They wouldn't be pushing these crappy v-cast commercials if they didn't think it would make them money.

Verizon is not capable of marketing a phone to consumers. I cringe watching the Droid commercials compared to the iPhone ones. The only thing Verizon has going for itself is the network.

Samsung has good reason to insist on being the one to control the marketing.

I did search on the first page and didn't notice anything mentioned about HDMI.

Do we know if this will have or is rumored to have/not have an HDMI out?

Everything I'm reading is damn near perfect in what I'm looking for in a phone but as an oldshchool gamer I'd love to be able to get some gaming going on the big screen.

Now only if Samsung will get their act together with allowing bluetooth controllers to play nice....
If I had to guess, I'd expect an MHL (mobile high-def link) port - it looks and acts like a microUSB port for charging and data, but add an MDL adapter (requires USB power) and you'll get full HDMI out.

This is now found on the top end HTC and Samsung phones.

There are some new controllers coming for gaming, here's one -

http://androidforums.com/android-accessories/413913-easymote-bluetooth-controller-ingenu-75-units-left.html

Put that together with HDMI - or with a *good* high bandwidth connection and something OnLive - and you've got a comprehensive platform on the big screen, with a decent controller, courtesy of your *phone*.

Hope this helps!

FWIW (unsolicited)...Thought I'd give you my thoughts on the Bionic because I used one for several days...I went from the OG (Long Live Project Elite) to a T-bolt to a Bionic for 4 days and then back to the T-bolt.

My impressions of the Bionic were very good. I only came back to the T-bolt because of Prime. It was faster than any phone on Verizon, so web surfing was silky smooth compared to my T-bolt (overclocked to 1.4). The phone was very zippy opening apps, playing Stupid Zombies and other normal tasks for me. Battery life doing normal things was VERY good. All in all I thought it was a very, very good experience with really speedy LTE connections. For those that are so worried about the performance of a 1.5 OMAP 4460, imo there's nothing to be concerned about.

Anyway, just wanted to offer perspective from someone who rooted the Bionic the day I had it and played with it very extensively over the course of a long weekend. Newsflash guys, it's no dog. Getting a debloated Prime running at that clock speed on ICS with its hardware acceleration will be an incredible experience. We're all lucky it's coming our way. No amount of tweets from BMX (whom I do follow) will scare me away because of a Galaxy S III around the corner...Hope that helps!

I have a question about how Verizon upgrades work. I called and they say I have an early upgrade available. 2 year price + $20. Then in march i'm eligible for the full discount. Are those 2 separate upgrades or am I just taking the march one when I get the prime and paying an extra $20?

Hey, a bit of uplifting (if not totally on-topic) news, the ICS version of the Android Market was leaked, in case you want a bit of an early taste

Download: Leaked Nexus Prime’s Android Market 3.2.0 | DroidMatters.com

Looks pretty sweet, in my very honest opinion.

Has this been posted? Exclusive: Details Of The Verizon Galaxy Nexus Ice Cream Sandwich Phone (Sorry, "Prime" Is Not Likely)

Quote:
  • OMAP 4460 processor, Update: underclocked to 1.2GHz probably for stability (leaving quite a bit of room for overclocking) which is rated at 1.5GHz (it's unclear if Google will underclock it or not - BGR seemed to think it'll be clocked at 1.2GHz, but our source thinks otherwise). Therefore, we're going to say the processor model is confirmed, pending exact clock speed clarification
  • 32GB internal storage
  • no SD card slot (like the Nexus S, argh)
  • LED notification (unlike the Nexus S)
  • 1GB RAM
  • LTE
  • NFC
  • 1080p HD recording @30fps
  • 5MP rear camera
  • possibly some sort of a time lapse feature
  • Ice Cream Sandwich confirmed as Android 4.0
  • Internally, the Verizon Nexus is known as Tuna/Tuna 4G (board/model) as well as Toro (product/device)
  • Galaxy Nexus name
  • large screen - we all take 4.65 or so for granted, but I wasn't able to confirm the exact size, so I am only including things we know

Yea that's essentially what we've been hearing all day. Slightly disappointing but I'm confident the Prime will be a beast all the same.

Yeah I know but seems to come from some sort of reliable source now in their post with a processor update.

Just figured I saw their update pop up and would do the same.

You do realize that most of these "sources" are people reading this thread and regurgitating the info in thier own article.

Funny that article comes out right after Steven58's source confirmed the OMAP 4460. Everything that is in that article comes right from here. Hmmmmm.

Just saying.

Agh, that's it.

I'm going to finish watching Spaceballs with the wife and go to bed.

Hilarious movie.

Good night, children. I expect you'll have some news for me in the morning. And. . . some eggs. With bacon. Burned black. If I see any smudge of pink on that bacon, heads. will. roll.

Good night!

Phew!....Ugh....Been away for a while and finally caught up...

So, I had this crazy dream last night. For some silly reason I dreamed that I got an exclusive invite to a Nexus Prime announcement party. And everybody at the announcement celebration was given a Nexus Prime way before the release date. Afterward I promptly went home and posted all the juicy Prime information here on AF.

Lets just say that I woke up in a good mood!

Things calmed down enough for me to post. Now I got to sleeps. Hoping that tomorrow brings us something juicy.

OG droid made it another day. Taking it one day at a time. Each day with my OG is a gift and a day I was never promised. She's tired. I have no backup. I need it to last a few more weeks.

Good night speculators.

so i just watched a video about the iphone 4s because just to know about the knew voice control and to see what they did to the camera. Knowing that the Nexus will probably have a 5M camera was kind of disappointing to hear, but its not all about the Megapixels. the iphone 4s only has a 8M camera so not really much of an advantage. After watching that iphone video, i'am pumped to hear the announcement of the Nexus. Its going to crush the Iphone!

We are at still in a black hole...don't drive yourself crazy with all these people and tech bogs w/ "reliable sources".

Tomorrow it will be the Snapdragon at 1.5 and by the end of the day it will be 1.5 w/ an unknown processor and SD slot.

My source says under clocked but that may be a recent development. 4460 is 1.5 natively so maybe to squeeze a bit more battery? At least we know that it is a omap4460... could be worse

Well can't tell you for sure, but i'm guessing they wanted to test it under more stressful conditions then are underclocking for better battery life. The loss in performance is probably negligible if they're willing to do that.

Looking back at the pages, I didn't see this discussed yet. A tweet from BMX:

Maybe GSMarena was right about that dual-mode CDMA/GSM radio. Maybe people who have said "there is ONLY ONE Galaxy Nexus" are correct.

No idea but I don't buy any of it Steven

Too many people are contradicting one another. I'll stick with 1.5GHZ for the time being until I'm convinced otherwise.

Like I said tomorow some other blog will write an article with their "reliable source" telling them it's a Qualcomm.

I haven't posted much today, but I've been keeping up. Here are my thoughts:

I was waiting and waiting and searching for the "Samsung Function," which as those of you that were also following it know, it was to be the Galaxy SII for Verizon. Well, we all got the sad news that Verizon WAS NOT getting a version of the GSII. It was a very sad day. However, now we get something better and only a couple months after Sprint got their version of the GSII, the Epic 4G Touch. We are getting the Nexus, which is better spec'd than the GSII in every way imaginable. So, what are we REALLY upset about? Well, the ones who are upset are upset because they got their hopes up for a device that would end all devices. A phone that would be the best phone ever and there would never have to be another phone made, ever. Well, haha, that's just not realistic guys. We are getting a much better phone than the Epic 4G Touch for Sprint and we're getting it not long after they got their phone. Not to mention the phone we're getting blows it Sprint's away and we don't have Touchwiz all over the thing. We are the FIRST phone to get the newest, most amazing version of Android! We are getting a very fast processor, and for those of us who only play Angry Birds on our phones and load some movies on it to watch on road trips and watch YouTube videos, this phone will MORE than satisfy our needs in a phone. Heck, I'll never push this phone to it's limits. No way. Never. I live in a rural area of Oklahoma now, and I'm two hours to where I could even access LTE. So, I'll have it turned off all of the time, except when I go to Oklahoma City on the weekend and tether with 4G to download movies, tv shows, software, etc. This screen on this phone is going to be amazing. Guaranteed. So, what's the downside to this phone? Someone using 4G all day, on the phone all day and pushing it to it's limits with the screen as bright as it goes, ran the batter down in 6 hours? Are you kidding me? That tells me that this phone will easily last an 8hr work day, and THEN some for me. I bet I can make the battery on this phone last all day with light usage. If not, I'll plug it in. Problem solved. I already do this with my Droid Incredible. So, it won't be any adjustment for me. I'll just have a MUCH better phone than what I currently have. My fiance and I watch movies in our truck on roadtrips with her Epic 4G Touch and we can see the movies just fine and I plug my car stereo's auxilary cord into the headphone jack and we listen to the movie in surround sound. It's a fantastic experience. And THAT'S on a 4.5" screen. I can't even imagine how amazing movies are going to look in HD on this screen. It's truly going to be a new experience. Not to mention how great this phone is going to be as an in-car GPS. Put this thing in the car mount and use it as your personal 4.65" screen GPS unit with a data connection, Google Maps and Google turn-by-turn Navigation.

How could anyone pass on this phone? I, for one, will not be.

I think I'm finally coming to terms with all the news that this phone won't have the Exynos or a great GPU.

Looking back at my experience with Android, most of my pining has been for software. If it wasn't for the fact that Verizon is offering early upgrades (for reasons I still cannot explain...) I don't think I'd be disappointed holding on to my CM7'd DX for another year, until the next greatest thing comes out.

Verizon has a cell tower right in Amherst MA and I'm rocking 1-2 mbps down on 3G, which is more than enough for streaming Netflix/Hulu/Youtube. The College's wireless is only slightly better (sigh) and I've grown used to it.

Battery life is superb...great signal which equates to about 25-30 hrs of moderate usage for me (-69dBm here, compared to about 15-20 hrs of the same usage at -89dBm back at home).

In the end, I see it this way:

1. For CPU power, the OMAP 4460 is more than enough. Even if it was underclocked at 1.2 gHz, I think we're forgetting that we're getting a rootable NEXUS device and we'll have this beast overclocked to 1.8 gHz in no time. I'd take a dual-core 1.2 gHz over an 1.3 gHz overclocked single core DX any day

2. For the GPU, when the Optimus 3D came out with the OMAP 4430 everybody raved about how it was better than the SGSII Exynos. I just played around with a friends Fascinate which is really old, and I know the Nexus will be more than enough to run NOVA 2 and any other game you throw at it.

3. It's LTE. 'Nuff said.

4. ICS. Having the latest and greatest software seems to dominate any lack in hardware. Anyone that's compared CM7 or MIUI to BLUR knows that having stock Google updates will be a huge upgrade to any experience so far on VZW. The OG Droidsters and Nexus One peeps can probably attest that the availability of the newest software has kept their phones relevant far beyond what their hardware specs dictate.

5. There's going to be a never-ending cycle of "the next greatest thing". We have yet to see a 32nm chip inside a phone and Qualcomm comes out with 28nm technology. By the time the Exynos 4212 comes out in a device, the next greatest CPU/GPU technology will have it completely dominated, at least on paper. In the end, I guess this is better. I'd rather have technology that's been tested and in the works for months than the newest chip available.

Actually, I'm not sure the nexus line ever had the best hardware, or was very quickly eclipsed.

The point of the Nexus line is that it's a hardware point for Google to design thier new OS version. That's pretty much it. Original Nexus didn't have revolutionary specs, the Nexus S didn't, and neither will the Prime.

I'm OK with that, because the vanilla OS, faster updates and unlocked bootloader, coupled with ICS on Verizon makes this a phone worth looking at.
