Thats not what the return policy on their site says.
"Purchases (excluding tablets and accessories) made between November 15 and December 28, 2011 may be returned or exchanged through January 9, 2012, subject to a $35 restock fee for wireless devices. All other provisions of Verizon Wireless’ Return & Exchange Policy continue to apply."
You were told wrong.
I'm mostly worried about this line. Thanks for the link and info, I will inquire more tomorrow in a chat with a csr.
Edit: I'm gonna try again. They mentioned an email that said "Future Acitvations" and mentioned 45 days. ANY VZW EMPLOYEES HERE?

I can't help but feel like I am in a room with two beautiful brunette virgins. There is promise of a even more beautiful blonde virgin about to show up any minute. But because she hasn't called ahead, I'm not really sure she's coming. I want to wait for the third, but the first two seem so attractive. I'm feeling weaker by the second...
Weird analogy I know, forgive me, but this whole thing is wierd. We are absolutely over obsessing over an over a piece of technology...
Welcome to the show...
Yes we are obsessing over technology.... but we know what we want

Does vzw consider purchase = activate? I think that might be the difference on the extended return policy.

Well Google did release the Android source code in November, so they technically held up their end of the promise. Verizon just needs to figure it out.

So as fun as it was to believe the RAZR conspiracy theory (don't release or it will kill RAZR sales), Verizon hasn't released the GNex because honestly it's not ready for thier network.
If that was the case with the RAZR, then they wouldn't have released the Rezound 3 days later.
Didn't we also hear from The Source that it was NOT a hardware or software problem but rather management/corporate reasons? If it was a software problem, it must have been really serious to warrant pushing out the phone and not just releasing an OTA. The one report was of exchange problems, so I guess if your theory is right, they felt it was serious enough to warrant delaying the release. We also have had Google and Samsung both say it was ready to go and was in Verizon's hands. I still like the explanation that someone gave (sorry, too lazy to go back and look to give the OP credit) that the SGN was set to release 11/3-ish, and was pushed and rather than trampling the RAZR release, they pushed it out a bit.

Wait, so I can bill the phone to my account, then pay it off month-by-month or something? If you have the cash to pay your VZW bill, why not just pay with your debit/credit card?

it helps to get bill, if you dont have the cash up front. You do have to pay it by the bill is due.

I think she thought I was really banking on tomorrow (11/17). But I’ll be happy with 21.
I just hope that she’s not assuming Monday, and that they actually said it. Because she says “week of” and then “Monday”.
I texted back asking if she specifically heard Monday, or just the week. She hasn’t texted back yet. She has a tendency to disappear.

It jives with what the VP told me over the phone today, that they would certainly want to sell it before Black Friday. I just read a review of the Dinc2, and was getting all psyched for it. Looks like now I’ll probably only have it for a weekend.
I just hope that her info is definite and not "subject to change".

For those questioning the return policy this is how it worked last year. During Christmas season 2010 I bought my father a fascinate. I was told if activated we would have 14 days to return it if he did not like it. He did not like it before I was even able to show him the phone. We returned it 20 days after purchase date and received all $ back no 35$ fee. I have no clue if this applies now

My guess is it's the same thing here, otherwise it's just too good of a deal. Verizon couldn't release a better phone from here till Jan 9th or they could get returns. That wouldn't make business sense.
I know what the policy says, and MAYBE you could fight your way through the return, but I have a bad feeling banking on a rental period from here till Jan. 9
