many places to have it just be a rescheduled announcement.

I'd expect to hear something about an announcement some time this week.

I don't see it. Nexus IS a Samsung phone, not Moto. I think the Nexus is way too far into production to just cancel it now. Sammy would lose millions.

Don't forget about the Vigor! And the Revolution 2 is due out soon too... I think Husker has been theorizing about the Vigor, RV2, RAZR, and the Prime being conteders for the Nexus crown. This is a logical explanation for all of these great phones at once. It seems to me that this holiday season is a rare moment when VZW customers will be the true winners in the phone wars.

I wouldn't worry about it, Chief. They made a big spectacle of announcing the girl phone, and that's a mid-range device at best.

This will get a lot of play on TV, etc. Especially from Samsung.

I suppose that's possible, but highly unlikely. They'd probably get their pants sued off by Samsung. I think approval of device through to manufacturing and release is a train that can't easily be stopped. And Google choosing Motorola because of the new partnership doesn't enter into it. That partnership hasn't been approved yet and is going through the stages. You might see a Moto Nexus next year, but not this time.
