"No Nexus device has ever made it to Verizon, in fact there have been almost no stock Android phones on Verizon at all. Verizon is no fan of the added features in stock Android, and its also not a fan of Android phones that don't come preloaded with Verizon's favorite bloatware."
And here I was assuming Prime on Verizon was a sure thing.

Yeah but if Verizon IS able to re-brand the phone as the SGS2 LTE, then they can load it up with bloatware with no obligation to keep it vanilla. Theyll be able to overwhelm us with Netflix, Blockbuster, VZ Navigator and Heaven knows what else.
Maybe even Bing
As long as it's rootable, I'm still down with it. We can always remove the crap.

That's what I'm worried about, too. The logical thing would be to believe that Verizon isn't stupid enough to pass on the SGSII just because they want to give exclusivity to Bionic. Hopefully it's because they know they'll be getting the Prime at least before thanksgiving.
BUT. . . . .who knows. I think it's 50/50. Rumors abound that Prime is coming to Verizon first, but that's what they said about SGSII.

I hope they don't rebrand it SGSII LTE, because that will mean it's a pure Samsung device. Pure Samsung devices don't get updates very frequently, I'm told.

What happened to your sister, who has apparently told you that SGS2 is "a downgrade" from what's coming on vzw? Is she in a position to know such things, or do you think she was blowing smoke?
I hope not the latter...

No, I definitely think she would know something about that; she dabbles in customer service but is an assistant with a lot of corporate stuff.
But when I asked her if Verizon is coming with the Prime or what, she just said "I couldn't say."
She knows that can mean either she doesn't know, or she knows something but can't say. She's very protective of her job and I'm surprised she even texted me the first thing.

I think we need to stop there for her sake. If we say any more about her, some trolling VZW exec may be able to trace her down and we don't want any consequences coming her way.
I'll take it on faith that something big is coming to Verizon, something epic, and something soon. The Droid & I can hang until October/November... but that's about it for this poor phone, I think.

Don't worry, I've thought of that, too. I won't reveal anything I think is too risky. And she's very careful in how she words things.
But regardless, she's not an upper level exec or anything. If she knows anything, about 10 to 30 people above her know the same thing, so no big deal.

Well.... I'm pretty sure the Xperia Play has at least the same UI as stock. They've really only added the gamepad support.

Okay back to the analysis: Reports are that a "very similar" phone to SGS2 is coming to Verizon soon. Prime would be a major upgrade, not very similar, and I doubt that both phones would be introduced around the same time. Ergo, Prime either isn't coming to Verizon or isn't coming for a good long time.
No offense to your sister, I'm sure she's not half that bratty.

no offense to my sister taken. Her "I couldn't say" can mean anything. I asked her about the iPhone 4 before anyone [officially] knew it was coming to Verizon, and she said "I don't know." I begged her for info because my wife was thinking of getting an OG Droid like me, but REALLY wanted the iPhone if it was coming. My sister literally said "Get what you want, I don't know."
This was only a little less than 2 weeks before iPhone was officially announced in January as coming to VZW.
Later, she admitted that she had known quite a bit of time in advance, but that she wasn't about to tell me and lose her job over it. Although I suspect she told my wife something, because one day not long after my conversation with my sister, my wife smiled and said she'd pass on the Droid and take her chances.

I'm still not fully convinced that verizon is getting Nexus Prime given their track record. They are in love with Apple, Moto now so to even pass on SGSII. So I'm not sure they will release pure google phone like Prime with incredible spec that will definitely give Bionic, iPhone5 very hard time.

what will you think of this phone if it doesn't have an expansion card slot?
If it has at least 16 GB of internal, I won't care. I don't put that much stuff on my phones, other than a bunch of e-books (which are tiny), 1 or 2 movies at a time, and a few apps. Nothing major. I don't think I've ever gone over 8 gigs

I would have to consider that, but it certainly wouldn't be a show-stopper for me, either. I have a 32GB card in my OG Droid with all 6 Star Wars movies and about 1000 songs on it. That eats up every bit of 16 gig. Could I retool and only put a few movies on it? Sure. I would much PREFER to have a removable card simply because of the versatility... but considering the sheer speed of internal memory, I don't really NEED it.

I'm on Sprint. I have the Epic and I really don't like it. I have been considering the Photon4g. But I was looking at the Nexus S 4g. I really like the idea of a phone free of proprietary bloatware that is pure. Ice Cream wouldn't hurt. Now I'm thinking of delaying my upgrade for another couple of months to see if this phone could be for me after reading about it here. I am concerned that Samsung might be the manufacturer. This is my second Samsung and I can say that I haven't liked either phone.

I highly, highly doubt they will announce Prime at IFA. It's a Google phone, and it will most likely be announced by Google at an appropriate date.
The IFA, in my opinion, is strictly for Europe and Asia. Anything I see there, I'm not going to drool over because I know the US won't see it until at least Spring 2012, and there's no way I'm waiting that long.
As for when Prime drops, I'm thinking it will probably be a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. But with wifi certification last week, it could be a lot sooner. I think we'll have a much better idea once it passes through the FCC.

Two months is an eternity in the cell phone world. Things happen on the scale of weeks, not months. The OG Droiders and Incredible owners are coming off contract and they want to scarf up as many of those folks as they can.
Yes, a lot of people are jumping on Charge and Bionic, and a few of them are waiting on iPhone 5. A lot of us are hanging on, waiting... but we can only wait so long. My guess is sometime in mid- to late-October / early November... which means we should see something go across FCC's desk in about a month.

This is usually the case, but I've been jaded by the whole Bionic fiasco. I was dead set on getting it back in July, but everything about how it was handled, coupled with a superior device coming from Samsung "soon", spoiled it.
I hope you're right, Chief, and we see this baby sometime in October.

Edit: Over on Androidcentral they're saying that P3Droid (who had access to Prime firmware until Samsung told him to shut up about it) is claiming that the GT-i9250 isn't the Prime. So this WVGA screened phone is probably the SGSII Plus or something. Hopefully.
But if that's true, that means that Prime hasn't just gotten wifi certification, this WVGA phone did. Argh! I should stay away from Google.

Hell the OG Droid is 2 years old and packs 480 x 854! What are they THINKING???
It had better be a STUNNING piece of hardware if I'm gonna sport a phone with lower resolution than my Droid!
EDIT to bluefire's edit: I certainly hope they got the model numbers backward on this one. The numbers are very similar. The Prime wouldn't be very much of a Prime with a WVGA display. Unless they can't pack enough battery into it, it needs to be at least SuperAMOLED+, if not HD.

Well, we gotta give credit where credit is due: Tesusenoh posted the link in the Stratosphere forum, so I decided it was good enough news to repeat it here. Come on, Prime!

I'm right there with you! I could see myself getting this and not feeling any envy if/when Prime comes out, provided it's released very soon.
Me too, although the 1.5GHz may very well be Tegra2 (meaning not faster than existing 1.2GHz Exynos). I'd assumed that qHD would be a requirement for me, but really I'd be happy w/the Charge's WVGA SAMOLED+ for the next 2yrs.

Me too. IMHO SAMOLED+ really outshines qHD, except maybe in the direct sunlight department, but it's not by much. And the crispness, color, and vibrancy more than make up for it.
I don't like the Tegra2, but the equivalent of 1.2GHz Exynos is still faster than 1GHz OMAP 4430, right?
And with the battery capacity that large, I doubt it'll be much of a problem.
Come on, Verizon! The ball is surely in your court, you Moto-loving locked-bootloader-adoring morons!

I think so, but not sure. These are benchmark results that people seem to refer to, but it looks inconsistent to me. SGS2 with only 1GHz Exynos?
FWIW, both OMAP4 and Exynos are A9-based while Tegra2 is A8-based, so the first two should perform roughly 25% better per clock in CPU stressing situations. Tegra2 has very good graphics speed though.
Oops wrong, Tegra2 is A9-based. Maybe I was thinking of Snapdragon's Scorpion cores, which are similar to ARM A8.

Reason: I was confused on Tegra2

Where did you see tegra2 is A8 based? Tegra2 is also A9 based. It's still very potent AP, architecture wise. But Exynos, OMAP have better overclock potential due to better power efficiency. I don't think this 1.5Ghz AP in this LTE SGSII is tegra2 as 1.5Ghz would be overkill for tegra2. I think it's qualcomm snapdragon s3 or s4 (28nm, integrated LTE).

Just to clarify, this LTE SGSII to be announced at IFA Berlin is Celox (code name) that leaked before. Nexus Prime will be different phone with Super AMOLED HD display, ICS. I think that WVGA report is some sort of error. I'm 99% certain it's HD display.

SAMOLED is the tech behind how a display works and qHD is a resolution. It is possible to have a screen be both Super AMOLED and qHD. I do agree with you oh how SAMOLED looks. AMOLED in general is gorgeous. Feel in love with it on my HTC Incredible. Wish the screen never broke because they replaced my whole phone and now I have Super LED. :-(

Just getting in the Nexus Prime info line... Hoping it comes to Verizon, and still hoping it has the "amazing" camera mentioned in the first rumors a few months ago. Back then, the rumor was lower megapixel rating (5 was mentioned), but a phenomenal sensor and excellent low-light performance. I personally think it'd be great if they stuck to 5MP with unbeaten picture quality. Then again, I'm still waiting for a phone with a real flash, instead of this LED crap.
I've seen some people saying it won't be LTE, and I personally think they're out of their minds.
