Verizon called, gave me pretty much nothing.
Hey everybody, first time poster I've been following this thread some several thousand messages ago haha.
So I was inspired by Hansolo and wrote Verizon execs and I actually got a phone call back! (Not much about the Nexus, to skip straight to that, jump below) I wrote not just about the Nexus but...
My Droid's service has diminished since the installation of 4g in our area.
$300 for a phone that only lasts 18 out of the 24 months of a contract is total crap. My OG Droid is on its last leg. Phones' lifespans should last considerably longer for the price we pay.
My phone has an ever increasing number of problems as it ages.
The Bionic, and now Nexus, release fiascoes are ridiculous.
I didn't get much of a response but wanted to go ahead and share. YES, a CS rep, Ron T., from the executive's office did call me back. That in and of itself is impressive. Nice to see a company caring enough to call me. But honestly that's as good as it got.
I didn't get anything like Hansolo (no $50 credit, no offer for a replacement phone, etc, I've been a customer for 10+ yrs) The real sad thing about it is that they never once even said something like "I'm sorry sir, is there anything we can do to improve your experience?" They never once just offered to help, in any way. Just a simple "I'm sorry, what can I do?" That should be minimal, standard Customer Service. While the guy was friendly, he pretty much just gave me the... This is how it is, deal with it approach. The most "helpful" thing he mentioned was reminding me I could use my warranty replacement policy (which I pay 6.99 for) to get a new phone. That's it.
I appreciate Verizon getting back with me. They said they understand my concern. But they never offered any help with an appology. In the end I don't know that it made any bit of a difference. There was no pledge to improve the service coverage experience. I was told prices and plans aren't changing and they only "hope" the quality of technology improves. They're doing what they can about the Nexus.
Nexus info: The only thing the guy mentioned was he hadn't heard about any problems causing a delay (not so sure that I believe him there). The volume bug in the UK is tied to the radios and frequency over there, theoretically shouldn't have any impact in the US. And they'll release it by Christmas. It isn't much of anything, but it's what I got.
In short, I thank them for the call, but they really did nothing in the line of caring to make sure my experience with them is a positive one. Thanks for nothing VZ.

Now I just have to sell my ipad2 and pick me up a Nexus and I'll be happy for another six months!!
Congrats! Although I can't help but see the name Asus and think Wal-Mart (not that Wal-Mart is inherently bad. I shop there all the time, just not for electronics). I want to like it but maybe I'm just too uneducated about the Asus name brand.

So question about the Nexus Prime name. Could they have changed the name calling it the Nexus Prime and give us 32gb and Galaxy Nexus for everyone else would be 16gb? No matter what they call it I will be calling it Nexus hunny.

Grats! I got my Thrive a few months ago, and LOVE it! That, coupled with a good smartphone, really is a nice combo for mobile computing. I, like you, sold my iPad2 also (I sold mine about 8 weeks after getting it, and was GLAD to do so!)

Asus = Premiere hardware and support.
I used Asus motherboards exclusively when it was beneficial to build your own computer.
I tried out the transformer recently. It was excellent. I decided to wait for a tablet.

Thanks, I was not familiar with ASUS either but did some research and seems like a pretty decent product. I watched a number videos on Youtube with the tablet and keyboard together and thought it was awesome. The Transformer 1 has pretty good following as well. The T2 gets pretty good reviews and is scheduled to Ice Cream Sandwich very soon after the new year and if I'm not mistaken the first Android to do so. Here is a review from CNET, I know not great souce but it is a good basic run down. Asus Transformer Prime is dressed to impress | Android Atlas - CNET Reviews

I would consider it pretty choppy, viewed on a 27in imac. There is a lot going on in the video, it seems to focus on element fairly quickly, but frame rate seems low. But since it is a phone, I think it looks awesome!

It's not that bad. It's outdoors on one of those cloudy days where the sun is kind of bright but still behind clouds, and it looks like the major difficulty is in adjusting to different levels of light. It's very dark in some parts, then fine, then dark again.
For a phone, it looks really nice, actually. I don't know if people were expecting Blu-Ray quality recording since it says 1080p. But I don't see anything to be really disappointed in here.

Honestly, it looked FINE to me. Video from tower bridge (I think) in London. I viewed it at 1080p full screen on my laptop, and I thought it was smooth, crisp, and the colors looked good. I specifically noted the blue of tower bridge, which looked right (and I've seen the bridge in person). The video was lousy when they were looking down the bridge towards the low sun, but that's really more a photography issue than a quality of the camera issue if you ask me.
I would be completely satisfied if that was my vacation video from London.

Whats with all the talk about renting phones and the return policy?
Is it supposed to be cool these days to rip Verizon off by depreciating one of their devices just because you want a new phone right now while you wait for the GN?
I seem to understand this forum does not condone discussion of tethering via hacking ware. Is this not some kind of Mal method or procedure?
To me getting a device just so one can play with it will cause more harm than good. After they have had enough Verizon will just massage their return policy to the point that folks with legit reason's for returning a device will suffer. And I will not blame Verizon for doing it.
My guess is they will shorten it by 5 day first.
Maybe I'm missing something here.
Hmm, I respectfully disagree. Remember, Verizon doesn't really make money on selling the actual handset...they make money off of the contract you sign. They could care less what smartphone you purchase...as long as you buy one. If that means that you buy a RAZR, return it, buy a Rezound, return it, and get a Nexus...it's still just one contract.
However, you can factor in agreements and contracts with handset carriers such as Motorola. It sounds like they have a joint marketing agreement with DROID handsets and so Verizon is more inclined to sell DROID handsets. But I'm guessing it's just to the extent of marketing.
Also, I heard (on this forum) that Verizon always institutes an extended return policy during the holidays to allow customers more flexibility for returns. At the end of the day, it brings in more customers because they feel comfortable with the fact that they can return handsets if they want to.
They know what's going on and they've already calculated the potential ramifications of refurbished handsets.
P.S. If you think about it, it creates another potential market that reaches more customers. There are a certain number of customers out there who purchase phones based on price. Some people don't mind a slightly used, but perfectly functioning phone for free over the same phone for $100. Not everyone shops smartly (like taking advantage of the Amazon Wireless sale going on right now) but still want to save...

Asus also is one of the few companies that actually manufacturers notebooks/laptops, and builds some of the dells, hp, apple products. I had an Asus notebook, it was a really nice machine. There mobo's are fantastic for geeks that wanna overclock. Very well built.

eh, those are difficult lighting situations - dark buildings, with light behind them. He panned pretty quickly, too. The camera was trying to adjust to lighting, but he panned quickly, and I don't think he gave the camera long enough to adjust.

I agree to some point -- I guess hating is a better word.
XDA is filled with people who are hating on the phone and don't even have one yet and I am sure they are just frustrated with the fact that its not out in the US yet.

Are you going to go away from the GNex for good? Or repurchase when they fix the issue?
It depends how they fix it. It's been proven to be a hardware issue, so if they release new handsets with the issue fixed I'll be all over it, I love the phone and I'm sure you guys will to.
If they release some sort of half arsed software patch to mask the issue, I'll have to take a view as to how that affected the phone's performance. Looks like you guys in the US should have no such issues.

Pardon us a minute while we read way too much into something. The screen you see here is what indirect Verizon retailers -- as in not a corporate-branded store -- now see to order their own Samsung Galaxy Nexus stock. And note that it says Samsung Galaxy Nexus, not Samsung Nexus Prime, which reappeared on a Best Buy flyer first posted in our Galaxy Nexus forums last night.
Point is, it's still coming to Verizon ... eventually ... and we're still expecting it to be the Galaxy Nexus. Probably.

I know we've talked the USB Mass Storage thing to death already, but I just wanted to let all Mac users (like myself) know that Macs will be able to utilize the Mass Transfer Protocol that is replacing the USB Mass Storage in the Nexus. All we have to do is download an extra app called Android File Transfer to our computers.

Asus makes motherboards, along with gigabyte they are the most trusted choice for pc enthusiast
Edit: actually I bet you were thinking of ACER not Asus

Wait. So the price is $619? Or is that the direct retailer cost? And they can pre-order for customers, or just themselves? But yes, Galaxy Nexus. Best Buy was just lazy in updating the name.
