So here's my question...if they're releasing the Galaxy Nexus in the UK with ICS (hey it actually works evidently), then what excuse does Verizon have left? Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

Lol. I'm pretty sure you don't know any I haven't already heard. None of which (and that includes basically every Navy joke) are appropriate for the forum.

Oh I was also going to add... now that its in warehouses who wants to try ordering it earlythrough a CSR the way people did with the Rezound? I would say if you do it mention it by the model number SCH-i515 and not Galaxy Nexus. Either they would have no idea what you are talking about or they would know not to sell a Nexus. I bet telling them to check the inventory of the i515 would have more chance of going through.
I just tried this with one of the VZW CSR folks on their website. Unfortunately I wasn't able to order one(Shocking, I know).
However after I mentioned possibly jumping ship he did recommend that i wait cause "it should be out soon". I will of course take that with a grain of salt.

Yeah he probably got quieted because the UK release is officially slated for tomorrow.
Should have no indication of a US release date.

True dat... well, all joking aside, we're glad to have you as part of the forum
I wonder if Steven's Source will be of much help anymore, too b/c he stated that recently he's been out of the loop bc of some unsaid reason..... i wonder if leaks will be few and far between also.

So Prime Suspect just got cancelled. Stupid, stupid NBC. First Community gets bumped for 30Rock (it was once interesting, now it's tired and idiotic), and now this. Who runs NBC, Verizon?

How 'bout that Nexus, eh? The most almost-real unicorn we ever did see.

If true, I wonder how many potential Verizon converts will just buy a Skyrocket and put CM9 on it. Every week is more and more people who are just going to wait instead of jumping ship. Not the brightest business decision.

I can hope!

I know there's a lot of hate for Verizon right now. Some is well founded and some is not, but I put a lot of blame at the feet of Google and Samsung for this. My reasons are this:
Google, as much as I like what they have invented and acheived, is a crazy company that isn't exactly run well. They have little focus and seem to be much of the "let's throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and see what sticks" mentality. This allows for some great successes such as Android, but some failures too -- Wave, google buzz, and maybe google tv.
Partnering with a manufacture to build a phone to their specs is an admirable goal, but they have absolutely no clout to get the carriers to release it in a timely manner. Some might say that Samsung would have more clout to do so, and I'd agree, but the Galaxy Nexus is just a small part of Samsung's portfolio, and I doubt it will create a large amount of revenue for them. They just don't have the interest to market it as much as their other Galaxy phones.
Which brings us back to Verizon. They're not in the business to sell phones, they want to sell contracts. They don't care what phone they sell as long as it is popular and brings more customers to them. There's only one company that I know of who can completely dictate terms to the carriers and that's Apple, and it's because of the iphone's popularity regardless of how people on this board feel about it. It's completely because of their "walled garden" that has proven to be successful that they can say ,"here's our new product, here's how much it will cost, and here's when and where you can buy it".
If Google wants the Nexus to be a success (which I'm not so sure they do because I think to them it's just another experiment) they should market the hell out of this phone by showing it's capabilities, and highlight the fact that updates will be regularly pushed out. Heck they could coin a phrase like "future proof". If they do that and sell millions of these, then the next time they have a Nexus to sell, they will have a proven track record of success and will have more clout with the carriers and manufactures, eventually giving us what we want -- a smooth and problem free launch.

One thing is possibly for sure--Verizon is absolutely monitoring these forums right now....so there could be some U.S. related release possibilities. I think they monitor these forums b/c there must be some correlation between this forum and the hits that Youtube is getting.

On a sidenote yet perhaps somewhat related to people's next phone selection, the HTC Incredible is finally getting Gingerbread after months of delay. They are rolling out a patch to fix the first OTA which was problematic, then directly after that, they're rolling out a final patch which is finished GB. Unfortunately, this is causing many people's cache to be too full and it's failing.
I cannot wait for Google/Nexus updates. One of the may reasons my patience level is still doing just fine.

If you've listened to any samsung/google interviews since the announcment in Hong Kong, they are begging verizon to announce it. They can't do anything about it now.

Maybe. But, who's the biggest dog in this show, the UK or the US? (No slur intended for our UK brethren)
Traditionally the UK (and Europe) has been way ahead of the US in terms of mobile phone technology. It's only recently that the US has just about caught up, so perhaps they're still stuck in that mindset.

Exactly. It's because they have little clout and have botched the launch from the get go.

Interesting post. I see some of your points, but you can't ignore the fact that Google promised November, and UK is delivering. If there is a problem in the U.S. with November, it falls to the only variable that's not in the equation in Europe: Verizon.
Unfortunately, releasing Android in an open-source format is a two-edged sword. On the one hand, you enrich the dev experience many times over that of Apple lovers. On the other hand, you have no leverage. You can't tell Verizon "Look, if you don't release this by such and such date, we're pulling Android from you", because they effectively don't own Android, even though they create it.

Explanation: (hidden for those who don't care)
In their devices, HTC have installed a sort of security check whose level is determined by S-OFF/S-ON. Essentially, this security level is a flag stored on the device’s radio that checks signature images for any firmware before it is allowed to be written to system memory. This hinders using any custom ROMs, splash images, recovery etc., and also restricts access to the NAND flash memory. However, when security level is set to S-OFF, the signature check is bypassed, allowing a user to upload custom firmware images, unsigned boot, recovery, splash and HBOOT images, as well as official firmware that has been modified, this enabling maximum customization of your HTC Android device.
Furthermore, S-OFF also reduces restrictions on accessing the NAND flash memory on the device, allowing all partitions (including /system) to be mounted in write mode while the operating system is booted.

What has samsung/google done to botch the launch?!? They are launching UK tomorrow. Same time frame they promised. BMX has said that the phones have been sent to Verizon, at this point there's one finger to point, and it's at Verizon.

For anyone wondering, so far, my experience with the Rezound (for anyone considering one until the GNex comes out) is that whoever stupidly designed its power button and volume controls had to have had love for medieval torture devices. They'd have been better off making those into capacitive buttons given how hard they are to find and press since they are way too flush with the chassis. This is what i get for saying that the RAZR's power button felt a bit cheap, I suppose. Here's hoping for a Goldilocks and the Three Bears ending wherein the GNex's buttons are "just right".
