fancy widgets actually has the htc-ish widget. plus you can change the theme to honeycomb or others. the free version has plenty of customizations, select your own weather app to open when you tap the forecast...

i'm sure this has been posted, but here's the pertinent part of panda/blackmannx's poem

"as bean counters try to figuare
how with super-phones aplenty
with skins good and plenty

can they make a pretty penny
on a device with no bloat like so many
that adorn their shelves so pretty..
As thanksgiving doth approach
and turkey’s doth croak

a panda holds his belly and cries
As full as a tick

I would use Chrome to tick
as Online only looks like the pick"

sounds like it'll be online only before thanksgiving (it says "as TG approaches")

For what it's worth, I just got back from a Verizon store (corporate) and played with the Razor. I was impressed by how thin it was, but as some have said it does seem quite wide.

The manager came up to me and I asked him about the Gnex and he said he knew it was going to be released within two weeks, "I can tell you that for a fact." He also said they had already received accessories.

I don't care how they sell this phone, so long as I can get it soon. Hang in there little Eris...

I think that this poem only represents his opinion, not anything he's hearing. He's already said in previous posts that Google has no idea what Verizon will do, and that's it up to them.

Also, the VP from Google, in that news video with Fox Business, responded "It's their phone" when he was asked when it would release.

On the other hand, there are now three independent people (BMX, Kellex, and Phil from A/C) whom have heard that there is a good possibility this phone will be offered online.

Maybe it is indeed online to begin with, in stores at a later date.

Yeah, that's true. Good point. I forgot that BMX used to work for Verizon, so I'm sure he's got friends in high places there.

I feel, though, that not even the higher ups in Verizon know exactly when it's releasing. My sister called it a "soft launch date" that could change at any time. I think they're trying to hedge their bets as much as possible, and with the RAZR selling poorly so far by certain reports, they're probably rethinking their strategy.

If Google doesn't know what Verizon is doing, that means that there was no contractual obligation to release it on a certain date, like there might be with other manufacturers. Verizon might be stalling in order to sell off more of the RAZRs and those, um, HTC phones.

I'm thinking Verizon probably overestimated the public's desire for the RAZR, and underestimated their desire (not just ours) for the SGN, and they're trying to figure out what to do.

i don't think the gnex is the reason why razr isn't selling. i think it's the iphone 4s.

What if it's online only, full price, warranties go thru Samsung,or goggle but can be used on Verizon's network. And Verizon gets to sell accessories. And charge you to activate. No subsidies.

I'm thinking of buying the RAZR and exchanging it later for the GNex. Would this be easy to do? I'm ok with paying the exchange/termination fee because I am travelling this week and would like to test out the RAZR and have fun with it. What if it is online only? How would I exchange it then?

I did just that / am planning on doing just that. I bought the RAZR from Best Buy last night. They have a 14 day full return - meaning I can return the phone and still have my upgrade available and a 30 day exchange which means that I can swap out the RAZR for another RAZR or another phone (I'd have to pay the difference and being that SGN will be 299 [most likely] it would be a straight swap).

The only thing I'm not sure about is whether Best Buy will offer the SGN online at the same time that Verizon does. If they do not, then I am hoping verizon releases it within 14 days to make things easier for me. Either way, I have a new phone to replace my original Moto Droid and, as long as it is released in the next 29 days, I will be getting the SGN.

Default Galaxy Nexus Puzzle #1

About puzzle #1.

If you use signal flags to fit in each android figure (each time the two ends of flags represented by dots, but with having multiple in each figure), you get the following message: "what did J Cook call Hawaii".

So the answer must be the Sandwich Islands or Owyhee. The first of course relating to ICS.

I think you can say it has been solved. Unfortunately someone already tweeted the Sandwich Islands 3 hours ago (all-in-all only a few people)

signal flags: anbg.gov.au/flags/semaphore.html

I played with the RAZR and as cool and fast as it was, the only thing it really does to outperform my DInc 2 is web browsing and opening apps fast. I know that for some this is huge but it doesn't make me want to jump the GNex ship for it. Hell, with ADW EX, Spare Parts, and a little overclock sometimes, my DInc 2 does everything that the RAZR does in terms of screen swiping, general navigation of menus and normal day to day stuff. Plus, the wife is stoked to get the DInc 2...so hurry up Verizon!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice first post. You have proven one thing that I was sure of in the beginning, I am completely out of my league with these puzzles. I'm going back to my Rubic's cube which used to make me feel smart.

Welcome to the forum!

So the answer must be the Sandwich Islands or Owyhee. The first of course relating to ICS.

I think you can say it has been solved. Unfortunately someone already tweeted the Sandwich Islands 3 hours ago (all-in-all only a few people)

Wow... I'm impressed. Welcome!

Edit: Here's the deal, guys
. Our Source said they weren't going to be pushing the Nexus as hard as the Razr or the ReZound. Don't be surpised. I'm sure VZW wants as many folks as possible to be these other phones. That's why they're keeping the release date back. If you have to buy them, buy them. If you can hold out for the Nexus, you do well.

So now you are saying it isn't going to be the 17th like your sources say? More like the 21st or even later?

No disrespect to the sources, but that's been extremely obvious since the beginning. With no bloatware and Samsung and Google in control of the Nexus, Verizon really isn't worried about selling the Nexus. Especially with none of their bloatware on it.

I think by holding it back he meant that they are not leaking or announcing the release date prior to the release

Wait...Not announce a release date prior to a release? So your saying they are just going to throw it on the shelves without saying one word?

I think the 21st web offer may have been correct. If its not coming out this month. I'm not going to worry this phone anymore. I'll get it when i get it.

Also, someone explain the bloatware to me. How does verizon make more money off them? Is it third party apps which they get a piece of the pie from? Otherwise, i don't see how bloatware is making verizon push the nexus back.

That's one of the thoughts that have been thrown around is that they will do a soft release. Basically put the phones out on the shelves with no press release or advertising.

Oh, I thought a soft release was more just keep it on the DL till a few days before then make an announcement, and a regular release (like the RAZR) is announce the release date a week or 2 before, and advertise the crap out of it. I guess I was mistaken. Soft release = no release date announcement. Got it.

I never saw the question. I only saw the image. Thanks for clearing that up. I just found a link to the picture, took a wild shot in the dark, and posted it. I should probably pay more attention tomorrow.

Funny how Google is finding ways to keep us interested in the Galaxy Nexus until Verizon releases it.

Web Only eliminates any possibility of the nexus line going more main stream I think, which is kind of disappointing. Still not sure why stores would get accessories though....are there that many people that shop at VZW for accessories after they buy the phone?

It just goes to show that Google doesn't have the clout necessary to demand everything from Verizon like Apple would. Maybe someday.

If Verizon was smart (yes I know I'm asking a lot) they would release the phone on the 17th. This will result in the phone being in the market and seen by others who don't have it. They ask what it is and look for a black Friday sale (even though there wouldn't be one). More accessories would be sold and move people in your store.

I agree. To me that just doesn't line up. We are getting reports that stores are receiving accessories. If it is gonna be a web only release what's the point of in store accessories.

There's two types of bloatware. This is speculation but I think it's very likely how it works.

There's 3rd party stuff like Blockbuster and City ID which Verizon likely gets paid based on how many phones they're able to install it on.

The other type is VZW proprietory services like VCast, VZTones, VZMusic, VZNavigator, VZAppstore, and VZ-anything-else-I'm-forgetting, where Verizon makes money from end users firing those apps up after the sale and buying stuff.

I hate to say it but no one has the clout Apple does, and its not because of their product quality. Its because they know how to advertise. Advertising gets the 'uninformed' to buy your product and that's where the biggest market is.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Great explanation.

I will add though that the reason most of it consider it "Bloat" is that we don't want/use it and are not able to remove it from our phones because they block it from being uninstalled without rooting.
