Because its thin. It doesn't feel like a big hollow peice of plastic like the charge did.
Yep, and I think the plastic that is there maybe be denser or just more meaty pieces rather than big light flimsy pieces that surround a lot of the edges of the phone like the cover does on the charge. Basically the fact the light flimsy cover being relegated mostly to just the back face and not the actual sides that you are gripping helps give this solid effect.
It did seem plenty dense and weighty though even though it didn't weigh much. I would guess the S2's have a similar feel.
I've yelled this meme in forums on cellphones for YEARS. So annoying to me this isn't even an option. And when a company such as T-Mo does offer unsubsidized pricing for plans if I am not mistaken they give you a pretty crap discount compared to the sorts of incentive money it seems retailers get for selling devices.
I think to make this happen, we consumers need to DEMAND that it does. Tell them we don't want a contract and subsidized pricing, but rather better monthly cost and pay whatever the device costs from whomever we want. As long as most customers are happy with the subsidy regime we are stuck I am afraid as no other carriers seem to want to set things up different.
Right now you can get unlimited data (throttled after 5GB) and 100 minutes for $30 a month on T-Mobile. Great plan. I just would like to have the Verizon unlimited LTE.
But every day that passes takes me a little closer.

As one of the offenders, sorry guilty as charged.. however, please take the time to read the first post in the thread. This is a bit of a lounge-type thread where off topic stuff is allowed. Like you, some have had issues with it at times.. however it can be used as a bit of a measuring stick. If you're seeing a slew of off topic posts, there is likely no new info. Trust me, we'd all be atwitter about it if there was. Also, the most recent info tends to be in the first post. Steven and the other mods keep it pretty much up to date with rumors, leaks and pics.
And honestly, IMO, the off topicness here and there is part of the thread's charm and has contributed greatly to the sense of community here. I've commended them privately before, but Steven, Early and OTD have done an amazing job of keeping us relatively on track and civil (though some of that has to do with the wonderful folks posting here as well) without throwing the mod powers around willy-nilly like I've seen on some boards. They deserve a lot for helping to forge this community into what it is today. This isn't really a thread, it's a conversation among friends and that's quite frankly just awesome. I'd not go anywhere else for news without bringing it back here to my Gnex family because this place is like home, and the only thing I thank Verizon for with the delays is letting me spend just a bit longer with the great folks here.
...but since you're new here I'll refrain from the off topic stuff for a bit to raise the signal-to-noise ratio on GNex news since I've got nothing today.
^^^^^This. Well said!

There is no way possible that was the reason for the delay. If that bug slipped all the way till now without being addressed and fixed, then someone at google/android got fired.
This is EXACTLY what was told to my buddy that is a Verizon reseller on Wednesday from one of the Verizon higher ups. He said that it had nothing to do with the LTE issues and everything to do with some software bug. Posted this awhile back.
I am from SW Minnesota originally (wearing my Vikings polo today, definitely NOT a fair weather fan) so I know what you mean about that stuff. Living in GA is nice, summer tires year round.
Holla! If I had a Vikings polo on today I would also be sporting the paper bag hat. Instead of watching games with hope I've taken to watching them for entertainment. A little piece of me died the night Brett Favre made the most ill-advised throw in recent memory.
I'm still in awestruck that the box is plain white, and VZ actually kept something vanilla for once. Maybe they ARE learning a little (even though its just a stupid box) Anyway, looks very sexy.
Nice Car...I hate not buying american...but I'm on My Second Subaru WRX...
2009 WRX Premium...W/Catback Exhaust and minor mods chimes in at 310HP , and I still get me 29mpg (they were way off n MPG on both cars 4-5 low)...Drive By Wire, All wheel Differential, And ICE PIKE tires makes Wisconsin Winter Driving Fun...43 Isn't OLD
That's a pretty nice MPG. I think I get like 12 in the city. I wouldn't have it any other way though... I love my M5.
Just got back from a Radio Shack in Los Angeles. They had just received a shipment of them. Thought I might be able to pull a fast one but their system is not showing a price. I was able to fondle it for 5 minutes. It does feel bigger than by DX but felt lighter and fit in my hand well.
They said they would call me as soon as it was ready to sell.
Got my nexy fix for the day. Anyone else wanting one might try a local Radio Shack.
For all you who have held a demo unit. How is it possible that the phones so light but feels so well built and solid? This is one of my major concerns- I couldn't stand how light and cheap the samsung charge felt. I'm 6'3'' 220- I need a little bit of weight in my hands for something to feel well built .
This is subjective. When I was able to play with the Nexus my only complaint was that I thought it felt too light and a little cheap compared to my Droid X. I wasn't thrilled with the heft of it. It won't stop me from getting one but I don't know if I would say it feels solid. Again, this is all subjective.

What do you do with 100 minutes? I'm not one to yack on the phone but that's pretty small. Especially with most people ditching land lines these days.

That's interesting because I am actually coming from a DX, and I love the feel of a semi-heavy phone. I'm a pretty big guy too and having something heavier makes it less susceptible to it flying out of my pancake hands lol.

I am actually thrilled to see the ear buds are nearly identical to my stereo bluetooth headphones. I lost one of the rubber ear pieces somehow, now I will have a new one to replace it!! It just gets better and better
Dang, "VCast Media Manager" cable... I know it means nothing besides the annoying sticker, but it's just another thing that should be untouched by Verizon :/

It's not that sexy in person. It would have been cool if they would have embossed something on teh white box but it really is a plain white box with an ugly red inner box. Just my humble opinion.

Spent some time in Blairsville Sorry Blahrrrrrrrsvillllle JoJa...Loved the Blue ridge mountains and the Moderate temps....I am happy you vikings fans got to deal with the Favre Rollercoaster after we got sick of riding that

Yeah, that and Gary Anderson's... I can't even say it. My two worst memories as a fan.
Well just got back from the mall and doing a little shopping and figured I would stop in the radio shack and see what they said and they said they are not allowed to sell them yet, then I walked down to one of the verizon stands and they said they would be getting theirs the 15th. Come on verizon open the flood gates and let the phone sell.
Actually I am happy for them. I wish VZW wasn't so serious about a few getting out, so they didn't have to hide.
But Secret Santa, thanks for sharing! And thanks for being a messenger OTD, how does it feel to have everyone waiting for you to relay stuff? Steven and Han were getting all the attention
P.S. is husband cable supposed to be power cable?
I'm very happy that some of us might have the opportunity to get it early; I was really excited when I thought OTD snagged one.
I'm just numb to it all now. If it comes next week or next month, I'm just numb.

I can remember the days when Verizon wouldn't include WiFi on their smart phones (forced you to pay for a data plan). So now all their phone offer WiFi...but once again your forced to buy a data plan.

Yup, that's what I was doing at RS. Doesn't matter cause the sku shows unavailable in the price column once the salesperson scans.

I hardly ever talk on the phone, so 100 minutes would usually be perfectly fine. I think if you go over, it's $.10 a minute. Or you can get unlimited talk too for $50.
That isn't exactly "evidence" IMO. DL does a good job, and pocketnow also, but I am looking for a screenshot of emails or some document pointing towards the 15th. Otherwise its all hearsay at this point.
FWIW I also heard the manager at my store say the 15th, but not sure where they got that info. Maybe VZW is just calling all the store managers instead of making an official email.

Of the three phones (RAZR, Rezound and Nexus) I have to say that I personally think the Rezound feels the most solid and well built. I think the screen is just as beautiful as the Nexus screen as well. I wouldn't fault anyone for choosing the Rezound over the Nexus. The RAZR on the other hand feels cheap and has a subpar screen. My 2 cents.....

Man this phone is going to be a monster. I just got my TPU case today and my OG Droid, in its own case, fits inside it. I think the width is good. If it was wider I think I would need to use two hands

Haha, yeah that was my reason for choosing the Omnia!

um... well I'm not sure how to answer this. It was light.. especially before we put the battery in it. But it wasn't a cheap kind of light... I don't know how to explain it. I'm used to a bit a weight with my DX esp in a otterbox... but it does make my pinkie ache after a while of holding it... I don't think this will be the case with the GN. Perhaps the lack of buttons and the beauty of the screen make you think about how awesome it is.. not how light it feels??!?!

Also very interesting, considering one of moto's major selling points was the full steel frame and high quality materials. But yea, I kind of expected the Rezound to be of perfect weight for me- I'm just not an HTC fan at all.

Yeah. It's the throttling that bugs me. You would think you could get a plan similar to that with no throttling for $40-50 and maybe have a more useful amount of talk time like 500-700 for 60. And like 70 with 2 lines sharing it all. If I can't get subsidies, that seems like a fair price. But I pay about double the $70 for a 2 line VZW plan with unlimited data on each with 700 shared minutes and that's after a pretty good discount I have.
going by what i have read from various forums, twitter, fb and the like, my personal opinion is that the delay is because not everyone got their stock in time for release. i know it seems so simple that it couldnt possibly be right to many of us, but sometimes the best answer is the simplest. many reports of stores NOT having them in, some only have 1-3 while others having 30+. P3 said a while back(when he first started saying 12/9 which turned out to be correct) that they would be in port on 11/29-11/30, so with that being 10 days ago, i could see them not having gotten all of their stock out to all of their direct and indirect retailers by now
