I now I am saying this a little late, but I was at school and now work.
Thank you Steven, you truly are a great Mod. You put your heart and soul into it, which is awesome. I can't thank you enough for what you do. I wish I had gotten to chip in but maybe next time. Thank you.

I share these sentiments. In addition to the above, has anyone noticed that there hasn't been much rumbling about the 12/9 rumors? I think there was one or two quickie posts yesterday, but radio silence since. It's almost as if Verizon sent a polite request to the more news-oriented blogs to keep the gossip to a minimum so that they could have the silent launch...
About the only blog that appears to have much traffic at all that is stirring the pot is Droid Life. I like that site, but it's hardly a news site, it's a gossip rag. How many leaks can Kellen post to generate traffic for his ad hits to go up? I think we're finding out...
Personally, unless I get an email from Verizon saying that it isn't launching this Friday, I will be at my 9 a.m. appointment to see if the phone is available for sale to me. If it isn't, I'll just wait. I've been using an OG Droid for the past 18 months until a few weeks ago, when I went ahead and purchased a used Bionic to get me off the Nexus Salivation Train a little bit until it actually comes out. I reckon I'll just sell the Bionic at a little loss and consider it a rental.
Now, carry on the frenzy!
That is my take as well. I'll certainly drop by the store in the morning to see what is up unless VZ does as you say. No harm done, might get a GN out of it. If not, then another day right!

If vzw had the esn's locked then even activating the sim will not work.
Seems that would be a hassle to lock all the ESN's on a phone about to release only to have to release all the locks. Doubt their systems can even do that in a real trouble free fashion anyhow.
Pretty sure trying something like that would DEFINITELY break the laws of the C-Block rules and regs. Really almost all their controlling habits with phones now spilling over onto C-Block capable phones are now illegal if'n you ask me.
Google Wallet - With all the hoopla yesterday about google wallet not being on the G'Nex, it's possible that this was the first time the Verizon legal team took notice of this issue. Obviously, doing something as antitrusty as blocking google wallet, and then putting ISIS on the phone even though it uses the same "security risk" would draw some heat, and maybe the legal team has advised them to allow Google Wallet to avoid an antitrust suit, and they're cooking up a last minute fix to allow it.
Must admit I've been thinking along these lines too. Its the only thing that fits with the severe "Go to DefCon 5" reaction that Woodraskam mentioned earlier tonight. Would also be typical VZW hubris to assume they can force Google to remove Google Wallet so that their ISIS [not yet demonstrable] NFC payment app does not have to compete, only to have their corporate legal department come along at the 11th hour that this kind of restriction is in breach of their FCC license. Doh!
The easy way out for VZW may be to swallow hard and allow Google Wallet on this phone, which would be goodness on so many levels.

Yeah. Don't think they can stop activation stuffs with SIM phones so easily. Maybe?
They could block all the IMEIs tied to Galaxy Nexus phones from registering on their towers. So you'd have a phone that was basically unable to do anything until they whitelist you.

From the VZW site; Q: Can I use my Verizon Wireless 4G SIM card in a 4G LTE device not purchased from Verizon Wireless?
A: Yes. You may activate any 4G LTE device that has been certified by Verizon Wireless to be compatible with our 4G LTE network, including devices not purchased directly from Verizon Wireless. Simply activate your 4G SIM card on a Verizon Wireless price plan
I am not so sure that a sim phone can be blocked.

Besides what others have mentioned, would you want to risk your job to make a bunch of anonymous internet posters happy?
ok I dont mean to disparage anyone, but lets say youre some high school dropout turned manager at some podunk Radio Shack. Corporate hasnt been by your store in months. Some dude comes and flashes some green of which you are going to get a cut. Maybe this crazy obsessed nerd might kick in a little extra to get bragging rights to be the first w a GNex to post pics of on the internet.
Maybe you think no one will be the wiser if you ring him up....

I built my pc like 15ish months ago. i7-870 2.93 GHz processor, 96 gb ssd (for windows/programs), 7200 rpm 1.5 tb hd (for everything else), 8 gb ddr3 ram (PC3 12800), Windows 7 64 bit, MSI P55M-GD45 motherboard and MSI N250GTS Graphics card, (already had a power supply) overall I spent about a grand on it and it still runs like a beast.
You went all out on a lot of specs 15 months ago. That should rival top of the line to above avg specs for the next 12 mo. i7 Intel was the way to go, but how did you do that, plus 1.5 TB HDD @7200 with MSI P55M-GD45 MOBO for 1K? I can't get those parts for less than 1500 right now.

Hmmm - I really want to know what that comment was. I love snarky comments (and on the same hand do appreciate the thought of trying to not offend a lady)
but this lady is pretty damn hard to offend

It isn't breaking any law. Same way certain games can't be sold until a certain time. Same could be true for these devices.
2 - Cyanogenmod site seems to be down and it's irritating the bejeezus out of me cause I keep having fc's and wanted to try a nightly
Out of curiosity, am I the only person here who is not planning on rooting the Galaxy Nexus?
Also out of curiosity, can you still get OTA updates with a rooted Nexus?
I had my DInc for well over a year before rooting it, and nothing actually changed in my daily usage of the phone, except now the OTA updates don't work.

Sometimes verizon puts a date when phones can be sold and until then you can activate the sim but the esn would not allow the phone to be activated. Who knows maybe that is not the case, that is just what I was told.
i keep reading that the reason could be because with 4g down they wouldnt be able to activate the sims. but i dont get how that makes sense, since people who dont live in 4g areas can activate their sims. can someone explain the difference
I had the Rezound on the 9th it didn't launch until the 14th, Verizon was a little surprised I had it, but activated it nonetheless.
Yeah well verizon sold it so they prob didn't care if it was activated early. I know sometimes they do that and sometimes they have a hard release not to sell before.

1) probably not the only person not rooting, but i maintain that if you have an unrooted android device, you are missing out on alot.
2) yes, you can still receive OTA updates while rooted.
Ok, I emailed Anthony the author of the article from tweaktown.com and asked him to please confirm the 199 dollar price. He pointed me to a article here:
Since the picture no longer exists except in cyberspace....I, MYSELF, am not willing to call it confirmed.
For the sake of us all, I hope I'm wrong, I'd love to pay 199, but I'm putting another 100 plus tax a side like I planned all along.

I think I may have created another Nexus Addict! I'm sitting here reading the thread on my laptop, and my Girlfriend is sitting here next to me reading it on my Droid X.
And CONGRATS to you Steven! Well deserved! I would have pitched in if I had known.

For some reason when the lte network is down it causes issues with activating lte sim's. Idk maybe they are tied together to the same network?

No - after much debate I decided to play stock first and then when I get bored I will root. (plus I will hopefully be able to play the 'damsel in distress' card and just hand the phone off to someone more experienced and say 'unlock it please'). Lol.
I believe OTA can be received until a ROM is flashed. I could be wrong though .
I had my DInc a year before rooting too! I rom'd the hell out of it for 2 months then decided to stop for a while.
I'm really hoping and praying that the Radioshack right next to my work has the GNex on Friday and that they don't know not to sell it. That would be amazing!

I am sure that I don't know the dumbest guy in the USA, but I know people dumb enough that if they had access to Gnex at a Radio Shack, they would take one home and use it.
Point is, if this thing is in stock at stores, it is going to find it's way onto the street. That or a guy from Engadget is going to find one in a bar.

Rooting by itself will never stop OTA updates.
Rooting and removing apps, and really changing system settings can cause the OTA to fail installation.

I'm unlocking, rooting, the whole she-bang. First thing. Root does not affect OTAs. Some custom ROMs do.

Yes, the phone can be blocked. Each phone has a unique set of identifiers that Verizon sees and can also block if needed. As I understand it, every one of these phones has to be registered in their system to begin with (e.g. only phones certified for Verizon will work, keeping people from just making 700mhz LTE phones randomly).
A stolen shipment of phones can just as easily be struck dead by these same methods.
Do you own this, if so, would you recommend it? I'm interested in it, but don't know anyone who has it.
I have one. Don't use it much because I have a separate networked media player. I'm hoping the update adds some more functionality and I'll find myself using it more.
