Could someone remind me of the ideal battery protocol when you first get the phone? Isn't it something like run it completely dead the first time and then charge it all the way to 100% to get the most out of it long term?
TIA
Okay, I did some research on how to treat a new lithium ion battery and found the following:
Quote:
New Li-Ion batteries should be stored in a location with ambient temperatures between 70º to 100ºF and at 40% state of charge or
lower. After use, batteries can be stored at higher charge levels but it is recommended that you check with your supplier for details.
Prolonged storage at elevated temperatures and high state of charge will result in the permanent loss of performance of up to 40% per year.
Also, there is no memory effect with a Li-Ion battery so it is not necessary to completely discharge and fully recharge your battery ever. However, they do have a limited life as far as number of charges so try not to unnecessarily charge your phone.
Welp... this thread seems only to have about two or so more days of life. It's time for you folks to give each other some hugs and share fond memories complete with tears.
I love you all. Thanks for spending several months entertaining and conversing with me. I hope that you all enjoy you new phone and I look forward to seeing you all in the other GNex threads.

So what did I miss? Any bans, turd tossing, I am leavings or new news?
Or are we still talking the Peggy?
No bans (that we know of)
No turds (unless you count P3 cause he is one)
No new news other than lots of confirmations of stores having the phones and people making appointments.

I always charge all the way then discharge completely so as to calibrate batterystats.bin.
I am so happy you mentioned the Christmas CD haha it is REALLY good! He maintains that franky sinatra voice with modern music, love it. Can't believe I just found out about him today..

Well I know that today was a great day. I got a Nexus reserved for Friday afternoon when I get off work at an Authorized Retailer. Top that off with buying some accessories from a corporate store to prepare: screen protectors, case/holster, TPU case, extended battery and back, and a new set of Skullcandy earbuds. Friday will be a great day indeed. We are getting close everyone. Really enjoy this thread and all the camaraderie. Look forward to seeing all of you in other threads here in the Nexus forum.
@SamMax Is that picture from the Children's Museum in Indy?
Can't guarantee this on specific devices but earlier this year (or some time in the past decade? it all blurs together) I was discussing this point with coworkers and customers after a meeting. I work as an engineer on machines that make the LEDs and parts of hard drives, so we have discussions with end users (which would be your equipment makers) from time to time. We were discussing the software and circuitry that's finally being put in place in electronics to properly handle the charging and discharge characteristics of Li-ion and Ni-mh batteries. Li-ion batteries of course have very difficult to predict discharge curves. I think since that discussion there was an IEEE article or two about the changes being made.
Effectively it removes all that voodoo-ish thinking we used to do, not draining the battery below a certain amount, certain charging cycles on new batteries, etc. A good thing since some companies would insist that a new battery be fully charged then drained a few times before it was "ready for use." One can only hope that functionality was picked up for use on everything by now, but we talk about developments that are interesting and not how widely implemented the ideas are.
Now me, I'm looking forward to my new GNex when they let me buy it. Been waiting for a new phone since the Galaxy S II was started long ago, and then when Verizon gave it a pass and the GNex came up I decided that was my next phone.
My V1 LG Chocolate from 2005 dials random numbers, sends texts whenever it wants, starts going online on its' own, and so on. The charging/headphone/USB port has had to be re-soldered onto the main board already and I've gone through multiple batteries. Still, no scratches on the screen and it still works. Usually. And the battery now lasts 5 days on standby, it used to last an hour. Clearly it doesn't handle Li-ion properly.
Informative I dig it thanks! And a hearty welcome to you

I thought so! My girlfriend lives in IN and is part of the Big Sister program. We took her little sister there one day. It was a really cool place. I think that I enjoyed it as much as she did! Plus getting my picture taken next to Bumblebee was pretty awesome too.

see what I did there? I added the "k". In music they call that, "variations on a theme." It makes the musical subject (the "tune" more interesting.
Alright Dad, we'll be good!
Sleep well!

I took quite a few pics when I was there, it was the Hollywood Memorabilia display. Darth Vaders suit from the original, Luke Skywalkers light saber, Terminator Jacket etc.

Awww. That's cute. I think horror is my favorite genre, or thrillers with some major psychological and philosophical implications (think Christopher Nolan- my favorite movie of all time is The Prestige, although it is tied with Almost Famous) and then I love anything that is about the entertainment industry it self (like all of Aaron Sorkin's TV shows outside of West Wing - even if they always get cancelled)

Well now that you snatched up a guy with that outfit that the forum helped you pick out, isn't that what he is for? To hold you while watching scary movies and such...

If any of the papers/finals I have to grade over the new few days mention the nexus, I think that means they deserve an automatic A.
