" A good source within the industry has indicated that a lot of the rumors floating around about an impending launch of the Samsung Prime this month, are way off base. According to our source, the Verizon Samsung Prime will not be available this year, and that its release is "definitely" set for the first quarter of 2012. This is one time when we would prefer if our source was wrong. "

To answer your question, no.

The only thing that is delayed is the announcement , not the launch date. It does not matter if they announce it today, next week or what ever. The launch date will stay the same. So I say what delay?
Because then I can stop reading this thread and start waiting for this and my garmin FR 910xt to actually show up at my door.

You just agreed with my theory. They are postponing for better media coverage, not necessarily ONLY out of respect for SJ. Thats all im saying.

that's the same rumor posted over on DF earlier this week. i don't buy it. i think their wires are crossed, and they're talking about the Nexus device for the other carriers.

While I don't know much about P3Droid (have heard many good things about his reliability), BMX has always proven himself and his tweets trustworthy. Amidst all of the crazy release dates being thrown around with the ThunderBolt, he had predicted it correct since the very beginning. He is an inside and he definitely can be trusted.

They're both hand in hand. I'm not agreeing with your theory. They are postponing it out of respect for Jobs, who will likely be interred next week. I do not honestly believe they have any ulterior motives behind the postponement. They, like the rest of the tech world, have immense respect for Jobs, even though they are competitors. There's no point in being a conspiracy theorist about it.
The Following User Says Thank You to g_patrick15 For This Useful Post:
Exactly!!! I'm not believing any specs of the phone until it has been made official.
Not trying to be rude (I'm actually curious), but if this is the case, why exactly are you on this forum? Unless there is an official announcement from Google or Samsung, everything that you hear/read is ALL rumor. Now that being said, there are certain people on the forum, blogs, twitter, etc. that are highly respected and have been correct with the info they have provided before. We are all on hear trying to decipher what rumor is real or not and piece together to the best of our ability, the true Prime. Again, until we get an official announcement, everything on this board is pure rumor, but that makes the wait that much more fun for me.

Idk if it was said already but did anyone notice in the Samsung Unpacked Teaser the power button was on the right and the one in the new leaked video is on the left when he turns the screen off. The way the screens look when he is deciding to put a widget on it reminds me of TouchWiz 4. Could it be an overlay or a few TouchWiz parts added. Just saying. Could this be the Verizon one and the actual Nexus Phone will be a little different. Also, you know Verizon is somewhat hipped to OMAP. If it does have one, then maybe Verizon's is OMAP and the Google original is Exynos 1.5ghz. Remember the conflicting stories of GSM & BGR.

I understand your point. I'm not trying to be a "conspiracy theorist", I just have a different opinion and don't like to believe what people tell me without questioning it. Not saying I wouldnt like to believe, but I personally just find it unrealistic. Although it's pointless to debate the exact reasons why. The main point is that the announcement is delayed!
The Following User Says Thank You to Namrak For This Useful Post:
So, I think I know the answer, but what is the likelyhood that they are only delaying the announcement--coming out and officially saying the specs and everything--to improve on hardware. I mean, are we at a point where they would already have thousands of units built? So, is this more likely a hardware upgrade or software? It sounds liksoftware from vz-wired.

Yep, the important part is that the announcement will be delayed, which is unfortunate. However, I believe I can wait until it launches, especially seeing as I might have to wait awhile for it to hit AT&T.

dude, there are a couple of android phones offered by sprint that, personally, i'd pick up in a heartbeat over the iphone 4s. i mean, don't they have the SGSII?...honestly, if VZW had the SGSII right now, i'd already have it in my hands instead of worrying about when the prime is gonna hit the shelves. but that's just me, and my OG Droid is getting too long in the tooth.
(oh, and apple didn't release a version of their iphone on 3 out of the 4 major carriers in the US until 4 years after they first debuted the iphone. remember?...at&t exclusivity for a few years?)

This is a really good read for SoC nerds.. especially if you wan't to know why performance is more than just clock speed.
It's also interesting to note that for all people whine about Scorpion/Snapdragon.. it sure isn't baseline Cortex-A8
What's missing in that article is Samsung's new quad core Exynos with Maili-T604 GPU that will go into SGSIII next year. If Krait S4 is only 30% faster than A9 clock for clock, Sammy's new quad core Exynos beast will have no problem beating it hands down.

If there are indeed two prime phones, I could see them being on the same level as the Nexus One and the Droid Incredible, which were very similar in specs, and only had a few differences, the main one being Sense on the DInc.

ok, but we don't know which one is which, and which one is coming to vzw. if we assume 2 different devices, there are several possibilities:
1. VZW gets the pure, vanilla Nexus with the GSMArena specs
2. VZW gets the pure, vanilla Nexus with the BGR/DL specs
3. VZW gets the Touchwiz, non-stock Prime with the GSMArena specs
4. VZW gets the Touchwiz, non-stock Prime with the BGR/DL specs
i'm using VZW in these examples, since most believe VZW will have an exclusive ICS device at least for a while.

Exynos isn't all that much faster than baseline A9 either.. it's real power is that Mali400 is one of the best performing GPUs on the market, with room to spare at 200MHz..
Check out the discussion of Adreno 225 on page 3... hoooly crap. Qualcomm (and Samsung) know that the future of SoC performance is in the GPU, not necessarily in the CPU..
I thought it was interesting that Krait supports dual channel PoP now, too..
Dual channel LPDDR2 was very uncommon in SoC to this point, because you could only do a single channel PoP, had to put the other channel on the package..
Edit: Also, I haven't seen that Samsung has said anything about an Exynos quad-core. nVidia and Qualcomm are the only ones who have even paper-launched quad-core.

I must respectfully disagree. To me, that is clearly an new version of Android's stock launcher. Also, Touchwiz includes their power widget in the status bar, which is not present in this video (even though I wish stock Android would include that). Touchwiz has always been quite a distinct overlay and I just don't see that here. Just MHO

There ARE several possibilities. However, since that leak this morning was out of Germmany or something, so that's Europe and European bands, I would say that is the GSM phone. So, that's the phone for everyone else. Since VZ_Wired is saying that the BGR and Droid-life specs were wrong, and he obviously is, apparently, a Verizon Wireless employee of some sorts, I would say that Verizon is getting the better phone with the GSM Arena specs. I could have it backwards though. Every other carrier but Verizon got the GSII, so I can't see Verizon holding out for something less as good as what all of the other U.S. carriers are going to get in a month or two. Ya know? Just my thoughts.

Agreed. Though I see some similarity in the way widgets are added, it's looking like mostly stock ICS. I think that's somewhat old video with outdated proto-type hardware.

So the general consensus is that the video showcases an outdated prototype with an older version of ICS. and its not the VZW version since the video was from Germany?

Yeah, you're right. Maybe Ice Cream Sandwich just kinda has some borrowed features from Touchwhiz, which wouldn't be a bad thing. But you're right, I watched the video some more and that is the new version of Android. It just looks a lot different than what we're all used to, and I mean that in a VERY good way. Hey guys, just want to check in with a few things (sorry for the longer post):
1. During our breaks (and non-breaks, lol) a bunch of us surf the forums on our phones and laptops, and we compare a lot of what we hear vs. what's the truth. I just want to say that BY FAR you guys (and gals) are the smartest group we're seeing. It's amazing how quick you guys are up to date on what's going on. Unfortunately, a lot of what's swirling around is utter bull, but still, you have no way of knowing that. And you're smart because you guys are SO DAMN CLOSE! Taking your posts piece by piece, from our perspective, we can pretty much say that you're spot on regarding what's coming for VZ. Unfortunately, you're all contradicting each other so it gets muddy, but hilarious.
2. CTIA announcement date is NOT 10/27.
3. Release date is NOT 10/27.
Again, it's subject to change, but from what I know it won't.
Please, hang in there people. You will be very satisfied with this phone. I, as well as 6 other guys I work with, are buying this phone at an unsubsidized price (no, I don't get a discount on hardware, only plan).
We've had our hands on it, and it's a total beast.

But it also didn't have a SIM card in it, so would that matter in terms of bands?

Yeah, that's how I feel. How could a German tester test a Verizon 4G Nexus device when there isn't even Verizon CDMA OR Verizon LTE in Germany? Unless, of course, the video was taken in the United States and leaked through a German website, which I find hard to believe.
