Bing isn't bad, but I think a Google phone should have google. However, if Bing came to my house and offered me millions to start using it, I would switch in a heartbeat. Basically, that's what MS did to Verizon. They made some deals for Bing to be the default search engine on some phones. Even Apple made that deal, since MS was handing out cash.
Yeah, and then Microsoft got wise and realized why pay to support Bing when they could just get royalties from Android itself. Amazing how quick Bing disappeared once MS started getting kickbacks.

I was hoping for better reviews considering they went with a 5MP. The zero shutter lag was more costly than I originally thought.
There was a review recently comparing the GNex vs SGSII camera. They were close for most shots, with the nod going to the GNex. But night shots weren't even in the same ballpark. Gnex was far and away better.
It was stated that Google picked the 5MP sensor for superior low light performance.
I'll see if I can find the comparison.

Since there's still some controversy about how this holiday return policy works, I thought I'd chime in with some thoughts.
It's clear that different verizon reps are saying different things. I myself have heard two different things from two reps as I mentioned in my earlier (and first ever) post. Below is from the transcript I had with an online rep.

But it's also true that when I went into my local corporate store to buy the phone, the in-store sales rep mentioned I had 14 days from activation and that the holiday return date was for unactivated phones.
Based on this and the disagreement that seems to be raging on the board, we can all agree that different reps are saying different things. So that said, here are some things maybe worth considering.
First, a post a while back, someone mentioned that sales reps have an incentive for people not to return phones (something about how returns indicate that they didnt let the customer leave with the right phone?). I don't recall the exact logic, or incentive structure, but if something like this is true (and anyone more in the know please let us know!) that might help explain why some sales reps insist on 14 days from activation. They don't want to encourage you returning the phone! If this reasoning has any merit, it could also imply that a different rep wouldn't have any particular interest in refusing a return. Indeed, he or she is probably incentivized (via commission) to accept the return if you explain you plan to just immediately pick up a nexus.
Second, in my judgment, just looking at the text of the holiday return policy, it seems to mean that you have until Jan 15, full stop (no caveats about activation). (btw, this very text is reproduced on the receipt of the rezound i purchased today).
Third, that said, fine print isn't just small, it's normally tricky. So I don't rule out that in a sneaky legalistic way, the exact wording of the policy somehow leaves open not letting us return past 14 days. If anyone on the board can clearly spell out how this might be the case, I'm sure it'd be greatly appreciated.
Fourth, even assuming that we get in writing/get a note in our accounts from one rep that says we can return the phones up until Jan. 15, there is no guarantee that we won't be met by an arbitrary rep/manager who just refuses to honor it. I haven't had personal experience with this kind of thing at verizon myself, but as some people have said above, this kind of thing is certainly not unheard of at verizon. Maybe if it comes to this, you might just try a couple of different locations.
Finally, so given all this, I don't think there's some definitive answer as to what to do. As with most things, the best move is to weigh all the considerations and see what comes out on top all things considered. There's definitely risk. and on the other side of things, it's certainly not the case that you have 14 days from activation to return and you are so screwed if you try to "rent" is the correct answer as some posters have seemed to suggest.

Just got a razr with the full intention of returning for the Nexus. To be honest, it's no nexus, but it's pretty nice. Just glad to have a working smartphone for the next week and a half or so.
I got it at best buy, and I asked her probably 5 times (just to make sure) about returning it and getting my money back and reversing my upgrade. She said that is no problem at all...I can return it within 14 days to get my money back and get my verizon upgrade back. The verizon upgrade reversal takes about 1 day to go through, but that's no problem.
Best part is...no restocking fee at best buy. I'm borrowing this phone for free, basically.

Someone over at AC just pointed out that is you search Verizon's site for "Galaxy Nexus" you get a results pages with the Nexus banner up top, but if you search "Nexus Prime" you get redirected straight to the sign-up page. Interesting.
This means nothing except that Verizon is putting keywords in their metadata to try to match possible search terms customers might use. They know that the GN was called the "Nexus Prime" in the press for months, so they want to make sure anybody who searches using that name finds what they're looking for.
Search for "Vigor" and you'll get taken to a page listing all of HTC's phones. Same reason.
If it's a little inconsistent, it's just because the metadata is inconsistent from page to page. I'm involved in this kind of stuff professionally, so believe me, it's hard to get it right.

Is anyone else a little bothered by the so-so reviews the camera on the SGN is receiving?
Yeah kinda bummed about the poor performance in low-light conditions (concerts, bars, etc.) but I'll get over it. That was the only knock and the pictures I saw looked very good. Plus the panoramics look awesome.

From what I know, smartphone data plans are different from standard phone data plans so even if you have unlimited data plan for a standard phone now, it wont transition to unlimited data plan for smartphones. I asked Verizon about this before they tiered their data plans and this is what they told me...
Yeah I work in IT and in my experience this is the case, unless something has changed...which is why I brought it up.

Not so good sir...the last review I saw compared the GNex camera with the GSII, and the GNex blew the GSII away in low light. Daylight were basically the same. IMHO, this is the second best camera out there (second only to the iPhone 4S)

I agree, I successfully talked my own self out of going to pick one up. I don't really want to deal with a "temporary" brand new phone, and there's nothing extremely intriguing about either R-phones that I would want so badly that I can't wait.

But otherwise the same thing that happens when you drop and break any phone. They took my 14 day old Incredible back, even though that saw the pavement a few times (just some small scratches).

True, but again that's the same scenerio for any phone, regardless if you are renting or not. Either pay for the insurance, or assume the risk.
Note that I don't support renting, unless its to honestly give the other handsets a chance.

Pretty sure that if you have to use the insurance it's a done deal because you may get a refurbished phone as a replacement...so you break it (or ding it or scratch it or anything)...you bought it

It was rumored that a fix was being pushed soon. This may be some good news.
Yeah. If it's true I figure it could be good news. Not sure how all this works, but would guess that such late updates could be performed at POS if the BF sales are really wanted by the right peeps within VZW.
I still have a feeling though that they are worried about getting the quota of beans from Droid RAZR sales they had planned and that is driving this launch time frame more than anything else as Hans sister kinda alluded to.

Why do people care so much about the camera being 5mp. You only need 8mp if you want to blow your pictures up to 8x10. Who on earth takes portrait photos of their family with a cell phone and blows it up to 8x10. My DX drives me nuts b/c it defaults to 8mp and I have to change the settings back to 3mp everytime I shoot snapshots with my phone.

i have been carrying my rental around in a microfiber bag made for sunglasses just to avoid any tiny scratch or ding. i wish i had the commitment to make sure the phones i actually keep stayed this pristine.
