I'm in NY state, here's what I said once they asked what they could do for me, I plan it all out before I call.
"I'm calling about the $100 promotion that is available when you upgrade from a 3G to a 4G phone, my friend got a post card in the mail with the information and the code C-H-4-N-G-E on it, I didn't get one and would like to see if I'm eligible since I'm upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus once it comes out."
The promo code is not CH4NGE.. its CH4GE please stop so you dont confuse others.

5th try on the 3G to 4G promo and it worked! I didn't mention the code this time because I kept getting told that only applied to Chicago (maybe that is a Chicago-specific code?). The CSR said "Yeah, Denver is in the Midwest so you're good." He was also waiting for the Nexus and told me he would make a note on my account to honor the promo if the phone releases before it expires.
Thanks to everyone for the tips! To those who haven't been successful, keep trying!

So on Dec 9th when we all thought the phone was coming out I was trying to get in touch with every retailer in NJ trying to get my hands on the thing first. A few radio shacks and local stores took down my phone number and name if they get "more information" soon. Anyway, I didn't expect nothing of it, and today afternoon I get a call from a Radio Shack about 40 minutes away saying they just got one in stock and if I wanted to come pick it up. Knowing very well that this was probably not going to work out- I made it clear to the manager asking him if he was 100% sure he could sell it. He seemed completely oblivious to the fact that a notification from verizon had been sent out to not sell the phone.
So, I get into the Radio Shack (after a 40 min drive), I walk in and tell the manager Im the guy who called in about a week ago for the Nexus. He says sure hold on- grabs the sexy white box and there I am about to tear in geek joy. As he's asking for my ID, credit card, etc..He goes to me wait hold on we have a problem here..immediatly I think that he realized he couldn't sell it to me because the SKU/ESN was not going through.
But that was far from the case- I realized my brother has not paid the previous balance for our phone bill (we split the bill each month) and they would not let us get the upgrade without paying!!!!! So I plead to him that we have an extremely clean and long history with Verizon, and he calls his boss to see what he can do. The boss immediately says "Are you f*cking serious!? DO NOT sell that phone, check the latest email from the district manager. He then explains to me that he was not aware blah blah...
If my brother would have paid the bill I WOULD HAVE BEEN THIS CLOSE!!!!!! ----> ME[ ]SGN
Dude, i know it sucks and Im so sorry, but this made me LOL a little bit..... Just a little.
I just got off the phone with CSR on *611. I called asking about how my upgrade isn't until 12/20 and wanted to see if they could move it up to this Thursday. The CSR stated that I could upgrade my phone now but I would have to pay a $20 early upgrade fee. He stated that due to this inconvenience that he was willing to offer me two free months of service for up to about $150 a month for my line as well as my wife's line. Now with the plan that we have with unlimited data and the 22% discount that I get through my employer, I would be paying pennies for those two months.
He then asked me what phone I was interested in and when I said the GNex he had a small laugh and said something to the sort that there is a lot of interest for that phone. He put me on hold for a couple of minutes to research it to see if he had any new news on the device and came back saying that their product page had coming soon and had mentioned the delay from last week. He also stated that Verizon didn't want to give out too much detail in case of disappointing a lot of people who have interest in the phone. I had mentioned that I had heard from online and from friends that they were getting leaks that it was coming out the 15th and he said that he has heard the same as he is a big blogger and visits many forums for such information.
I asked him if I were to get the phone on Thursday in a store would they honor the early upgrade price and he said that it was up to the store. I asked him if he would honor the offer of 2 months service if I got the phone in the store and I didn't get a straight answer. I may have not asked clearly enough though to get the results I was looking for, however he was a very nice guy and gave me straight answers so I do believe he was trying to help me.
He wrote down a note to contact me on Thursday with the current status of the phone or before hand with any updates he gets on the GNex. He also gave me his email address to contact him if I have any additional questions and also to let him know if I heard anything new about it as he was also interested.
My dilemma is that I can't decide if I want to go the store on Thursday to buy it and run the risk of them not honoring my early upgrade discount and potential free two months, or wait to order the phone on Thursday through him and get two months free which will cause me to wait for the phone to be delivered on Monday at the earliest when in which I cannot wait a second more for it.
Let me know what your suggestions are on the matter or if you have had similar offers in the past with discounts on service. I greatly appreciate any advice. If it helps with offering a suggestion, I also am sitting on that $50.00 gift card offer from Livingsocial a fee weeks ago which I will either throw at the phone or the extended battery and case.
edit: Threw this up as I found it. Now, after taking a peak, the extended battery does little to ugly-up the Nexus. While I wont jump on the ext battery at launch, I'll see how my usage drains the standard battery and have no reservations slipping the extended one in if needed.
Awesome. Definitely getting one if there's almost no change in thickness. Sweet!

Is there anyone who was able to snag that $100 promotion onto their account in NJ or NYC? If so, do you think you can share what you said to help them look up the promo.
I'm in Jersey. Just told the guy that a friend of mine got the promo in the mail and that I was looking for the deal also. Told him to look in "doorways" for 3g to 4g promo" and he found it and noted it on my account. Saved 200 bucks between my 2 upgrades.

Just to add to the radio shack stories, I stopped by my local RS here in Westchester NY and got the same we have THEM in stock but can't sell yet. He let me check out the dummy which just felt perfect in my hand. He wouldn't let me "reserve" one and then went on to say he only had 1 in stock.
The employee did seem to be holding back the entire time though. I noticed by his facial expressions that he wasn't too comfortable talking about any info. VZW has them by the leash, especially after some stores slipped.
edit: Threw this up as I found it. Now, after taking a peak, the extended battery does little to ugly-up the Nexus. While I wont jump on the ext battery at launch, I'll see how my usage drains the standard battery and have no reservations slipping the extended one in if needed.
So happy it barely bulks up the phone. I heard it is supposed to be able to fit the docking stations and regular cases just fine. Hopefully that's true because I'm think it'll be one of the first accessories that I'll buy. More juice is always good, no?

the extended battery doesn't seem to add that much thickness at all...from what i can tell it appears that the camera sits flush with the new back

They usually do next-day shipping for free or a few dollars more. When I ordered my DX through tele-sales the day it launched (on Thursday), I had it on Friday.

Wow...just wow. After trying several different CSR's with no luck, I tried your method and within like 2 minutes I had the $100 noted on my account and they will waive the $20 upgrade fee also with this promo. I live in Mississippi so this has to be for the entire country. Come on Thursday and chandl90 you rawk!!!!! Many thanks....
I tried it and it didn't work...I am going to try my best to let you guys know what he said...
I told him it was a flyer sent out to random (it seemed) people and that I have been a customer on Verizon for 10 years now and I didnt receive one.
He said "Well why don't you go ahead and bring it in tomorrow and we will take a look at it as I don't see it in the system"
No, I don't have the flyer, it was sent out to specific people it seems
Oh ok, well we are open from 9-9 tomorrow so why don't you bring it in and we will take a look at it.
Wut...

I would wait. I have to buy the phone (without insurance), activate it, power it down, remove the battery, activate my DX2, drive my Nexus to my folks house and wait until XMAS to get it as my paid for by my family gift...at which point I will purchase the insurance.

Looks good! Should still fit into my TPU case just fine.

One obvious thing to keep in mind about places like radio shack and best buy is they offer phones on many different carriers. Unlike non-corporate Verizon stores. So, while they don't want to lose the business of Verizon customers, I could see their high level execs telling Verizon to stick their phones where the sun doesn't shine, if they feel like they are being bullied. They aren't going to go out of business if they stop selling Verizon phones.
For those having issues with the CH4GE code, try this one. I received a promotion in the mail today that has different wording, here it is:
"Save Up To $100 On Any Phone" In the fine print it says: Total discount may not exceed price of phone. 2 yr. renewal required. Available if customer has not upgraded in the the last 180 days"
Promotional Code: STDNE2
I live in Wisconsin, good luck!

I think its great that Google is is taking this up. However, there have been and will continue to be very good 3rd party Siri replacements in the android market. I have to admit though, the one thing those 3rd party apps lack is thorough OS integration. I'm very very curious to see what Google cooks up. Good find Scott.

Ive said it tons of times before. Dont expect any tangible leaks. Verizon was made to look like a fool last week. They will not email anything, or send anything other then word of mouth until HOURS before release. Not days.

Voice Actions by Pannous does this. And you can specify your name as well. I think they changed the name of the app in the market. It might go by Jeannie now. Its a pretty darn good app. My droid stumbles while running it, so I had to quit testing it for them for the time being. Very good group of devs working on it though. They respond and respect user feedback like very few devs out there. High praise from me.

For those unsuccessful with the CH4GE code, keep in mind also that in the discount thread, our own efdisaster posted a mailer that he received that had a slightly different code: CH4GNE2. This has the same final three characters as Cptmorgan's code, perhaps that's a necessary part. See if CH4GNE2 works instead.
