Apparently they have their own "secret police" now!
Android manufacturers should learn a thing or two from Apple about marketing their products. Every time they're going to introduce a new product they need to take it out of the local bar and lose it, call the media and sit back and laugh. No budgets at all just deny everything and send the police after them. I can see the headline now" Google loses revolutionary new Nexus prime" .What's even more amazing is that all the Apple fan boys get on TV and profess that Apple would never do anything like this on purpose. Lord help us!

Today, on Black_man_x's twitter:

Apparently regarding ICS:

Quote:
Final software almost ready n shipping to hardware partners. Code monkeys get work done..
And earlier, a user named Tommmy_29, referring to passing up the Bionic in favor of waiting for Prime:

Quote:
@black_man_x its going to take all my will power to pass on the bionic.
And black_man_x's response:

Quote:
lol doubt it.. but wont be out by much of a lead..
So, if ICS is shipping out to hardware partners soon (Samsung), it should be polished and ready to go.

I'm not sure what he meant by the "won't be out by much of a lead", but it sounds like the Prime won't be too late coming to the party.

Let's see: Droid 3 came out mid-July, Droid Bionic early September... so my best SWAG here is Droid Prime on Thursday, October 20th at best, and November 10th latest. The iPhone 5 is coming fast (IF they can stop losing the things in bars ) and Google/Samsung wants to beat it to the punch so they can grab as many OG Droiders - coming off contract in a hurry - as possible.

What say you?

@bluefire; I've looked at both twitter feeds and I do believe black_man_x was referring to the wait not being long on the Vigor, not the Prime. I would cut and paste but I don't have the time at the moment.

Taking what @chief said about recent release scheduling, it looks like it will be Bionic, then Vigor in October, then Prime in November.

It's kind of hard to tell. . ."Tommy" keeps referring to both Vigor and Prime. Although black_man_x does refer to knowing both release dates, and that the Vigor will release first.

I agree with your general idea of a release schedule. It's still not terrible.

Well, THAT kinda sucks raw eggs... I forgot about the Vigor (yet another phone I'm not interested in). Okay, maybe November. But that's really, really pushing the life span of my poor Droid.

What say you?
Some research revealed that recent first day sales of new iPhone models, such as the Verizon iPhone back in February and the iPhone 4 on AT&T June 2010 were high. I would assume the rumored iPhone 5 will have considerable demand. And I would also assume that Samsung knows it needs to get the Prime to market as soon as it can. Some people may not want to wait for a Prime. Samsung needs to get the Prime out before the iPhone 5 makes it debut, or very shortly thereafter - maybe within two or three weeks - or risk losing sales to the iPhone. Just my opinion.

I'd wait until December for the Prime if I had to. Time is a wicked drug if you let it get to you. I go about life and when it's time, it's time. The wait will be WELL worth it.

Sure we will have to endure everyone getting their shiny new handsets but beleive this, when the Prime is announced we will be sitting like kings. This thing will be a beast and our patience will pay off ten fold.

The newness wears off real quick when the barrage of new handsets start leaking, then comes the regret. I've seen it time and time again. The young lions get wild eyed and crazy when they see food and don't know how to handle themselves

They end up killing a 180 lb Thompsons Gazelle and remain hungry while the older more experienced lay in wait and ambush the 2000 lb Water Buffalo and have a feast.

I've got my eye on the Water Buffalo who wants to hunt with me?

Yes sir i agree....especially when you have waited for what seems like years for that "perfect" phone to come out. I cannot stress enough of how I have not been this excited for a handset release since October of 09. Thats an eternity in tech years : )

I'm practicing my hunt with the Droid Bionic Arena app. Chance to win a TV, Laptop, Tablet, or Quadcoptor.

Your story reminds me of another.

Two Bulls are standing at the top of a hill looking at several cows grazing in the meadow below them. One bull says to the other: "Hey dad, Let's run down this hill and screw one of those cows." The father replied: "You go ahead son. I'd rather walk down the hill and screw them all."

Good things come to those who wait.

Man, I hope Verizon didn't put up the BIONIC to compete head-to-head with the iPhone 5! We have got to get Prime in a position to take that device head on and win. Now Google and Samsung's gonna be under some serious pressure. I fear, though, that they still have wifi cert and FCC approval to go through, as well as final production and distribution to retailers. It's a dream to have the Prime on Verizon October 6th, but I'm still thinking the 20th at the earliest.

Fear not, Joe: We here at Primers Anonymous are your support group. You must resist the Bionic! Try this mantra:

Bionic is not a 2 year phone. Its a 3 month wish I would have waited to get_insert other device here_phone.....Prime is EASILY a 2 year phone. Chew on that for a bit

I am excited and am also waiting for the Droid Prime, "not Nexus Prime". But, I just remember what disappointments the Nexus One and the Nexus S were. I remember all the hype surrounding the Nexus One which was the first phone to get Froyo, but the phone itself was very mediocre. Then, they released the Nexus S which was a step in the right direction. Still, it was not a great phone (which showed, because it failed to sell). I can't help to have a fair bit of skepticism regarding the Droid Prime. Sure, Samsung is making it. But they also made the dissapointing Nexus S. I have to wait for the leaked specs to make any long term commitment to wait for this phone. I may cave to the Droid Bionic, even though it's not nearly as customizable as what the Droid Prime will be, not to mention the vast differences in screen quality.

I understand your concern, but I don't think there much to worry on Droid Prime. Nexus S actually sold better than Nexus One because it was available as subsidized pricing on multiple carriers unlike Nexus One. If verizon got Nexus S, I am sure it would have done even better than Fascinate. When I played with Nexus S, it felt much smoother and fluid moving despite having essentially the same hardware as Fascinate. I think the major reason that held it back from greater success is not so competitive hardware (no dual core, no 4G, etc).

But Droid Prime would be different story. It will pack top notch hardware components at the time it launches as well as marketing push from Google, Samsung, Verizon. This never happened with previous Nexus phones.

Even if you "cave" to the Bionic, the advantage of doing so when Prime drops is a likely price reduction on Bionic. Not to mention that you'll have full awareness of the bugs... er, "undocumented features"... that Bionic was released with.

Not that Motorola EVER releases a phone with BUGS

The Nexus S did terribly, even when it was the first Gingerbread device. Doing better than the Nexus One is not much of an accomplishment. I disagree with your statement that it would have sold more than the Fascinate if it was on Verizon; it is essentially the same specs as the Fascinate, but cost more. It was released only 3 months after the Vibrant, but the Vibrant dominated the sales market. Google has not released sales data regarding their phones (I suspect because they are so low).

I do hope they release the specs soon. I would really like to have the feeling of knowing you have the newest tech. Europe and Asia have always gotten the newest phones well in advance of the US.

Well, if you looked at Fascinate forum late last year and early this year, there were a lot of upset Fascinate users about their too slow updates on Froyo. Nexus S launched with Gingerbread release and was always first in gingerbread updates and had 199 pricing on two years contract. However Fascinate was plagued with RFS files, old Touchwiz and Bing, not to mention slow updates. Plus it has pathetic 2Gb of internal memory vs 16Gb plenty on Nexus S. Many fascinate users here said they would jump onto Nexus S if verizon had it. Nexus S was only available on T-mobile for first several months, and that was holding it back on better sales.

They need to market the Nexus/Prime more aggresively. There is a general lack of advertising dollars that have went into the Nexus One but picked up somewhat with the Nexus S.

If Verizon gets behind it and spends some advertising dollars on it it can be a HUGE success. It's got the potential to be their hottest seller (Android) if they do it right.

That screen in and of itself will be A HUGE draw. People have not seen the likes of that yet. They are sitting on so much potential lets see what they do with it

Pentile matrix is one way of arranging sub pixels in display. It's less sharper than standard RGB matrix pixels at the same resolution. But it costs less and consumes less power. It's not necessarily bad thing if done right, and at HD resolution I don't think even sharpness would matter much.

I wouldn't say that site looks official, to say the least.

Now it seems you are just arguing for the sake of arguing. I guess you can speculate these "if this phone was on this carrier" scenarios to no end. All I have to say is look at the number of posts on this forum:

Nexus S = 7,097
Nexus S 4G = 2,767
Samsung Fascinate = 43,823
Samsung Vibrant = 21,146
Samsung Captivate = 63,723

Don't forget that all the Samsung phones listed are for only one carrier, while the Nexus S is for 3 carriers. Even with the Nexus S later release, I think these numbers speak for themselves. The Nexus S was a dismal failure. IMO, being released on Verizon wouldn't have made much of a difference.

There is no proof (only speculation) that Prime will have the latest and greatest components. I wouldn't be surprised if it came with a 1.2GHz processor (see what history has shown). Until there is leaked specs, I am not commiting to it. Hopefully, something will leak by the time the Bionic releases. I prefer Samsung phones over Moto because of the better display and easier rooting/flashing.

I agree that the reason the Nexus devices didn't sell well is because of lack of marketing.

No one I know (which are admittedly mostly Verizon or AT&T customers) even knows what a Nexus device is. To them, there are only 2 different kinds of phones: An iPhone and a Droid.

That tells you how smart Google is for releasing the Prime under the "Droid" moniker.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

This screen name belonged to a friend from "normal world" (works in the same company as me) who recently registered but is no longer going to be on the forums. I'm actually "the blue flame with the 4 numbers after it". My friend told me he is leaving (he says the forums are too addicting and didn't like the time he spent surfing), and I asked him if I could have his screen name because I thought it was the best one on here. He said no problem and gave me his password which I then changed, of course.

I was seriously thinking of changing my screen name because I've been getting somewhat harassed by someone (no one on these forums), and they've been tracking my screen name all over the internet (I use the same one for a lot of different things, including email). Anyway, not going to get into it too much, but I'll be posting as Han Solo from now on.

I hate to lose all the Thanks and Posts, but it's a necessary measure.

BTW, no, it's not an "old flame", ha ha. It's an old coworker who is a little nutso.

Sorry, guys, for the weirdness.

Edit: I changed the wording of my old screen name because I didn't want it to come up in a search and then be found by this person so that they'd know I changed it. Argh. It's so exhausting dealing with crazy idiots. Anyway guys, if replying to this post or in any other post, I'd appreciate it if you just refer to me by my new name. Thanks!!

Am I arguing for the sake of arguing? I never said Nexus S would have sold better than original SGS. I only said it would have done better if it was available on verizon when it launched. You failed to note that it was available on only T-mobile until early summer. How could it sell better than original SGS when it came several months later and only on T-mobile with poor marketing?

You can't say Droid prime wouldn't succeed just because of what happened with Nexus S. It's getting top notch spec of time unlike Nexus S. It's getting Droid branding/marketing from Verizon, which none of previous nexus got. Releasing phone only on t-mobile with lackluster marketing, limited availability is recipe for failure. And that's not the case for Droid Prime.

That's an interesting statement, CK. So if the Nexus Prime is Super AMOLED HD with the pentile arrangement, is that a deal breaker for you? Certainly at WVGA, it was a deal breaker for me. I hated it on the Incredible, and love the real stripe on the Charge. Was realling hoping the LITI process would be used for a future qHD/HD SA+ display, but with all this talk about squeaking more out of the shadow mask process, I guess not. I'm hoping, as Jinwons asserts, that it becomes a non-factor at HD. From what I've heard, pentile is still a handicap at qHD resolution.

I know it's a week old, but I hadn't seen this article posted:

Report: Verizon Targets Samsung Droid Prime at iPhone 5 | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

It speculates a Verizon launch as Droid Prime in October and as Nexus Prime on the other carriers later but in Q4. Also has some tidbits on ICS.

If you actually read my posts, you'll see that I never said the Droid Prime won't succeed because of the Nexus S. I said previous Nexus phones haven't been all that great, so I am not going to wait for the Nexus Prime on pure speculation. So, you are arguing a point I never made.

You are just nit picking on my words rather than getting my points though I admit my comment was somewhat confusion or misleading. I didn't mean it would have sold better than Fascinate. But it would have received well by power users on forums like this who got fed up with slow updates, laggy softwares on it. Also if Verizon released Nexus S instead of Fascinate in September last year, it could have sold better actually.

As for Droid Prime, three things are almost certain now, HD screen, 1.5Ghz OMAP4 processor and ICS from get go. That's not just speculation. Plus there will be serious marketing push from Google, Verizon.

Interesting... I wish they are right.
I don't care whether it's named as Nexus or Droid as long as it comes to verizon with those spec list (HD, 1.5ghz dual core, LTE, ICS, etc).

I am not nit picking your words, or taking your words out of context. I'm just pointing out how you contradict yourself:

If you didnt' mean it would have sold better than the Fascinate, then don't say it would. Plain and simple.

You are contradicting yourself again. "Almost certain" is speculation. The only thing that is confirmed is that it will be running ICS and it will be made my Samsung. Everything else is pure speculation.

Honestly I'm not interested in what happened with Nexus S as that's irrelevant to Droid Prime. It will be completely new beast with mind blowing spec, good marketing support dropping on Verizon.

We're just having a conversation (unintelligent as it may be). Sorry, if I offended you and your avatar. I find it amusing when people don't make any sense.

FYI, I may even wait for the Droid Prime. So, let's not "attack the dissenter".

Ok, well everywhere that I have looked so far it is said that ICS will run on OpenGL on the GPU, ,which is GREAT GREAT GREAT.

In the videos that I have also watched for ICS it was also said that it will be running on OpenGL on the GPU FULLY, meaning not in just some certain apps or times, BUT some phones will have the option to not use it, or activate it at certain times. (Sorry don't remember what it said about the last part very well)

This was not an accident of Apple's. But they apparently took to heart the awful feedback and publicity and are now reintroducing Final Cut Studio.

Pentile at WVGA would be a non-starter for me. At qHD I'd take a look in person but still doubt I'd want to live with it. But at HD I'm expecting the advantages finally to outweigh the disadvantages. Every technology has compromises, and I think Pentile finally wins at HD.
